MAJOR FvJ2 announcement
 

The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly had a blurb stating that New Line Cinema had purchased the rights to the character Ash (from Evil Dead series). The reson for this purchase was solely so that they would be able to use him in FvJ2!

I don't know about you, but I'm pretty damn excited by this.

(There is also a post in the 'upcoming movies' forum about this, but in case you didnt feel like reading through several pages of banter, I posted it here. Plus, I felt that news this big deserved it's own thread. )

So, what do you guys think? Who will win round 2?

Personally I don't understand why everybody gets so pissed of and upset about this kind of thing. Whenever a remake or a VS is announced, people tend to flip and say "don't do it" "it will reuin the sereis'' and stuff like this. But why? Is it really that bad. We are all on this message board because we all share the same love for horror MOVIES. But when the announce a remake or vs we disown them. I have done it before. But when I really think about it, it gives me something to look foward to. If they wern't making sequels, and remakes, and vs films, there would be less movies to see and do we really want that? Well i sure as hell don't. I want to see these movies. And if they end up sucking, then don't pay attention to it. I mean if this FvJvAsh thing ever sees the light of day, and it ends up sucking ass, so what, it's not like it is going to make the original Nightmare, or Evil Dead, or Friday the 13th movies any less cool.

Yeah Bruce Campbell is going to be reprising his role as Ash. I guess I should have said that, but I must have figured it went without saying.

I agree with Jay-if it sucks will NOES,Fri 13th,and Evil Dead be any less valid?Alot of people think Jason X was shit,but did it ruin the others?No.Did FvsJ ruin the 2 franchises for the people who hated it?No.Maybe it will be awsome,maybe it will suck,but how can you judge it before you've seen it?

Did FvsJ alone make you sick of the concept?I'm 26 and I can't recall anytime in my years that horror icons have squared off in a movie.I know there have been alot of rumors floating around about new vs movies-but other than the Alien vs Predator movie they've all turned out to be bullshit(Helloween).
I think pitting icons against each other is a cool idea that hasn't been done in decades.When I see "The Creeper meets Chucky at The House Of 18,000 Corpses",I'll agree,the shit got out of hand.

Freddy versus Jason worked because both characters are so similar, they are instantly recognizable and have come to epitomise the slasher genre, becoming popular icons in the process. One could imagine them existing in the same demented universe.

What I was hoping for was that FvJ would be followed by continuations of both franchises, for which FvJ would just be the stepping stone, but... ahhh crap, hail to the king!

It doesn’t upset me I have better things to worry about so I agree with you too a point! I guess it’s to do with nostalgia you don’t want something you really enjoy to be spoilt for the sake of some extra dollars! When you think about it things can be tarnished I’m sure a lot of people are enjoying Michael Jackson classics a lot less now there’s a chance he’s a pedo!

For me I find remakes unimaginative and sometimes pointless such as the psycho remake and the TCM one! It’s always better to see something fresh and new or at least with a plot of its own!

I don't see anything wrong with the idea. It's just a continuation of a tradition. Think of the werewolf and mummy pictures back in the forties. Films like these provide a little light entertainment, they make money for the industry, some of which trickles into new ideas, and they keep the horror market alive. Another bonus is the fact that most cinema hooligans will go to these show's, and leave the better stuff to us!

Agreed. And F vs. J, ok its a stretch but ok plots aside it kinda works. Now ash doesnt fit in AT ALL, no where, Evil dead is a whole different world, it doesnt match up plot wise at all, and a blatent cash in on the VS. franchise, its just sad, and it WILL tarnish F vs. J. My opinion.....

Please note that this IS NOT the same atricle that I saw(I just found this one today while looking online for the same blurb I saw.), but it should (possibly) give some credibility to this post. The article is entitled Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash CONFIRMED. Now remember this is from October 2003 and the article that I made this post about is current.

From what I've heard(not to be taken whole-heartedly) Ash is only after Freddy and he's using the Necronomicon to do it.How Jason fits that scenario,I have no idea.The way i understand it,its gunna be Ash & Jason vs Freddy-and this will be the end of the NOES franchise.
I do want to make clear these are all rumors I've encountered in the last few weeks,I have no documented proof-so take it like a rumor.

i really dont really like this idea i think ash should stay in evil dead movies and not mix them like they are doing. if anythink i wish they made another evil dead instead of having him in the new fvj movie

I love the idea. I'll be the first to admit, I wasn't too crazy about FvJ when I first heard about it because I thought they'd botch it up, but in reality, it turned out pretty good. I'm not sure how Ash will work into the storyline, but I do like the rumor you heard about him going after Freddy via the Necronomicon. That would be cool.

It will be interesting to see how they work out the plot. One thing I would wager is true though is that Ash will, inevitably, make it out alive. (I'm just guessing, but how could they kill our Ash?)

by the way i just want to let people know i dont think the idea is the greatist but that wont stop me from seeing it the first day it comes out

All three are icons-all three will live-but it will seem Ash came out on top.

I thought FvJ was kinda corny, but I like Robert Englund, so eh.

Ash being in the new FvJ won't bother me, as long as they cast Bruce Campbell. If they don't cast Bruce, I'll hate the movie with a passion.
