There are always movies that are overlooked so I think it would be nice if we could create a list.
Let's try to stick to the ones that rank from
Worth watching if you got nothing better to do.
to
You gotta see this movie!

I've posted the ones I can think of below.
Maybe later on HDC could make a compilation from all posts?
Or else I don't mind doing it.

Damn Heathen 09-15-2014 02:31 AM

Whoever compiles this list has their work cut out for them (hey, at least it's not a list of supernatural movies). I alone could rattle off about 300 titles.

Bad Milo! -- Not only is it funny, it's a great movie.

Terror Tract -- The second story in this anthology has Bryan Cranston in a riotous battle of wits with Bobo the monkey.

Born -- Lower-middle tier, but has some unforgettably funny scenes, one of which shows a demon fetus flippin' someone the bird via ultrasound.

Baron, how could we forget the Ghoulies franchise?

Damn Heathen 09-15-2014 11:25 AM

There are also a ton of good to great comedic horror shorts and tv eps.

Comparable to Critters, though I like the cut of their jib a bit better.

Damn Heathen 09-15-2014 07:45 PM

Ghoulies, at least the first one, is worthy. How about some HCs about families or relatives? PARENTS, FATHER'S DAY, and SERIAL MOM are all eminently watchable.

Notes:
*I didn't add any Jason, Freddy or Chucky movies because they're all too well known and they all have their funny moments.

*Did include some dark comedies.

*Need some info on the ...Of The Dead movies. Dawn, Return, Night,...
Which are the silly ones and which are not.
The only more serious one I remember is Dawn Of The Dead from 2004.

*Got any remarks? Do mention them.

Yup.

Return of the Living Dead are the silly ones.

Ghost Team One

I've brought it up here before - It's stupid, juvenile, and an absolute blast.

Damn Heathen 09-16-2014 07:35 PM

OP, you haven't seen ROTLD yet? Stop compiling and start watching! ::big grin::

More HCs:

the Munsters movies
the Addams Family movies
Mockingbird Lane (the new Munsters pilot movie)
Dead Heat
The Uninvited
The Monster Squad
The Pumpkin Karver
Braindead (not the Dead Alive Braindead)

JC, there are so many!

Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein
Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man
Abbott and Costello Meet the Killer Boris Karloff
Hold That Ghost
Old Mother Riley Meets the Vampire
The Comedy of Terrors
The Raven
Little Shop of Horrors
Rocky Horror Picture Show
(or is this list limited to films from the past 35 years?)

And hello?? GHOSTBUSTERS???

Damn Heathen 09-17-2014 12:32 AM

House I, II, IV
Bordello of Blood
Demon Knight
Dead End
Student Bodies
Rare Exports
Black Christmas remake
The Boy Who Cried Werewolf [2010]
Undead
Freaked

I must say that, although many think DOGHOUSE is over the top, I find the histrionic crazies pitch-perfect.

Straker 09-17-2014 03:21 AM

A few that haven't been mentioned yet;

A Bucket of Blood
Bubba Ho-Tep
The 'Burbs
Mr. Vampire
Close Encounters of the Spooky Kind
Elvira, Mistress of the Dark
Tremors
American Psycho

One final bloodbath would have been nice, but I enjoyed the comedic self-defeatist ending.

Damn Heathen 09-17-2014 09:55 PM

And the list goes on...

A Cadaver Christmas
Alfie The Little Werewolf
Once Bitten
Vampire's Kiss
Teen Wolf
Scream
Burke and Hare
An American Werewolf in London
Trick 'r Treat
Stitches
Rubber
The Halloween That Almost Wasn't
The Midnight Hour

Baron Von Marlon 09-18-2014 10:51 AM

Question below + updated list at the bottom.

How do your prefer movies starting with 'The' to be alphabetised?

Example:
The Addams Family - T
or
Addams Family, The - A

I'm having doubts about these. I consider them serious horror.
They might have funny bits but I don't think they're funny movies.
But they're not horrifying to the more-than-average horror fan so I get your point.

It's subtle humor. Like in Evil Dead 2.

I would say both movies qualify as horror/comedy.

hammerfan 09-18-2014 12:42 PM

How about The Ghost and Mr. Chicken?

Angra 09-18-2014 12:43 PM

Speaking of subtle humor.

The Cabin in the Woods.

-Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat (don't remember if it's good, do remember it wasn't serious).
-Attack The Block

I think the key to a horror-comedy is not the ratio of horror to comedy but whether comedy is present in the film's most horrific moments or with its most horrific characters. The curious thing about HCs is that the comic relief concept doesn't typically apply due to the overall high comedic value.

neverending 09-18-2014 08:19 PM

I wouldn't qualify Attack the Block as a comedy at all. I don't think the fact one or more characters crack jokes occasionally makes a movie a comedy. If that were true, 95% of all movies would be comedies.

I think a ratio of comedy needs to assessed. I disagree with a lot of the films on this list- like Ded Sno. Only seen it once, and loved it, but don't remember being particularly amused by it.

I laughed like hell at the cat attack scene in Let the Right One In, but I wouldn't call the movie a comedy.

For me it's more about the tone than about the ratio.
If characters keep making jokes during a dangerous situation I have trouble taking the movie serious. Or when the characters themselves are too silly.
Or the creatures. Or an event.
Sometimes one scene can change or even define the tone of a movie.
Dead Snow for example.
It's pretty over-the-top and then a guy gets bitten in his groin.
So to me that movie is amusing.
And it are amusing movies I would like to see on the list.
So maybe a HDC list and a non-HDC list?

Angra 09-18-2014 09:01 PM

In conclusion, you have a weird sense of humor. ::big grin:: ::stick out tongue::

About attack the block. Nick Frost is in it, that's what makes it a comedy. Not that I find him very funny myself, but without his character in it i'm sure it would've been just a horror movie. Personally, I found the movie annoying as hell and wanted everybody in it dead. Maybe except for the aliens.

What about Murder By Death, would you categorize that one as "horror"?

And what about Haunted Honeymoon?

Murder By Death - a film I saw six times in seven days IN THE THEATRE - is in no way a horror film. It's a mystery/comedy. It's a direct parody of specific film detectives.

I don't think I've seen Haunted Honeymoon, so I can't say. Is there supernatural content?

I saw Murder By Death for the first time when I was about 8 years old and I remeber the ending scaring the crap outa me. Hahaha. Still one of my favorite comedies. I was just in doubt as the scenery was pretty spooky.

Haunted Honeymoon might be more horror due to some "supernatural" elementents, but it's still very much pure comedy in my eyes. Give it a watch. ::wink::
