Horror Hybrids!

Ok, theres tons of threads asking what the best horror movies are, and this one is the same. Only different. What do you think are the best horror hybrids? Like horror/comedy(Ghostbusters), horror/superhero(Spawn, Hellboy), horror/action(Underworld, Van Helsing). Feel free to post ur faves, i love them all!

Vampenguin 05-19-2004 04:43 PM

My fave is probably one of the superhero ones, especially the ones I mentioned, but Ghostbusters rules too! And Underworld!

feral cat 05-20-2004 01:37 AM

I quite liked Peter Jackson’s the Frighteners as a comedy horror, it is pretty underrated!
... Most modern "Horror", is of the hybrid type now i.e. action/horror etc...

Vampenguin 05-20-2004 02:42 AM

yah, i guess ur right....but i thik i'll check out that one that u mentioned, sounds good!

alixzander 05-20-2004 04:45 PM

... I can't belive some one else has seen "Rouge", I never see it talked about ... I am not one for romance, but I loved this, it makes "Ghost" seem like weak drivell ... oh yeah it is!!!

I have not seen, the "Daed and the Deadly" ... Would you recommend it Zwoti as I will have to buy it, its just not gonna be in Blockbuster!!!!

feral cat 05-24-2004 11:19 AM

Thanks I'll pop I'll try and get it this week!!!

A Chinese ghost story is also good ... with Mother tounge, as is the Bride with the white hair, but I think my favourite in the genre is Zu Warriors, I love that movie!!!

... Army of Darkness is one of the best horror/comedy hybrids, the one liners just don't stop!!!!

Feral Cat

Hey guys, I've got to start writing down these movies, haven't seen them but I am so sick of mainstream stuff!

Do you have a list of obscure great ghost movies to give to me? I think I'll just start buying. Opinions are so good here, can pretty much trust the recs.!

ahh yes, the wonders of tsui hark, hong kong's answer to spielberg.

Dave 05-24-2004 12:11 PM

I still stand by this one: Extreme Ops. Best Action/Horror movie...the whole movie was a horrific tragedy, full of make believe action.

jay o2 waster 05-24-2004 12:36 PM

i never seen that

Try "Rouge", its a nice Ghost story!!!

Those others that Zwoti and I just mentioned are Kung-fu/horror hybrids, so it depends if you like Kung-fu in your movies or not! They have a lot of wire fighting like you get in the Matrix or Crouching Tiger, only better!!!

As for recomendations of cult and foriegn films in general it depends what you like, some of the Italian horror is pretty good, like Lamberto Bava and Dario Argento's stuff!!!!

I think Zwoti has seen more cult horror than me, he seems to know his stuff!!!

feral cat 05-24-2004 01:47 PM

How about some classics, Roman Polanski's "Fearless vampire hunters", comedy horror and the classic 1974 "Legend of the 7 golden vampires" which stars Peter Cushing and is a Hammer/Golden Harvest Uk/Hong Kong horror/kung fu which has kung fu Vampires and Zombies ... I love it!!!!

fearless vampire killers (aka dance of the vampires) is a brilliant horror/comedy...just love it and the original jewish vampire joke.

feral cat 05-24-2004 02:41 PM

Thats true, but I do like Demons, and having just watched it again I had that in mind!!!!!

Have you seen any of Mario's Peplum films???

then you're forgiven, though i do like a blade in the dark......can anyone spell hyprocrite.

feral cat 05-24-2004 02:59 PM

Talking of the farther ...

Herules in the centre of the earth aka Hercules vs. the vampires

a sword and sandal/horror hybrid ... now you don't see that evryday!!!

Peplems are funny I watched "Hercules, Ulysees and Samson" the other day its not horror, but it is a cult classic! Samson and Hercules meet up and admire each others mighty strenghth while knocking over polystyrine temples!!! YAY:D

nine9 05-24-2004 03:03 PM

Thanks everyone wrote everything down. Don't mind some kung fu stuff, loved Kill Bill and Crouching Tiger, but like real old fashoin ghost stories. I like them to be something I might believe could be real. That gets under my skin.

Love Polanski so I will check this one out,and will look for movies with the directors mentioned!:)
