Most original Idea?
i was just wondering what all of you Thought was the most original Horror Movie Idea.
In my Opinion the most original Idea for a movie was A Nightmare on Elm St.(1984) Just the idea of a Killer who stalks and Kills you in your dreams is quite fascinating. But this is Just my Opinion. I would love to know what you guys think is the most original Idea. |
Alien. No matter how smart you are, you're going to lose.
The pods are unbelievably original, the facehugger implants a seed that's going to come out a drone as perfectly adapted to the host's environment as the host was but still be a Xenomorph. Which are impervious to weather, most bullets, the vacuum of space, etc. They have acid for blood, great hunting abilities, terrifying reproductive capacities, & formidable natural weaponry. And as Ash said, they have no remorse or conscious: only a driven instinct to survive unclouded by morality. When they get you, they're not going to kill you. That's a great tagline right there. |
Phantasm
Nuff said. |
I'm a big fan of the "Cube" idea.
I'm a big fan of labyrinths in movies in general and would love to see them being used much more often. |
Always appreciate this ideas:
Carnival of Souls (1962) [ahead of its time] Battle Royale (2000) Final Destination (2000) Triangle (2009) |
Halloween.

When it comes to originality my vote goes to the Ass Demon that is Bad Milo.

But I don't find them that original as they share a lot of similarities with insects. They're like the perfect insect/spider hybrid from Hell. Quote:
My problem is, I can only enjoy those if they have a tight script with no loose endings.I'm the kind of guy who likes to know the who, why, what,... |

Actually, your signature pic is a damn fine example of originality. I'd like to mention "In the Mouth of Madness" as well. That's freakin original and seriously, who doesn't like that movie? Why can't Carpenter come up with this kind of movies more often? |

But often I find it just lazy to leave certain things unexplained. It's like the writer says "Uhm... Screw it! I can't be bothered with this. Let them figure it out." Same thing goes for half assed open endings like the one in Killer Joe. I want the writer to finish his story. Btw, I'm from Western-Europe. Quote:
Carpenter would be the right guy to turn some Lovecraft stories into movies. Or to make movies similar to H.P.'s work. |

You might live in Western Europe, but you're American. |
MOH episode: Cigarette Burns...another great little pretty original flick from Carpenter.

I liked "1408" because the fear was not that the lead character was going to be killed...but that something was going to drive him insane and make him kill himself. Just like it had done to many other guests; and none lasted more than an hour.
No explanation of the antagonist, either, which is different and leaves a lot to the imagination. When the manager says there is no ghost in 1408, and the writer asks well what's going on in there, the manager replies: "1408 is an evil fucking room." Great line, I was hooked from that moment on. |
Not mentioned yet is Begotten which certainly is not for everyone and a challenge to watch but definitely oiriginal.
