scariest horror game ever?
personaly my opinion on this one must be silent hill 2...or system shock.
havent played silent hill 3 yet though...was it any good? |
I think the first Silent Hill was the scariest game ever. I just didn't know what to expect when playing it. Oh, and Clock Tower used to scare the hell out me when I was younger. Every time that little bastard would jump out of nowhere with those huge ass scissors gave me a heart attack.
|
What about Fatal Frame... one of the rare cases in which a game is based on true events: http://www.gamers.com/game/1076493
I never played it, but I did hear that it was based on actual events, although I can't find much information on that though for some reason... oh well... Also... "avenger00soul" has beaten "horror" for the most posts... I think there's gonna be some major rivalry going here! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! Instead of violence, how about a horror-off... where the two contestants duke it out in a one-on-one horror knowledge test... hrmm... *FADE OUT* |

i would have to agree with Silent Hill 2 being the scariest game i have played. you never knew when someone was going to scurry out from under a van or something
|
The only game I ever played that made me jump was the original Resident Evil. Those damn dogs!!!
|
i remember always throwing the controller 6 ft in to the air each time one of those zombie things came out from under a car!
when does the pc version of silent hill 3 get released? anyone got a clue? |
Silent Hill and SH2...fucking disturbing ass games.
Clockwork something was also very frightful Alone In The dark was very chilling to say the least |
Resident Evil:Code Veronica and Silent Hill 3 but u gotta have surround sound and all:)
|

Fatal Frame flipped me for a loop...scared the crap out of me..played it in full surround sound(LOUD) and in the dark. The duel shock controler killed me. Cant wait for Fatal Frame2 Crimson Butterfly to release in November...definate purchase for this gamer.:D
|
Oh my God, just remembered a great game i used to play in the commodore64 days:) Ghost's and goblins! Ever tried it? Really brings back memories!

I'M GONNA HAVE TO GO WITH SILENT HILL ON THIS ONE EVEN THOUGH WHEN ME AND MY COUSIN USED TO PLAY RESIDENT EVIL FOR ONE REASON OR ANOTHER WE'D BE SCARED OUTTA OUR HEADS.
|
Doom! I remember the first time I went into an area that had strobes flashing and hearing the imps but not being able to see them until they attacked from behind. Opening a door and hearing a Baron of Hell roar was pretty nerve wrecking too. Doom3 looks really good. I hear id software is making the Mars base a very unpleasant place to be!
|
It's a tie between the resident evil series and the silent hill series. Scary games!
|
friday the 13th .....man.... LOL
nahh I would have to say Silent Hill |
its pissing me off, iv been looking for silent hill (first part) for a long time now i just cant find a pal version, never played the first one.
|
Unoriginal...
DAMN...I pride myself on NOT being like everyone else but,...SILENT HILL is the scariest (in a haunting, sneaky, freaky, creepy, kind of way) game...EVER!!! YOU HAVE TO ADMIT IT!!!
|
hmmmmz
silent hill games, resident evil, especially the first 2, clive barkers undying is not THAT scary but pretty cool ow and alone in the dark, it's hard to play, but really dark, thats why it's called alone in the....DARK |

moonsorrow, i agree with you on that.. the scythe is still the best weapon! not to mention all the blood that comes out of it. |
Not really scary, but American McGee's Alice (haven't gotten very far, but it's not scary so far) and (forget who made it) Sanitarium will mess with your head, to say the least. Both very fun games, and must haves for any Horror/Creepy Video Game fans.
I played a little bit of Clive Barker's Undying and I am impressed so far. For any who are interested American McGee's Alice and Clive Barker's Undying are being sold as a double pack for only 10 bucks at most Wal-Marts. Very worth it! |
i'd have to say Silent Hill 1/2 and Resident Evil serie..
i heard about games called Phantasmagoria. it's like a movie but u r the hero.. anybody played it? |
They Hunger

