Alexandre Aja to make Joe Hill's "Horns"

One of the hottest horror filmmakers out there today will adapt a novel by one of the hottest horror writers around: Alexandre Aja will direct the film adaptation of Joe Hill's Horns.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Aja "is teaming up with scary storyteller Joe Hill on the feature adaptation of Hill's novel Horns, being made by Mandalay."

"Aja is coming on board to direct the project, about a 26-year-old man who wakes up with a massive hangover and discovers horns sprouting from his head. He becomes convinced that their existence is tied to the unsolved murder of his girlfriend.

"Scott Bunin wrote the script adaptation of the novel, which was published in February 2010.

"Mandalay's Cathy Schulman and Peter Guber are producing. Hill, also the writer of the horror comic book series Locke & Key and the son of author Stephen King, is executive producing.

"Mandalay is packaging the project and is in the middle of securing financing. The goal is to have Aja direct the movie in late spring or early summer 2012 before moving on to Cobra, a sci-fi pirate movie based on manga source material."

"Mandalay is also developing an adaptation of Hill's short story Twittering from the Circus of the Dead. Todd Lincoln is attached to direct."

Heard Horns was a great book and I love Hill's writing, but i wouldve rather seen Heart-Shaped Box become a movie. Although i do think Horns is way more of an original story. Cant Wait.

Daniel Radcliffe to star in supernatural thriller 'Horns'

Quote:

Daniel Radcliffe has been cast in the adaptation of Joe Hill’s New York Times best-seller Horns.
Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes) will direct the film that centers on Ig Perrish (Radcliffe), the prime suspect in the violent rape and murder of his girlfriend. Perrish awakens one day with a hangover and horns growing out of his head. More strange: The horns have the power to get people to confess their sins — which should help him find the real killer.

Sounds awesome. And yes, he is King's son.

Seen a lot of good reviews from the book. I have to say, I'm quite excited since I'm not much of a book reader so movie is really good news for me.

The Villain 07-26-2012 02:24 PM

I'm not so sure about Harry Potter playing Ig. Not really what i pictured when i read the book.

wizard of gore 07-27-2012 12:48 PM

Ditto having him in it is all I need to know to avoid this like the plague-what a waste of a potentially good adaptation.

He's not a bad actor or anything but physically speaking, that's just not how i pictured Ig. I'll still check it out though because i really liked the book and Aja is awesome.

Don't get me wrong I agree that Aja is awesome-I'm just really annoyed that Ratvermincliffe's inclusion has made this unwatchable for me.

I'm surprised they're not doing Heart Shaped Box instead. I prefer Horns but HSB just seems a lot more translatable to film.

I still haven't got around to reading that yet-I really need to.

Can't agree. Jennifer Lawrence sounded bad for Hunger Games, yet completely owned the part. It might not match your vision but you can't right it off.

Daniel Radcliffe cast to be "Ig" in upcoming Horns movie

I didnt even know that Joe Hills book was to become a movie. Now that i know that im friggin stoked. Im not sold on Radcliffe for this role though. Reading the book i never pictured someone like him as the character. Although he seems to have a dark presence and the age seems about the same as in the book. Not saying it wont be good, it just might take a while to get used to him in this role. Wonder who will take the role of Lee and Merrin. As long as it stays true to the book i think itll be great.

Anyone have any more info on this......

Daniel Radcliffe to play "Ig" Perrish in Horns

*grumble grumble*

I finally got around to reading Joe Hill's Horns and I really really enjoyed it. Hill's writing is similar to his father's in that he writes not only horror but weaves tales that include very intricate, believable, and colorful characters (for better or for worse). I really enjoyed Horns and fell in love with its protagonist Ig... Which is why THIS image of a colorful Radcliffe with King's Richard Faire-esque Horns just makes me gag.

He looks like Twilight with poorly-done Pan horns. sigh.

Thoughts? Reactions? I actually don't have much of an issue with Radcliffe; I thought he was great in Woman in Black... But the makeup and his outfit is just killing me here.

Director is Alexandre Aja, which I think could be good or bad... High Tension was well-directed, though the ending was awful... And Piranha was a blast. However, he also did Mirrors and P2... Guess we'll see which direction this one goes in...

Ferox13 01-02-2013 09:28 AM

I really think this book will translate well to film.
There's a lot of inner monologue which will be hard to do and it won't be the same without it.
I think Heart Shaped Box would make a better film.

ChronoGrl 01-02-2013 12:49 PM

I totally agree - I really liked Horns, but I'm not sure how it will successfully translate into film, especially since a good portion of the book is inner dialogue. Plus the story is so rich and character-driven as it goes back and forth in time - Realistically to fit that into 90 minutes, they will probably need to cut a lot of that out, and I really enjoyed the flashbacks as an interesting counterbalance to the main story line. Speaking of flashbacks, I think that they're hard to do successfully in film and considering that 1/2 of the movie is made of flashbacks, that's another difficulty to overcome.

I think that Heart-Shaped Box would make a great film - Straight-forward and a quality creepy ghost story.

One of the more hotly anticipated movies that will make its splashy premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival is Alexandre Aja's "Horns," an adaption of the silly, surreal, scary-as-hell novel by Joe Hill (a.k.a., Stephen King's son).

Now a trio of new photos from the film has debuted (courtesy of Entertainment Weekly), featuring the Boy Who Lived Daniel Radcliffe rocking some pretty devilish nubs.

The film, premiering tonight, features Radcliffe as a young man who, a year before, was suspected of his girlfriend's vicious murder. One day he wakes up to discover horns protruding from his forehead. As his supernatural odyssey wears on, the horns become larger and more powerful, as he starts to feel the power of the devil himself.

It'll be interesting to see if Aja can handle some of the story's dreamier elements (like the flashbacks between Radcliffe and Juno Temple as the murdered girlfriend) or if he'll focus primarily on the supernatural horror and detective story elements.

The film has a strong supporting cast in James Remar, Kelli Garner, Joe Anderson, and Max Minghella, and Hill's novel was pretty unforgettable.
