i saw this too, i think they were gonna give him the film before they green lit prometheus, cant see it ever happening now.

I'm sure whatever movie studio holds the right to the Alien franchise will do something new with it at some point. No matter how Prometheus 2 will do.
Ridley Scott is getting old and in this day and age of remakes, reboots, prequels, sequels,... it would really surprise me if they don't pick up the Alien franchise once again.

So as far as unmade movies with scripts goes, this ranks somewhere above Tim Burton's Superman Lives (with Nic Cage!) and someplace below Orson Welles' Heart of Darkness....

This idea had potential - I can see a plotline about Weyland-Yutani being more involved, a corporate politics/bioweapons angle, the derelict spaceship from LV-426 (with the eggs) lifted into a giant storehouse, it's contents (read eggs) emptied, and Ripley disguised as a space jockey, probably sent to the Alien/Space Jockey homeworld under disguise, with Hicks and a new, better, stronger, larger Marines team accompanying her. (Newt is probably held by the corporate honchos, hence blackmailing Ripley into this new mission)

Sounds good to me. Just love to see someone serious extend the series, like Scott, Cameron, Wachowski Bros, Joss Whedon, maybe Singer.

Nah they need to leave Ripley alone. Her story was finished in a good way with Aliens. This feels like a Superman Returns type redo. And that ship in theory should be destroyed. If not that even alters the original Aliens story.

Huh? Where in the Alien movies did they destroy the horseshoe spaceship? I don't remember. I know in Aliens the corp tells Ripley they setup a human colony on that wasteland of a planet. I think they were terraforming it too? But I don't remember them saying anything like, 'ya, we found the horseshoe ship and destroyed it.' I think they told Ripley they didn't find anything she wrote about in her logs. But it's been a long time since I've seen Aliens; I might be forgetting plenty.

It's been a while since I've seen it too. They didn't show the ship destroyed in Aliens. But you can kind of assume that the explosion might have destroyed the spaceship. Or that something was going on researching and removing the eggs from the ship since they did have multiple facehuggers at the colony. Also that Ripley would be competent enough to say we need to nuke that ship before we leave to make sure. We can assume for the most part that they didn't remove the ship in Aliens during the time of Newt's family and Ripley's journey because they had to go check things out with the Space Marines. Why would they check things out if they had the ship and knew the contents?

The explosion at the end of Aliens was said to be huge, and we'd have to assume the horseshoe ship was close to the colonists to infect them, so it'd probably would be destroyed. But the ship may have been a good distance, and the colonist had been exploring and brought an alien back with them. It's possible the ship could be intact, just not likely.

Both Alien and Aliens were well thought movies. Not so much any of the sequels. They could always say there were different divisions of the corporation since it's so big. One part didn't know what the other was doing. But it's safe to assume that Burke knew about what was going on there. He did send Newt's family to take a look.

I think the colonist's experiments got out of hand. Maybe a loose facehugger or baby Alien. I don't imagine the facehuggers making the trip to the colony outside of the eggs. But the Aliens do going by Newt telling Ripley that they come out at night. I would guess that if the colonists didn't remove all the eggs or destroy them in testing that the Aliens removed them from that ship. They were "busy little creatures" after all.

And still with the ending of Aliens, they would have to make Ripley incompetent not to nuke that ship just to be sure. It was damaged in the original Alien and I doubt it could take the sort of blast that happened at the end of Aliens.

Ah I got ya, right, at the end of Aliens, Ripley had command of the Marine destroyer, and she would have sought out the horseshoe ship and nuked it.

It is interesting, the Co had something to do with the colonists being there -- which is weird, like going back to the days of the East Indian Tea Company.

Anyway, we know the colonist were experimenting on the Alien facehuggers. But if we take Alien/Aliens at face value, the Co only knew the Nostomo went missing, & they didn't find Ripley's escape pod for 57 yrs, and planet was colonized 20 yrs before Ripley was found. Burke sent the colonists to the ship after he heard Ripley's story.

If the Co knew about the alien before the Nostromo launched, or received transmissions from Ash or Ripley before Nostromo was destroyed, the colony appeared to have little alien research progress to show for 20 yrs. Plus, if the Co knew about the alien, as a fact, & as the chief reason to go to LV426, why wait 27 yrs before sending 'colonists' with children?

Of course Ash had orders to bring back alien life form, crew expendable, but that may have been standing orders.

The explosion was local and destroyed the base and its surroundings. Don't remember seeing the ship in Aliens so if it was out of sight, there might have been enough distance between the ship and the base to withstand the blast.

The ship was discovered after the humans were done terraforming and building the base. Propbably small groups went out to check the rest of the planet, found the ship, couple of people got facehugged, brought back to the base and the shit starts. After that they experimented on facehuggers.

