Tournament of Horror Movie Settings/locations

A remote cabin in the woods or a research facility at Antarctic, an abandoned old town or castle with a dark secret or a large spacecraft with small group of people on space...the settings of a horror story always play a key part to develop & construct the very base of horror that helps to develop the required atmosphere, creates & stimulates the game of fears with the audience & if delivered effectively, it often stays with us for a long time that can even become a part of our favorite nightmare. As horror film lovers we all know over the years, how brilliantly the horror filmmakers have taken us to so many creepy & unholy places on earth & its beyond that we all often love to talk about & dream to make a visit with our friends. That's why I've made some little efforts from my part & presenting you a tournament for Horror movie settings/locations.

A special courtesy goes to our master organizer _____V_____ for showing us the way how to make an exciting tourney beautifully but as lately he has taken a break from the tournaments & been busy with the site moderation stuffs, so I hereby took this little but daring initiative & finalized 108 entries (though there were few more) for this tournament.

While compiling the entries for the tournament, I've categorized them under 5 sections:
  1. Houses, Apartments & Cabins
  2. Hotels & Motels
  3. Camps, Parks or Wilderness
  4. Towns or Islands
  5. Hospital/Asylum & other facilities

As it's my first time for organizing a tourney, so you may find some mistakes or 'inefficiency' part from my side but please feel free to criticize & give your valuable suggestions as soon as it starts or after it ends, whenever you like.

The tournament will begin shortly, within few hours from now. Expecting participation from all regular HDCians, please cast your valuable vote regularly and make your favorite Horror Movie Setting/Location to win the tourney.

::smile::

Gotta be The Overlook for me.

_____V_____ 01-18-2014 06:24 AM

Fantastic idea. All the best, R!

Overlook should win it, so I'll cast a vote to the Allardyce House from Burnt Offerings.

Feels great to be a voter for a change!

newb 01-18-2014 06:44 AM

great idea Rosh.....this looks like it's going to be a tough tourney to pick

My first thought would have been The Overlook.....but the more I think about it and living a mile from the ocean myself with plenty of small shanty towns like Bodega Bay....the fog rolling in...seagulls screaming off in the distance...yeah...creepy

Bodega Bay for me

MichaelMyers 01-18-2014 06:46 AM

Overlook Hotel.

The Villain 01-18-2014 07:16 AM

Going with Bodega Bay. Great idea BTW Roshiq

neverending 01-18-2014 07:55 AM

The Overlook.

One could argue the hotel itself is a character in the film.

metternich1815 01-18-2014 09:35 AM

I assume I am able to vote as well. I will vote the Overlook Hotel.

Ditto :)

The Overlook Hotel - 4
Bodega Bay - 2
The Allardyce House - 1
The Danvers State Hospital - 0

Need more votes but 1 more can be enough for The Overlook to seal this very first match of the tourney.

Thank you all for welcoming the tournament with so much support. I had a pretty hard time to set the fixture and there are some more tough matches are indeed waiting for you. ::wink::

MichaelMyers 01-18-2014 12:29 PM

_____V_____ 01-19-2014 03:26 AM

The Shinning in The Sumpsons, eh NE? ::wink::

Cave System.

Claustrophobic and deadly.

Haha - I actually thought he did the typo on purpose.

And Cave for me please.

MichaelMyers 01-19-2014 05:22 AM

The Unmapped Cave System, THE DESCENT, 2005

roshiq 01-19-2014 09:04 PM

The Starlight Hotel - 0

Pleasant Valley - 3 (neverending, Elvis_Christ & newb)

Oak Mansion - 2 (hammerfan & Despare)

The Unmapped Cave System - 5 (_____V_____, ChronoGrl, MichaelMyers, The Villain & bamahorrorfan87)

No one cared to feed the crocodiles while Oak Mansion got only 2 visitors. 60's twisted little Southern town delivered a promising challenge but couldn't able to defeat the haunting appeal of a North American Cave System.

The Cave System wins & moves to the next round.
