The scariest experience as a result of watching a movie, for me was Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978), which kept me up terrified all night with nightmares. I actually don't think I slept more than an hour I was so scared. I was probably about 8 years old.
The Shining had the same effect, but I remember Body Snatchers being worse. I don't remember which I saw first, probably Body Snatchers. I was always afraid to watch the Exorcist, even as an adult. I didn't finally watch it until about age 25, and it was as scary as I expected it to be. |
Love
Evil Dead, gotta see LizardFace, n has any one else seen Teeth? (Course u have - but isnt it a movie u just cant look away from??)

Same here. For some reason, my parents let me watch the original NOES not long after it came out. My dad was in a videotape trading club at work, and he brought it home. I was probably around 6 or 7 years old.
I didn't sleep for a few nights, until my mom got up in the middle of the night and I was playing in the living room in the middle of the night. I still get nervous watching The Exorcist. |
I thought The Tunnel was pretty scary. It has a really claustrophobic atmosphere, and it was really intense. I'm looking forward to As Above, So Below.
|
The movie "Ghost Story" scared me more than any other movie I've seen.
I was a kid and had strep throat when I saw it. |
The Exorcist didn't bother me till I saw it on the big screen when it was re-released. Amazingly creepy sound. I'd love to see it in the theater again sometime.
In recent years Paranormal Activity creeped me out... the sequels didn't do much for me however. I watched Nightmare on Elm Street 4 as a kid and while it didn't scare me while watching it I had a few sleepless nights afterward. |
Salems Lot (1979)
|
It will always be The Exorcist for me. Saw it in the theater when it was released. I was about 13. Slept with the light on for weeks. Kept waiting for my bed to start shaking. LOL
To this day, I can't watch it. Scares the crap out of me. |
The part that makes me cringe every time in the part where they're drawing blood from her. I'm not afraid of needles or blood until it comes to your neck ._.

When I was about 6 years old my brother let me watch "Rawhead Rex" and that gave me nightmares for a week. I watched it again sometime in my 20's and the effect was not the same...lol.
I haven't really had many movies really "scare" me. Certain atmosphere's are creepy but it's not really "scary" per say. Sinister was a more recent one that I found creepy. The story not so much, just the atmosphere. Jump scenes if they are well done will make me jump, but they don't "scare" me. Brutal scenes like seeing someones leg snap, just make me think "ouch". |

I figured I'd make a list of some scenes from movies that really make me cringe or scared (because the movies themselves aren't very scary, but I wanted to give them credit):
hobbling scene from Misery torture scene from Audition brain eating scene from Hannibal chestburster scene from Alien c-section from Prometheus grave scene from Carrie Kirsty opening the puzzle box from Hellraiser Michael Myers with the sheet over himself from Halloween night 30 from Paranormal Activity Sloth scene from Se7en decapitation scene from High Tension ending of The Blair Witch Project |
The Evil Dead and The Shining both got me at an early age on VHS.
At the theater, it was probably... Quote:

Now it's The Descent. The video in my signature can explain why.

Scariest movie I've ever seen? It's still the original Halloween. It still creeps me out and puts me on edge every single time. |
I expect to be bullied for this one ::big grin:: But I was "traumatized" by "It Came From Outer Space", which I was forced to watch at around 4 years old. I've had nightmares about it all my life!
I have re-watched it a few times as an adult, but every time I am absolutely terrified ::big grin:: |

American werewolf in london, by a long way. That sound of the howl is terrifying, even now and especially the bit where he see himself in a hospital bed in the woods
