mass shootings ? what's your opinion?
 

I don't know but anyway I don't think I'm going to be judged for this so here we go. what's everyone's opinions on mass shootings? like columbine virgina tech so on ? it's something that's always interested me just because I'd like to know what pushes people to commit these crimes. I've been thinking about it a lot lately. last Friday morning I actually lost a friend to a shooting in a supermarket in new jersey. and now it has me wondering even more.

whatever it is that pushes these people to do what they do let me just say I do not think its books or tv shows or music of video games or movies. I think that's bullshit. I think something has to be insanely wrong with them. but why aren't we able to prevent these things from happening ?

Indeed it's not movies/music/games that are the motive it is evil as it exists in this burning world, horror movies only remind us of its extreme and even supernatural expressions.

completely agreed. I read a book and in the begining of it was a note from the author it was probably the most genius thing I ever read it made so much sense to me. it basically went along the lines of if you think I'm fucked up for writing this book imagine what I would do if I hadn't wrote it.

That author should be forced to give up writing and be hired to star in all "reality" TV shows...Or be a "gangster" rapper's bodyguard

why ? I think movies and games and writing is an amazing way to express yourself. I mean obviously a lot of people get pissed off throughout the day sitting in traffic someone is rude to them whatever the case is and everyone has a different way to cope with it. some people will beat people up some people will cry some people go out and kill people and some people write movies or books. I'm not saying everyone that writes and directs horror movies makes them instead of going out and killing people but some people make movie personal expirences. like Michael Myers in Rob zombies Halloween he starts off killing people who were jerks to him like his step dad that called him a girl and treated his mom like shit. I don't know just a thought

Using a gun from afar is impersonal .More often than not the people that commit the crimes are loners (postal workers!) and a bit thick.Maybe they derive a sense of power from taking down innocents.Who knows? everyone is different.
I got bullied in school relentlessly but didnt feel the need to dispense my own brand of justice in the form of a gun .I did however spit a massive wad of gum in his hair when I saw him years later in the cinema.That was deeply pleasing ..watching him try to retrieve the sticky mass from his eighties permed hair.Muhahahahhaahahahha!

lmfao that's awesome. yeah I get what you're saying but thats how a lot of horror movies are too like pirhanna Dd that asshole guy gets his head chopped off for being an asshole. a lot of people won't kill someone who pisses them off but it's always good to see karma get them !

Actually on reflection, the other way round is better-I would rather he killed a ton of people (preferably those previously mentioned) then wrote a book or made a movie based on his experiences.

I find it laughable when people attempt to blame movies/games/books for bad things that happen. It happens every generation. "These kids and their newfangled ____________". I also agree that it is good that someone creates something based on their experiences. Mostly that is the reason everyone does, it has a therapeutic affect.

exactly. they take it from oh the kid listens to slayer to oh the kids parents let him listen to slayer what other horrible things do they do?! they obviously don't pay attention he most be neglected. they make it into a huge deal and it's all just stupid. I was involved in a shooting when I was younger. A guy opened fire on me and some friends with a shotgun. A girl in the back seat was hit in the stomach. I ran the guy over. He lived with some broken bones, and later in court he said he was drunk and thought we ment to do him harm. None of us had ever even seen the guy before. The girl survived by the way. She walks with a slight limp because a peice of the sug hit her spine.

Can't go to the blame game of pointing the finger at tv, movies, video games, comic books, etc. People who commit these senseless acts of violence do it for one of two reasons, in my opinion: 1. The person is sick and evil 2. The person can't be famous, so he will choose to be infamous... his only way to gain attention. I was bullied once in a while when I was in school & punched a few kids back in the mouth or nose in retaliation, but never had the thought to use a gun or a knife to "settle the score". I've watched violent movies, read comic books, but again never thought I needed to kill over a disagreement or injustice in my life. Most reasonable people probably have similiar feelings about this topic.

What did you expect relaying that story on a horror forum?

its not an evil,this aint fairy tale land.people are or become mentally ill and do these things(in most cases) as a cry for help,or a cry to show how sad tortured and sick they feel inside.reckon there would have been alot of shootings in my country if the guns were available,we have one of the highest rates of depression and suicides per head of population.i think even in my school days i had fantasys about things like that but it was too hard to commit too.might have gone ahead with it if it was as easy as stealing dads gun and bang bang !"take that you cunts".maybe some friends i knew might have done it too,but without the access to a gun they thought hanging and gassing themselves was an easier way to say fuck you to the world...anyway guns suck,and so do people

that's crazy I'm glad you made it to tell the story and I'm glad the girl made it too. people do such stupid things while under the influence. I honestly believe there need to be stricter gun laws. people shouldn't just have them at their disposle like they do.

I agree with the whole gun thing like I mentioned before too many people just have guns at their disposle and they shouldn't. there are a lot of places that have stricter laws about guns and have like no crime. I'm not saying that if someone wants to go out and kill someone they're not going to because they can't get a gun. however any other form of murder is pretty personal. and a gun can be used from a pretty good distance so how many people are going to walk up to someone and try to rob them with a piece of rope or knife you know?

Pussies and chicken shits use guns. I was an angry and depressed youth and spent a lot of time fighting in the street. Never killed myself because that's a pussy thing to do. Only cowards off themselves and other people because they hurt inside. And all the people I fought were others like me. I never picked on the weak or attacked inoccent people. no people wouldnt get far trying to do a "school stabbing"they would maybe kill one or two people and that would defeat the purpose of showing there hatred for everyone,people would just be like "man that dude must of really hated that guy"like it was a personal thing between them".

This thread went from a completely serious topic to one of the funnier I've seen in a bit. Well here in Massachusetts the most dangerous person is inside a car. I've never seen worse drivers than down here. I have never seen a gun or knife fight in person before actually.

You're lucky. I grew up around violent people. I've been in several violent situations and it's never pleasent. I'm more than willing to throw down in the street but others want to pull guns or knives, so you have to get mean to protect yourself.

It's hard to say. It's complex answer with multiple factors to take into consideration. Columbine, VA tech, DKR midnight showing, etc. Some have a Vendetta and others want to be the front page news, but all are driven by some people malevolent force. Its sad to think that someone could be next door. Sorry to hear of your loss.

Some people blamed Marilyn Manson for Columbine, but I disagree. If that were true, he would have inspired more than two of his millions of fans to kill. TV, films, games, books, music, etc. may, in some instances, act as outlets for shooters, but explanation cannot be found among them.
