Famous Freaks
A thing that makes me feel sad deep down inside my heart is seeing freaks. Famous freaks like the Elephant man and The Donkey Man always have their sad history. They were always having peanuts thrown at them in carnivals all because they were different, they didn't have a choice on how they would look when they were born. Freaks give you the feeling that your the freak and they are the human. One thing to remember they not freaks they are human beings.
They can do many things that we normal human cant do such as tricks, and magic. I dedicate this thread to those special beings. |
consider those who are stared at in todays society, the hugely over weight, the very very very tall, and the rediculously short.
|
Those who are over weight did that to themselves. Sorry but its true. :[

Freaks? Shoot...Ya wanna see some freaks? All ya gotta do is sit in the parkin' lot at the convenience store on the west end of the county fer 'bout 20mins or so....scary lookin' backwoods country folk, hillbillies, and mountain people...for reals! Either that or just go to the county fair at night.::EEK!::
|
Freaks, just go to McDonald's,you will see thousands of them.
As for the over weight, what crap. They did this to themselves and saying it is a disease is just another way to justify their fat disgusting habits. |

The problem with society is that so many people have become extremely judgmental of other people. We all are probably guilty of doing it at least once. I have done it and I feel horrible about it.
It's true, some people do have health problems that prevent them from losing weight, myself included. I HATE it when people give me shit about my weight when they don't know a damn thing about me!! If people are happy, let them be. Most of the time, what they are doing doesn't even effect you! People need to spend more time focusing on their own lives and spending less time worrying about what other people do!! |

Still, on a lighter and completely inappropriate note, this reminds me of a classic line my mom said, "Nobody came out of the concentration camps fat." http://forums.civfanatics.com/images/smilies/nope.gif http://forums.civfanatics.com/images/smilies/scared.gif http://forums.civfanatics.com/images/smilies/yup.gif |
ENOUGH! I made this thread about freaks not the overweight!
Okay now that I have settled down let's talk about freaks. The monsters that you see at the end of th movie sentinel are actual freaks. The swollen faced guy that jumps out at the women that being chased by that dead guy is the Donkey Man, later on you see the crocodile people. The movie The Elephant Man is a true story. He had a desiese that made his heads big and bloated. He could not sleep on his back he had to sleep sitting up. If he slept on his back he would brake his neck, he was also often abused by his owner at the fair until a kind doctor helped him. The Elephant Mans original name was John mereck. The movie made about him is sad especially when he says the words " I am not an animal I am a man! Once more enough about the overweight! |
The only people that elicit slack-jawed stares, laughs, and ridicule in my parts are the extremely obese, those that ride about in rascal scooters, etc.
Society's emphasis on heath and body image has made us hyper-sensitive to those whose appearance, in Victorian times, would signal luxury and wealth. |
Oops
Sorry, didn't read the thread before posting. Maybe the topic inevitably lends itself to a discussion about the disease of obesity (or vice of gluttony, as some in this thread might call it).

The door was opened partially from a comment you made!! We could ask, why are there labels at all? Who started calling anyone "freaks"? They are human right? So, why can't they be referred to as people with disfigured faces and bodies instead of "freaks"? I have always felt a sense of sadness when I see anyone who has any kind of problem with their face, body, or mind that is off balance. Quote:

I agree with others though, thinking about people with deformities make me sad. It would be a hard life. On a related note, what if the evil twin from Basket Case was real. |
Some of you must really dislike this guy.

Christ did this thread take off......on BOTH topics, I have been diabetic since 10 and had thyroid removed due to cancer at 25, luckily I am not overweight but it doesn't come without diet and exercise.. However, being obese or overweight has a lot to do with genes, thyroid levels and yes, sometimes food intake. I know plenty of thick beautiful people and those who can't gain weight no matter what.
As to the actual thread, I'm partial to Mat Fraser aka seal boy from AHS. He has embraced his "handicap" and turned it into art. love it. We all have a "freak" in us whether it be physical, emotional, mental etc. Sometimes it's by choice, sometimes we're born with it. Those who have opinions about over or underweight people being "their choice" need to stop and realize they don't know the whole story. I recently overheard some women who consider themselves "preachers for Christianity" say that if you or child were born or develop health or physical abnormalities have been touched by Satan....true story. Clearly with my health issues I was pissed but these idiots also compared Halloween to the KKK so idk, to me they were the biggest freaks of them all ::stick out tongue:: |
Now that's some scary stuff! It's hard for me to believe people still think that way. A few years ago medical marijuana was legalized here in MT. (I still can't believe it!)and there was a documentary on PBS about a group of people tryin' to get the law repealed. One guy was on there sayin' that smoking pot opened you up to demonic influences.....WOW!.....

You probably already know this, but for the record, the 'women preachers for Christianity' you mention don't appear to know the words of Christ very well. Jesus was asked why deformities exist, & he answered the question, and it wasn't what those preacher women said. What a surprise, right? |

By the way I apologize to everyone about that one post about the overweight. That was really rude of me and it was mostly my fault that everyone started posted about the overweight. What ever made post that I do not know .::sad:: |

back to freaks Frank Lentini, the three legged man was so rad-used to preform in sideshows kicking a soccer ball with his third leg or jumping rope. |
Here's a freak for you, Dave Mustang.
Okay back on the actual subject of the thread. One of favorite freaks is the catapiller man the man with no arms and no legs. He was so cool he could light a match and cigarete with his mouth. |

I'm fascinated with people who have no arms and legs and they do amazing things. Many of them live life in what we consider to be a "normal" life style. I applaud them cause I wouldn't be able to handle that so well if it was me. |
Me too.

I remember famous freak called half boy. He once did a magic act with his twin brother. They would do the sawing in half trick because half boy had no legs.
|
I have heard of many different stories through the years but not that one. Sounds intriguing.
|
How can that not be intriguing!? ::shocked::
