A list of obscure horror gems that you'd like to recommend
I’m not talking about well-known movies that we all love, like HALLOWEEN or THE EXORCIST, but those little-known horror flicks that you would want to recommened.
1. AFRAID OF THE DARK (1991) 2. THE BOYS FROM BRAZIL (1978) 3. DEAD OF WINTER (1987) 4. THE LAST OF SHEILA (1973) 5. THE LITTLE GIRL WHO LIVES DOWN THE LANE (1976) 6. THE REFLECTING SKIN (1990) i would love to find some horror movies that i may not have watched yet, please leave some feedback. |
I've only seen 3 of these.
The Little Girl who lives down the Lane is an amazing film - the performances from Jodie Foster and Martin Sheen are top notch. |
The Boys From Brazil is amazing! How can you go wrong with Laurence Olivier? In fact, I just bought this!
|
yeah i have got to check these movies out, if anybody got any obscure movies we may have not watched please share.
|

Hope you both enjoy them-forgot to mention that there are two movies called Dead Of Night both great-the old forties british film and the 1977 american one (sometimes called Dead Of The Night). Oh and there's also one from 1974 usually known as Deathdream but also known as Dead Of Night-but I wasn't too keen on that one-although it was very spooky and atmospheric.

Deathdream fucking rules.
I've mentioned it about 10,000,000 times on here but Deranged (1974) is one I'd recommend. Stage Fright (1987) is one that seems to have slipped most people by. Alone In The Dark (1981) Jack Sholder is one of the genre's best directors. Criminally underutilised. Great how this one had a stalker in a hockey mask before Friday The 13th :D The Deadly Spawn (1983) One of the best monster flicks. Fully of trashy goodness. Trick Or Treat (1986) This one is a lot of fun and perhaps the best rock n' roll themed horror flicks. Patrick (1978) Franklin wasn't quite as an effective Hitchcock protégé as De Palma but I dig this one. Gotta throw some slashers in just because... Blood Rage (1983) The Mutilator (1985) Nightmare (1981) |
Great list Elvis..
I always find it weird that no one mentions Deathdream but Child shouldn't play with dead things gets all the hype. Have you seen Patrick 2 - its a fucking insane sleaze bucket of a film. |

Just seen bits and pieces of Patrick 2 need to get round to watching it properly looks like a blast. |

Deranged is one of those films that almost always slips through the cracks for some reason. It's probably the best straightforward film about the Wisconsin ghoul, Ed Gein.
Looking over the other recommendations and the HDC Unsung list, I'd strongly back up: The Devils Tenebre In The Mouth Of Madness Dagon Session 9 The Other Sleepaway Camp Society The Brood Ravenous Possession The Bird With The Crystal Plumage Profondo Rosso Picnic At Hanging Rock The Vanishing |

Goodness I still haven't seen Deranged, The Vanishing, The Mutilator or Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things so need to catch up with those.
On the subject of Trick Or Treat-my sister had the original VHS and it had some trailers on it including one for Dream Demon which I think starred Timothy Spall-has anyone seen it?-the original VHS has long been out of print. I'll back up The Bird With The Crystal Plumage and Sleepaway Camp-should have included those on my list. |
I agree with most of the movies listed here. Other good movies unnamed
1.Hell Master (My personal favorite movie) 2. Dead Pit 3. The Pit 4. Infection (Japanese) 5. Dead Snow (Newer German) 6. The Loved Ones (Newer) 7. George Romero's Martin & Knightriders (Not Horror) 8. The Gate 9. The Blob (1988) Can't think of anymore. Oh yes, And there is two Frightmares that come up, one from 1974 & another from 1986 or something. |
