Favourite Horror Movies
Being brand new to the site I thought id make myself known by listing my top 10 horror movies in no particular order -
Halloween The Evil Dead II A Nightmare On Elm Street The Devils Rejects Day Of The Dead Saw Willard 28 Weeks Later The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Brainslasher Honorable mentions to - Candyman Hatchet Halloween 666 Producers Cut Nightwatch Hellraiser Hellworld |
Which Halloween?
Which Willard? Which Texas Chainsaw Massacre? |
Where's the silent movies?;)
|
Wow, Willard? There's an interesting choice.
Anyway, welcome, I can't say that our favourites are similar (except for TCM, Day Of The Dead, assuming the original, and Evil Dead II, though I prefered the first film) but hey, that's the spirit of debate. |
Which Nightmare on Elm Street?
Which Day of the Dead? Which Saw? Which Nightwatch? |
John carpenters original Halloween, the original Elm Street, original Day Of The Dead, the first Saw, the original TCM although I have a soft spot for Dennis Hopper in TCM II and the Crispin Glover Willard.
|
You dont like any of the Friday the 13ths?? Well heres the ones i like.....
Halloween 1,2,4,5,H20 Nightmare On Elm St 1&2 Friday the 13th 4,5,7,8,10 Shaun of the Dead Psycho Sleepy Hollow |
He just said they were his top 10- not that they were the only horror films he liked.
|
Well theyre not in his top ten??? my bad didnt see that part sheesh
|
I do like Friday the 13th the original and the second one is good too. The third is badically just a poor setup for 3d and number 4 is a good idea done badly. The series then just ticks over till number 9 which is again a great idea but shockingly terrible, the franchise is yhen saved by Jason x imo.
It's like Halloween, number three is a great concept but didn't put bums in seats so by the time we get to number 6 its a bit of a mess, though I have a soft spot for 666, the version that was never released. I also enjoyed Rob Zombies Halloween but his sequel was all kinds of bad. Oh and for the record there's only one Jason Voorhies and his names Kane Hodder :) |

Halloween 666 the producers cut delves into the whole mythology of thorn and how that ties into what makes Jason the killer he is. It's only available on bootleg which ordinarily is not condone but I highly recommend it as it answers questions that go ignored in the theatrical cut.
Hodder is the man and I was gutted he didn't get to go toe to toe with Robert Englund in Freddy vs Jason. His turn in Hatchet is great too. |

It brings closure to the Myers/Loomis dynamic too

It's labelled the producers cut and frankly is a completely different movie, not just slightly different but almost a whole other film.

I accidently bought the 666 version many years ago and got hella confused! I'd seen the regular version on cable and thought I had got a shitty foreign bootleg, little did I know I had actually gotten a little treasure!:)(i got it for 3 bucks at a pawn shop!) My thoughts on your F13th pics(in the spirit of debate): 1 is overrated imo. I found it kind of boring and didn't much care for the story... 2 was an improvement imo. 3&4 were the best in the franchise imo. They are my 2 favorites. |
I think the first two are collectively a great start up to the franchise and work together in much the same vein as the first two Halloween movies. I think I may have got my numbers wrong as four is the Corey Feldman entry isn't it? If so I do like that movie, its number five the new beginning I'm not keen on and then everything upto Jason X is kinda dreadful although the end of number 9 with Freddys glove is spinechillingly great.

As far as Kane Hodder....I am a fan of some of his work but not a fan as him as a person. I fucking hate juggalos. |
Never knew that about him but doesn't really bother me. This thread got me thinking ....has there been a horror franchise that has continually been good?
We've covered Halloween and Friday 13th, Saw was brilliant at the beginning, the second and third films were good and everything after that was dire. Even classics like the Omen movies got worse as they went on. Thinking about it whilst nowhere near as good as the original the three Psycho sequels are not terrible and the Hellraiser films weren't really any worse as they went on and even tried some interesting ideas on the original premise, oh and Hellworld is fantastic. Any other shouts? Is say the Romero dead movies but he kinda killed the franchise with diary and survival, both not terrible but certainly not worthy enteries in the series. |
Hiya Smm,nice to have you here finally.
I have said this to you before but i`ll say again here. The first three Romero zombie flics are classics, but, and its a big but,his other three zombie flics were not.In fact they are quite bad to be honest, not the worst that is out there but they set the series backwards and personally i think he should hang his zombie boots up or change back to the style i have grown up with. |

I enjoyed Return Of The Living Dead parts 1, 2 and 3 but after that it became a chore to watch. Plus a shout out to Scanners 3 though while not better than the first film was much better than the second. |
