Hard to find DVDs?

I'm just curious if anybody has run into this lately but it seems like a lot of DVDs have become hard to find without my noticing it. My buddy borrowed From Beyond and The Brood and when he returned them mentioned that he wanted to buy them but the prices were ridiculous. I didn't even notice them go up...

Getting to the point: What horror DVDs have surprised you with their prices and/or availability lately?

EDIT: Add Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane and Cemetery Man to the list... weird.

Stephen Thrower said something pretty interesting about this:

Yeah I noticed that about The Little Girl Who Lives Down The Lane-shame as I really want to see and own a dvd of it. It appears The Stone Tape is also a rarity with only DVDRs on amazon.

Elvis_Christ 12-17-2012 06:51 PM

Slept on getting Code Red's version of Nightmare now it's round the $100 mark. I was suprised on MGM's version of The Burning going out of print and getting expensive. Decided to pick it up to upgrade my tape but missed the boat on that one.

The Little Girl Who Lives Down The Lane is still around as R2 DVD:

Yeah - Bone to pick with you and other members who recommended this - I want to see it but Netflix doesn't have it (though it looks like I could "rent" it on Amazon instant video, which might have to happen in the near future).

I'm not a collector like other people on here, but I've noticed a dearth of horror movies in Netflix lately, which I imagine is related. It's actually pretty disappointing because I originally joined because they had indie horror movies and cult classics but now the collection seems to be dwindling.

Watch it here: http://www.veoh.com/watch/v19922854e...The+Stone+Tape

... Or I could do that. Thanks, EC!

Nice to see you still among the living ;)

I honestly could find neither of those films on amazon when I checked a couple of months ago. So I'm over the moon that they are available and going to be available :)

Nightmare City I got for a few bucks and now its $20-30 on amazon, same with Baby Blood, Witchboard.
And My Brainscan DVD I got for 2 bucks at a pawn shop is going used on Amazon for $42.99!!!(Mine has the lime green font) Some versions are cheaper.
Tales from the Hood also another rarity $30-100. got mine at pawn for 2 bucks.
I hit all the pawn shops cuz they don't waste their time looking up rare DVDs but I usually know what to buy. Just got Bloody Moon today for $5.
Black Sabbath (the old movie) was another $2. pawn find
SO yeah sorry to ramble I get all excited when I score hard to find Horror::stick out tongue::

Looking for a copy of Ogroff: Mad Mutilator. It just recently sold out from diabolik and IDK where else to look.

neverending 12-23-2013 03:09 PM

Amazon has a couple copies for $83.

Tahrgat 12-23-2013 08:19 PM

Well my two disc copy of Re-Animator is doing pretty good. I really only bought it for the syringe highlighter. Also my metal case DVD of The Quiet Earth really surprised me. I have always loved this film and this was the only way I could get it at the time.

The rarest DVD I own - I bought without knowing
There was a very limited release of Swamp Thing
That contained nudity. I had no idea that this was a rare
Edition when I bought it from a used DVD place - and neither did they - I got it
For $8
I noticed the cover was different from the next version I saw
Of it so I looked into it - it's a fairly famous rarity
I've since got Craven and Barbeau's signatures on it
Possibly making it more valuable

I just saw a copy of swampthing with a different cover the other day in a pawn shop, it had people on the cover, I think in the corner, is that what yours is like?

urgeok2 01-14-2014 06:22 AM

the 2 covers are similar - slightly different shots of the swamp thing carrying Adrienne Barbeau -

the rare one has the title in green,

the normal one has the title in red

Disease 01-14-2014 06:27 AM

I'll be passing that shop again in a few days, prob not the same one, as it is most likely an Australian release. but it was different to the the one I have rented in the past, can't remember how. maybe it was just a cheap knock off.

Thanks anyway Urge,

Nice to see you around here again.

Sutter Cane 03-14-2014 05:15 PM