ive never found any that were scary... just freaky and things that screw with your mind... one that i can think of that screwed with my mind the best i think is eternal darkness... walk in one room, when you go into the door you walk back into the same room you were in except its upside down :D... then there are the accidental suicides that are a hallucination, dying in some freakish way (turning into one of the monsters, falling through a hole that just opened up infront of you, etc. another hallucination aswell), the cutscenes are odd too, one of the guys turns completely psychotic and is in a solitary confinment chamber in a straight jacket... just to name a few things of course.
|
Realms of the Haunting > Everything you guys have said.
Shivers was like the Goosebumps of the horror computer games |
Realms of the Haunting? what was that for?
ive never heard of it till now. |
it was a PC game
http://www.realmsofthehaunting.com/ it was totally the shit. It was this huge 4-disc game. I would have gotten past the first disc had I not loaned it to someone who subsequently lost it and then moved. Bastard... |
Shivers, Sanitarim, Silent Hill, Fatal Frame. Can't choose. Shivers is the only game that can get me scared. The 7th Guest was the first horror game I ever played.
|
Clock tower was pretty fucked up...I liked that....
havent played the sequels... I had a dreamcast, and I remember a game (jap port) where you were some girl who got tickets to go to some "terrifying" theme park, you go in with friends, who dissapear, and you've gotta keep an eye on your "fear levels" or something....god it was confusing, but scary all the same, the name of the game was the same as the name of the "theme park" in it, I think....bloodlet or something....blood something, Im sure.....that's it, IllBleed! violent too! ghosts n goblins was pretty good, yeah, although I think it totally got out-done by the sequels, ghouls n ghosts, and super ghoulds n ghosts, pretty much diff versions of the same game, did u know the ps2 title "maximo" is meant to be like, the third game in the series....boy oh boy, it sure lost its feel, didnt it...? |
i heard clocktower was a good game for the most part, just as you said, screwed up... hmm, i heard form a few people i know that in the second the voice acting was awful, funny, but awful.

Clive Barker's Undying
http://image.com.com/gamespot/images...e_thumb022.jpg Scariest game I have ever played. Fun and beautiful to boot. Playing this late at night, home alone, tired. Oh god. It's not really the OMGMONSTERS kind of scary. The environment, the silent sound of howlers, and the omniscient shadow that seems to follow you that just sends chills up your spine and makes you want to close your eyes. I love this game. Scyre mode is also freaky, it's a spell that allows you to peer into the world of the undead. You see some freaky shit with that thing. Aliens vs Predator 2 http://image.com.com/gamespot/images...2_thumb017.jpg This is the kind of game that will give you a heartattack. Especially human campaign, or multiplayer as a human. I'm always an alien, so I'm the guy speeding around stopping players' hearts. Tis major fun. Blood http://image.com.com/gamespot/images...d_thumb001.jpg My favourite BUILD game of all time. It's more fun and hilarious than scary, but there are many parts, especially the haunted house level, where I got the shit scared out of me. Closets stuffed with grim reapers that litterally SCREAM in your FACE. Playing this game on my TV, late at night, made it all better. The room was black, when a fucking red eyed ghost scares the shit out of me and the room just lights up red because I got hit... I almost died I swear. Fun times. Quote:

I thought I was the only person in the world that had played Shivers. I don't remember being particularly scared at any point in the game but I do remember running a cheese-grater over my eyballs in frustration at the puzzles. Chinese checkers anyone? I was only 12 at the time but from what I recall, it was an excellent game.
The soundtrack was also very good and I've spent many fruitless hours trying to find the damn thing online. If anybody could shine some light in my direction -- not the cheeseball sampler gimmick that came with Shivers 2 please -- I would be VERY grateful. I'm playing scary games more than I watch scary movies these days and the current, and most likely all-time champion, is the original Silent Hill. I love the series and everything it's done but as far as pure terror is concerned, the first is the best. The fear of blood tends to create fear for the flesh... |
The first Silent Hill
I played it before I got into horror and it scared the hell out of me! I just remember walking around in a school and those creature things jumping out with the *SCREECH SCREECH SCREECH* sounds they made. |
What th fuck were thos lil ghost babies? I only had the game on hire, and hadda return it the next day, so I never made it beyond the "piano" scene, I think I just said "fuck it" as soon as I saw it....but those ghost baby thingz, what was with them?
|
I don't know why Shivers scares me, but yesterday I was playing Silent Hill 3 and I came across this one part where a dog is barking at you and I thought it was one of the monsters. Turns out it was just a scary effect.
|
The little ghosts that you refer to are called "Stalkers" and they are impervious to any damage. Their purpose is to - while unnerving the player - cause you to waste unnecessary ammo. If you use the aglophotus (red liquid found in the hospital after meeting Dr. Kaufman) on them in the Lakeside Amusement Park, you can trigger a glitch that allows you to bypass the fight with Cybil and the cut-scene involving Dahlia and Alessa.
In a way you are correct Swiftdeath; the sound effect that they used for te Stalkers is that of a small dog barking. |
I'd have to say the remake or Resident Evil one for the Gamecube
