Off the top of my head...
original Nightmare on Elm Street - Tina's death Saw - the reveal The Ring - girl coming out the tv Poltergeist - clown doll isn't where it was a second before |
I'll think of something soon, but my first ever holy shit moment was the first time I saw Alien as a kid with my mom, the vent scene :)
Also the corpse in the hull of the sunken boat in Jaws. Saw both of these films when I was 6 or 7 and jumped so high at both of those scenes. |
Ti West's House of the Devil, the "Are you not the babysitter?" scene.

Also, the end of Sleepaway Camp, for sure. |

Evil Dead 2 - at the end when the giant tree boss shows up and pretty much everything happening from there is one big "holy shit" moment.
Cabin in the woods - The ending when everything goes crazy. |
I shouldn't say they are my "favorites" but some freaking holy shit moments indeed...:D
The Oldboy twist A Serbian Film ending Most of the parts of NEKRomantik Inside's "Cesarean" baby birth scene |

The reveal of "the skin i live in"

Some memorable holy shit moments for me is
@Roshiq - I agree with the "Inside" scene. I can't really show any friends "Inside" after showing them "Martyrs". (they'll still watch all the other foreign films i have though) lol The ending scenes to "Wait Until Dark" - great scare in one of my favorite movies When the radio first clicks on in "1408" - sitting in silence and when you least expected it blasts through the speakers, a subtle scare, but it works That's what I can think of off the top of my head. I know theirs more shocking moments out there though. :) |
1.Imprint....the under the fingernails torture scene.Sickening.
2.The bone break in the Descent. 3.L'Interieur...the scissors to the belly caesarian scene(AS MENTIONED BEFORE!) 4.mARTYRS...THE SKINNING BIT.oR WHEN she is trying to remove the bolted on eye shield..Yack. 5.Pet Semetary when Gage slices his Mums achilles heel...retch! |
The shower impalement and knife through head in `The Prowler`.

The scene where he's looking out the window trying to wave down a neighbor in another building to ask for help. He's waving and waving as the neighbor mimics his movements when it starts to dawn on him that he's looking at himself. Then a shadow of a man with a knife comes into view. He looks behind him and doesn't notice anything, and looks back at the "neighbor" in time to see the shadow raising the knife to strike him in the back. Man, that sends shivers down my spine every time I see it. There's also the Nurse Station scene from Exorcist 3, it's a good one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zH8yn...layer_embedded |
The end of "The Mist"
Love, love, love it! |
The end of A Serbian Film.
The end of Se7en |
"WHAT'S IN THE BOX!?!?!"
That's gotta be up there... Also, I liked the reveal in High Tension...maybe I was high when I first saw it, but I didn't see that coming. Senseless... When the nurse killed the lead tormentor...but they went ahead with the torture anyway. That threw me a bit...very unexpected. I thought she'd help him escape, but nuh-uh! |
I've more recently been watching the Paranormal Activity movies. I didn't like the first one, but the second and third was nice.
Paranormal Activity 2: scare moment: The mother is checking on her kid when suddenly she is pulled out of the room and down steps by unknown entity. Paranormal Activity 3: scare moment 1: When the crappy oscillating fan/camera is rotating back from the front door to the kitchen table, where the babysitter is sitting. In the first rotation there is someone under a sheet by the front door, then in the second rotation that person is behind the babysitter. After a moment and before the babysitter sees the sheet drops. Paranormal Activity 3: scare moment 2: There is a camera in the girls room and the oldest, Katie is chasing the younger girl when she hits a very solid something while on camera. She is screaming for her mother when suddenly she is pulled up off the ground by her hair. All three of those moments made me jump. There are tons more, but those are the most recent ones. |
The fire extinguisher scene in `Irreversible`.
The beating of the woman in the chair in `Seed` |
The exploding hookers in Frankenhooker (1990)
The multi-layered endings of Happy Birthday To Me (1981) and Night Warning (1982) |
Let's see...
- EVERY KILL in "Make Them Die Slowly" (especially the one dude who first gets castrated then gets the top of his head hacked off) - The ending of "House" where the cat painting projectile-vomits blood (that whole movie is a WTF!?!? moment) |

And which "House" might that be? |

|
Haha. When I saw it in the theater I look over and see this family sitting right behind me with their kids. I was like, WTF?!
|

Inside
Inside: The Woman comes to Sarah's door and asks to come in to use the phone. Sarah says no because her husband is sleeping. The Woman: "Your husband's not sleeping, Sarah. He's dead." Then a short while later she's standing over Sarah while she sleeps. And then pretty much the rest of the movie.
