dark endings
I love horror movies with dark or sad endings. When you watch them subsequently, you sort of get this odd feeling all along. Can you guys name your favorite endings?
|
The new Dawn of the dead.
|
Well some of these aren't horror but oh well....
28 Days Later, American psycho, Ravenous, Prince of Darkness, Halloween (those last shots are fantastic), A Clockwork Orange, Titus (masterpiece), Resevior Dogs, The Thing....im sure theres more but those are the ones i can see on my shelf... |
its ending wasnt really dark but it was weird.... 2 hour photo
or was it 1 hour? whatever! |
Donnie Darko.
That one made me wince then laff. |

the alternate ending i read about for the original dawn of the dead where peter shoots himself and the girl sticks her head in the chopper blades
also halloween part 4 and 2 and H20 (poor "Michael") i know in H20 it wasnt michael who died |
28 days later wasnt really an sad ending. they did imply that they would be rescued, and that all of the infected would starve to death.
|
Seconds
The Wicker Man Cube Kaïro The Ring/Ringu Audition (the whole 15/20 minutes) City of Angels (Meg Ryan: Lalala, I'm so happy and in lo-*truck hits her*, I'm sorry, but that's just funny) Zombie Uzumaki the original Dawn of the Dead Being John Malkovich Cabinet of Dr. Caligari Following Last House On The Left Se7en Ran |
Night of the Living Dead
Army of Darkness, Directors Cut |
Dawn of the Dead(the new one)
Donnie Darko there is more I just can't think of them I think that Gothika would have been alright but if the ending was dark it would have been better. Not Horror, but Training Day had a pretty good one. I just wish the good white cop that wins, would of died also. |
The Others and Sixth Sense...The endings were similar...both sad...as well as unexpected (to me anyway)
|
Oh yea I forgot Se7en. I also like Apocalypse Now. That movie is mind blowing. Oh yea, the really alternate ending to 28 days later on the dvd, the one that wasn't filmed but had the 2 guys playing the roles.

How can a thread like this go this far without anyone mentioning Usual Suspects? (Admit it, the 1st time you saw it, you were blown away unless someone had already ruined it for you.)
Usual Suspects Donnie Darko Slumber Party Massacre Night of the Living Dead (Original) Return of the Living Dead 1 & 2 Fight Club The Deer Hunter Memento Dawn of the Dead (Original) Suicide Kings Jeepers Creepers 1 Cabin Fever (I didn't really like this movie, but the very end was kinda cool.) I know most of them aren't horror, but horror movies so often end predictably. I love when they don't, but unfortunately most do. |
Wow, I really like Cabin Fever. One of my fav. I loved how it ended. You just ruined Usual Subjects for me. Damn you. My principal was telling me about it.
Jeepers Creepers didn't end strange. I thought the movie was terrible. |
i agree. i thought jeepers creepers sucked but the ending was surprising in that the main character, who everyone thinks is going to kill the badguy and survive and live happily ever after, gets killed ! i thought it was quite amusing !

I don't remember that, maybe I should watch it again. I just didn't like that movie. There was a song that a crazy lady sung. What the fuck? He was actually cool looking when he wore the hat and coat. but what monster drives a truck?
|
The Ring, Se7en, One Hour Photo, Memento, Usual Suspects
And my two favorites: Cabin Fever and Night of the Living Dead. |
The end of the Original Night of the Living Dead blew me away the first time I saw it. I thought it was the most awesome ending on any movie I had ever seen. Waaaaayyyy ahead of it's time.
|
The ending to the original Night Of The Living Dead really pissed me off...That was just fucking WRONG...He should have lived after all that shit:mad:

I agree, he was the one character I liked, and he had to go and get shot. I just remembered the ultimate sad ending. Pet Sematary. I'm watching it right now and every time little Gage comes on, I remember how sad it will be later on. |

prolly all

Possibly the best thing about The Blair Witch Project was that it didn't have an ending, come to think of it, no horror movie should have have a conclusion, they usually suck balls and sometimes ruin the whole film.

LOL. That's why I thought it was such a great ending. The last thing you wanted to happen. The last thing you'd expect to happen. I haven't been as shocked at the ending of any movie since. LOL |

No, the revelation of what's really going on is at the end of the movie. Leonard kills Teddy at the beginning. He makes a vague reference to the basement, but Leonard's got it written down that Teddy is the one he's looking for so he kills him |
About Memento.
I like how it's a possibility that he killed the wrong guy. And that it could have happened in the past and could continue to happen in the future. Maybe I interpreted this wrong, but that's what I got out of it. |
I liked how the thing obviously didn't start when the movie did and didn't end when the movie did (even if it had been in chronological order). It gives it more weight
|
Memento was probly the first movie that really affected me in some way. Like emotionally and all that. The fact that he will never ever be satisfied and get revenge is just horrible. I also think it sucks that he killed Teddy. Didnt Teddy help him find this other guy that he killed? (like I said, I haven't seen it for probly a year)
|
yeah, and apparently helped him find the real one, too.
