New Nightmare

I just bought the DVD of Wes Craven's New Nightmare. Because it was on sale :D

I've never seen it or heard anything about it other than when I saw the preview on my NOES1 VHS. Did you guys like it or hate it?

wufongtan 06-12-2004 06:31 PM

It's ok. i can't really remember it, all i do remember was seeing it when it first came out and i remember liking it.

-->oscam5<-- 06-13-2004 12:58 AM

Its amazingly good.
Wes put a fantastic spin on the character when he had degenerated into a freakin' stand-up comedian.
Awesomeness and sideshow toys have just put out pics and stuff for the Nightmare Freddy 12". Trenchcoat and all.

cheebacheeba 06-13-2004 04:12 AM

I dunno about AMAZINGLY good, but I remember when I saw it, I thought it was waaay better than the last few before it, I hold it in about equal regard to Freddys Dead, I liked the exploration of new ideas used in both.
A break from the comedy was good, yeah...he seemed a lot more "NOES 1" than in any of the others.

-->oscam5<-- 06-13-2004 05:20 AM

Yeah It was definatly a breath of fresh air for the series.

massacre man 06-13-2004 07:38 AM

its awesome

orangestar 06-13-2004 03:06 PM

I just got done watching it and I thought it was amazing. It brought a whole new side to Freddy and scared the bajeesus out of me. I thought I would miss all the Freddy One-liners, but taking the humor out made him that much scarier. Im so glad I bought it.

thEsounDofdirT 06-13-2004 03:11 PM

i did like the dark side of freddy in this movie... however, it made him a much less personal killer... he was more like a legendary force... some complaints i had on the movie were with freddy's actual makeup/effects design.. the glove was a little too different... and his makeup was tooooo... umm... clean... know what i mean?...
also.. from a sound production, you could tell they were rushed with some of the sound design because during the quakes and stuff... they used the same dish/pot breaking sound for almost everything that fell...

othe rthan that, i thought it was way better than freddy's dead

and about it being the closest to the original nightmare

nightmare 2 was pretty dark for freddy.. i'm thinking darker than the original...

however, jesse was a bit too fucking gay... :)

you just went up in the coolness rank of my book orange ;)

also... i think you should save up your money.. and just buy the box set.. give the seperate movies you already have to friends..

evil_blonde 06-13-2004 11:30 PM

sounds like a good movie, i think i have heard of it, johnny depp? sorry i just thought so...oh well :p

thEsounDofdirT 06-14-2004 12:10 AM

umm.. johnny depp is in the original nightmare on elm st...

lol

Distorty 06-14-2004 01:29 AM

I agree with the comment about the boxset, its def worth picking up, its made just for the fans, and totally worth the money, As for a new nightmare i really enjoyed it, i think wes injected alot into the series, the only thing is the idea of the whole film so damn good i think if they sat down and worked on the story line a bit more it could have been better.

Vodstok 06-14-2004 03:51 AM

I didnt care for new nightmare..... Its a very cool premise, but i have found that Freddy just doesnt do it for me the way he does for others. I also thought some of the special effects were laughable.

For the record, I happen to be a HUGE fan of the movie Virtuosity, so that should help you feel al ittle better if i complain about freddy, seeing as how the average movie fan will assume i am retarded based on that statement.

But it still didnt care for it.

cheebacheeba 06-14-2004 04:58 AM

I didn't mind virtuosity either...'cept for that redneck asshole russell crowe, but at least he got his ass kicked outta existence in the end...
Did you ever see Ricochet?
And Dirt, Depp was also in Freddys Dead...

Vodstok 06-14-2004 05:05 AM

There was a SNL sketch where one of the guys from "will and Grace" was pretending to be the kid from Billy Elliot. He was bitching about not gettin an Oscar, and he referred to Russel Crowe as a "Fat Kiwi". Many people laughed.

Depp was in New Nightmare? I dont recall...

Vodstok 06-14-2004 05:08 AM

edit: Never mind, I should read before i post.....

KRUGERKID13 06-14-2004 01:18 PM

i really enjoyed it. It was nice to have a sequal that actually added to a story instead of trying to make jokes.

Its also my 3rd fav. in the series

Vampenguin 06-14-2004 04:49 PM

I wanna rent it, if it lives up to itz premise,It could easily be the best in the series.

KRUGERKID13 06-14-2004 11:56 PM

its definetly worth a watch even if your not a big fan of the series it still has a great story

thEsounDofdirT 06-15-2004 09:21 AM

yes he is...

but i'm replying to the person that was talking about watching this for johnny depp

didn't johnny depp really have a "this is your brain on drugs" commercial though?

Sick_As_Fuck 06-15-2004 09:44 AM

It's pretty good.Doesn't fit the rest of the series though obviously.

thEsounDofdirT 06-15-2004 10:21 AM

i kind of like the way it describes the rest of the series... you know.. just stories told to keep that force alive... and the stories held him at bay.. wes is all about that kind of stuff.. :)

Threl kaar 06-17-2004 12:33 AM

I thought it was really good but i will say that i thought the new claw wasnt as cool as the old one.

NOES1? What movie is that? Nightmare On Elm Street 1 isnt a movie, idiot. Theres a "Nightmare On Elm Street", but no "Nightmare On Elm Street 1", dumbass. And a preview on the NOES video? What the hell? Wes Craven's New Nightmare wasnt even made back then, whats it doing on a preview in that movie? Anyway, I hated the new glove. I mean, don't get me wrong, it was alright, but his home-made glove was much cooler.

dude... back when they made the box set for a nightmare on elm st., they made seperate dvds that were red and could be bought seperately... they made VHS with the same covers... these tapes were not the original VHS copies so they had previews for other movies on them that were made after them... i had nightmare 4 like this and it had a special thing at the end of the tape talking about the director and special effects and stuff...

also, if she didn't put NOES1... and just put NOES.... people would be asking ... oh... WHICH ONE???!!!

it's a lose lose situation :)

no reason to be mean :D

I have to agree with you on your analogy of this one. The only thing I can think of for the changes was they called it "New" for a reason

crytel 06-19-2004 12:08 AM

i liked that movie a lot, actually. i didn't like his new claw, though. :p

allmykids 06-20-2004 09:14 AM

I liked it, Thought it was different. had a nice twist.

the shape 2004 06-22-2004 03:40 AM

the new nightmare was a dark and disturbing movie.
i loved the glove, its like the emerging of 2 worlds:
the dream claw and mortal flesh.
it was good for the series to come back strong after"death"
when do come back from death they seem to do your favorite
death scennes over.
the whole"i'm being clawed on the ceiling but you can'tsee
the killer" from elm street 1 is in this one.
its a must have for those that haven't seen it.

Vodstok 06-22-2004 04:10 AM

I thought it was very clever, but i still didnt care for it.

thEsounDofdirT 06-22-2004 02:48 PM

you know.. i watched this a couple more times recently... and i really despise the way it sort of closed the door for any new sequels to be made for the series

jay o2 waster 06-22-2004 05:04 PM

its ok