Ripley leaving happened quite fast. And after that she had to deal with the queen. So there already could've been some distance between them and the planet so too far to nuke? Can't remember if they said the ship carries nukes.
We could also say for the sake of unofficial sequel, that you need launch codes. Because the company doesn't want unauthorised destruction of things they might have a use for. Like a huge alien spaceship.

Now someone make this sequel!

We can tell you didn't read ImmortalSlasher & my last posts ::wink::. I basically wrote the same things you did, and then ImmortalSlasher revealed most of the answers to our like-reasonings.

The colonists didn't find the old horseshoe-shaped alien ship on accident by exploring.

In Aliens, Ripley told Burke she found Burke's directive to the colonist to go to the horseshoe-shaped alien ship, & that Burke didn't warn the colonists about the alien creature that wiped out Ripley's crew. If you remember, Ripley told Burke she was going to expose him, that's why he locked specifically Ripley in the room with the facehuggers. This Burke-directive was after he heard Ripley's story at Ripley's company hearing on the destruction of the Nostomo.

You reasoned Ripley in the Marine ship was too far away from the planet, or the Marine ship didn't have nukes. But in Aliens, after most of the marines get wiped out in the first alien encounter, Ripley says, "I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure", they weren't talking about the station overload, cause that hadn't happened yet. I suggest we can assume she was talking about a military weapon aboard the Marine ship.

Plus, I think we can assume, based on Ripley's intelligence & resolve, that after they escaped the station blast, that Ripley would go back & destroy the alien ship. But it is true, the film didn't mention that.

English isn't my first language so I probably missed or misread a couple of things.

I agree now on the discovery of the ship.

Still not sure on the nuking part.
-Who knows what condition the ship was in when they left with it. Did it have enough fuel to go there? And back? Sure Ripley wouldn't mind going on a suicide mission. But not now that she has a kid to take care off.
-After a nuclear blast is the atmosphere safe for the ship to get close enough especially with the crazy weather over there.
-If the alien ship wasn't that far from the site, maybe Ripley assumed it would get destroyed too. But it didn't because it's made out of Engineer steel or something http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/e...n-emoticon.gif

Very true. There's plenty of scenarios when the ship still exists. Although, in the year 3020, they probably have a tactical nuke guided missile they could fire from a long distance.

The nuke operating system got damaged by the electrical storm prior to the blast. Or the queen damaged it somehow when she got on the ship.

I'm going to watch these again soon. But I think it's safe to say that the ship isn't that far away. I'm going by the Aliens Director's Cut. Remember Newt's family drives to the ship. I doubt they would take children out that far away from the colony. Perhaps an hour or so out.

Also Ripley's goal in going was to wipe them out not bring them back. That's the only reason she agreed to go. And in the original Alien, she's the one that realizes that the message from the ship isn't an SOS message but a warning. She would be sure that no one runs into the Aliens again.

I like to believe that that crashed Alien ship is the only one. Before Prometheus that was my thought.

Searching around the Internet, apparently a lot of people have the same questions. Mostly coming from the bad sequels and videogames. I think the approach to take is similar to the newer Star Wars movies. These sequels, video games, etc. are made as product. Most of the time without the same care as the originals.

But I am rethinking the distance to that ship from the colony, I watched the cut scene on youtube and it seems like the guy sent Newt's family and others out and they were gone for a week? The truck isn't a small thing either.

Still I believe in Ripley's competence. For example, if someone knows that bugs are a house and they originated in the basement but they spray outside and around the house and remove some bushes. The basement is still intact. I think Ripley knew where the ship was in relation to the colony. She knew that the resulting explosion would be enough to destroy the colony and ship.

Damn. I guess he changed his mind. I hope they don't use some of those previous designs. I stick by thinking that the Alien and Aliens stories should be left alone. Every movie and videogame since has only made things worse.

Don't get me wrong, I understand your reasons.
It's why I've only seen Terminator 1 and 2. I don't want to ruin my good memories of those movies by watching inferior sequels and/or spin-offs.
But I can't wait to see this movie.

I'll probably check it out just to see unless I hear that the premise is really bad. You're lucky you can pass on movies. Those Terminator sequels are poor. I don't remember why I watched part 3. Maybe the action or the female terminator. But it is a terrible Terminator movie. Part 4 is just as forgettable. I'll probably check out the new one but I know it won't be as good as T1 and T2.

The good thing is when movies are so bad they are easily forgotten. I don't even remember Alien 3 and 4. I only recall a few scenes from those Alien vs Predator movies. I didn't like District 9 that much and don't remember it either!
