Best board game. . . ?
Hi all,
Thinking of buying a horror board game (possibly with a Walking Dead theme), can anyone please tell me what a good starter game would be for 2 adults and 1-2 children old enough for zombies, vampires, etc . . ? Thanks, Paul. |
Do you have a VCR still?

Arkham Horror. Probably the best horror board game out there.
https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/e...arkham-horror/ Really great for a family because you work together to stop the old one from awakening. |

I have a hard time with current horror board games, most are just rehashes of not horror board games and it bleeds through. I was going to suggest finding Nightmare. It was a VHS horror board game. The tape was 60 minutes and if nobody won in that time the Gatekeeper would win and everyone would lose. There is a DVD version of it out there called Atmosfear: The Gatekeeper. Its a fun game to play in a dark room with the sound cranked up on the TV and its interactive. The gatekeeper will pop up out of nowhere and make you do things. |

Arkham Horror has kinda been replaced by Eldritch Horror which is a bit easier to get into and more streamlined, both are solid horror board games though. They might not be the best for kids to pick up though, depending on age, but they can still have fun if you are helping them through, since its a co-op game and all about team work. Mansions of Madness is great too and would work well with a family with one person playing the 'bad guy'. Same with Betrayal at Hell House.
In terms of zombie board games, probably Dead of Winter and Last Night on Earth are about the most popular choices out there. I think Zombiecide is a bit more rpg based zombie survival but haven't played it. |
Zombies!!! is a decent quick game that's fairly simple. Its not exciting or what have you, but it might be for kids.

Check out Betrayal at House on the Hill. I played it with some friends and it was a blast, a little complicated at first but once you get it things can get crazy fast. It leaves an impression, I remember one guy becoming the betrayer and we had to race to try and get the spirit's bones and bury them before he could summon it. He ended up summoning the ghost but we were able to exorcise the spirit before he could gain control. It was tense at the end for sure...
Oh yeah, Wil Wheaton played it on his Table Top show. |
Thanks for the feedback
Just a quick thanks to everyone that offered feedback regarding the board game. We eventually played it safe and opted for The Walking Dead (TV) board game. May save up and try either Arkham Horror, or, AvP Survival next!
