Best/Worst Of 2010

What were the best and worst horror films of 2010? I enjoyed:

The Human Centipede: First Sequence
The Crazies
Frozen

I've avoided any turkeys so far, but I'm way behind on viewing recent films.

What others?

swiss tony 01-30-2011 07:46 AM

I just watched Let The Right One In and loved it, although I don't think it was made in 2010. Which, come to think of it, makes this comment a little redundant. Anyway, I'd highly recommend it. Has simiarities with Ginger Snaps ie. similar social commentary, but just an all round superior film.
The movie from 2010 I'm most looking forward to seeing is Black Swan.

TheWickerFan 01-30-2011 07:52 AM

Black Swan is very good. Probably the best film of the year.

Many thanks Roshiq. This will be extremely helpful. I guess most people are like me and don't get around to watching recent films for awhile.:o

At least try to catch on later those films that made into my top 10.:)

I'll try to come up with worst ones later.

siorai 02-03-2011 07:48 AM

Best: The Crazies.

Easily the most memorable of what I saw this year. I loved how it started pretty intensely and never let up. Not as gory as I was expecting, but very effective with what there was. I would put A Serbian Film right up there as well, but it's not a film that I will want to watch over and over again. The Human Centipede was great as well for what it was.

Worst: Frozen.

I wanted to turn this off so many times, but I persevered mainly because being an avid snowboarder I kept thinking of what I might do in that situation. But the movie is just so incredibly bad. Bad acting and stupid plot twists (lift cables are razor-sharp wire? wolf packs roaming a ski hill?) killed what could have been a pretty good one-room movie.

TheWickerFan 02-03-2011 12:39 PM

Thank you Siorai. I enjoyed all four of those films. I know what you mean about Frozen though.

BipolarExpress 02-06-2011 08:17 AM

Let Me In -
unequivocally the freshest most cherished movie for myself in awhile.
Breathes fresh air into the stale subgenre that has been seemingly overdosing as of late
on pop culture.
This movie has the potential to evoke pathos - whether you want it to or not.

I put it right up there with Let The Right One In

dolby 02-08-2011 02:25 AM

the best horror movie is Paranormal activity.....

swiss tony 02-08-2011 04:53 AM

I noticed in the credits for The Crazies, George A. Romero got a credit for being 'Executive Producer'. What does this entail? What would his contribution have been? The cynic in me thinks they had to give him that and a pay cheque for permission to remake his original and his input was minimal. I know there are members here who work on movies and I'd be interested toI suppose it wouldn't hurt the films credibility to have him in there. here if that sort of thing happens.

movietiger05 02-14-2011 01:32 PM

Worst movie of 2010 for me, definitely was Devil.

BookZombie 02-20-2011 04:10 AM

I am so bad at keeping track of which year a movie is made. I liked Suck, The Troll Hunter, Daybreakers, The Wolfman, Splice.

Non horror films from 2010 I really liked where Inception, Iron Man 2, The Lightening Thief, Hot Tub Time Machine, Prince of Persia the Sands of Time.

There is probably allot of movies I am forgetting as I do not remember what year they where made. But I think there where quite a few good movies last year.

fran 03-21-2011 01:14 AM

I agree, loved the Human Centipede!!

Not sure if you've seen Case 39 or Chain Letter??

TheWickerFan 03-21-2011 01:27 AM

I saw Case 39. It was quite good, though I felt the ending was weak.

fran 03-21-2011 11:33 PM

Have you seen Orphan?

Yes. Case 39 was far superior to Orphan.

Orphan was just so cliched. The girl was creepy, but the whole setup was very tired and by the book.

fran 03-23-2011 12:18 AM

I didn't mind that one but I think I was looking for something a bit creepier? Maybe because of all the hype before it was released :)

BookZombie 03-24-2011 01:00 AM

I agree that Case 39 is better than Orhpan. Now I think Orphan have better filming, it is technically better made, however I think the story of Case 39 is better. Now as for the child actors, I have to say that while Jodelle, the little girl who plays the monster in Case 39 is my favorite child actor and therefore that movie get points from me, the little girl who played Ester in Orphan did an amazing job, though I still think Case 39 is better.

I seam to have misunderstood the point of this thread as I posted to it right after I joined the forum. Let me rectify that.

My opinion of the best horror movie of 2010 is The Crazies however I have not seen Let Me In as it is not come to Norway yet so I might like that better.

My opinion of the worst horror movie of 2010 is Valhalla Rising, through it may be it was released late in 2009. This must be the most boring film I have ever seen, it is on my list of worst movies ever.

You either have too much time, or are a movie critic.

LOL Agreed. But The Crazies definitely had to be the best horror movie of 2010

Fearonsarms 04-01-2011 03:42 PM

I'm a bit behind on movies this year but I loved Shutter Island and Outcast.

Hated The Adjustment Bureau

TheWickerFan 04-12-2011 10:22 AM

Watched Splice against my better judgment. It was even worse than I expected.

I actually enjoyed that film - i can see alot of ppl hating it though..I actually saw another film really like it called Van Diemen's Land..

Sistinas666 04-12-2011 12:15 PM

I haven't seen it yet, is Valhalla Rising a horror flick? I have pretty much avoided it assuming it was a viking version of 300 or something.

Agreed! I thought there were too many plot holes for it to be interesting. I honestly COULD NOT suspend my disbelief on that one!

...

I think that 2010 was a pretty disappointing year for horror, to be honest... I would say that my favorites were (in no particular order):
  • Black Swan
  • Shutter Island
  • Piranha 3D
  • [REC] 2
  • Devil
  • The Possession of David O'Reilly
  • Paranormal Activity 2
  • Case 39

Honorable mentions:
  • Splice
  • Black Death

To be honest, I thought that The Crazies was incredibly disappointing; too many silly deus ex machina moments.

There's a lot on Roshiq's list that I haven't see, though, so thanks for the recs...

Diabolical 04-17-2011 05:11 PM

Good:
Daybreakers
The Book of Eli
The Wolfman
The Crazies
How to Train Your Dragon
Clash of the Titans
Kick Ass
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Iron Man 2
Shrek Ever After
Toy Story 3
Jonah Hex
Predators
Despicable Me
Salt
Piranha
Machete
Resident Evil 4
The Town
Let Me In
30 Days of Night 2
Paranormal Activity 2
Saw 7
Due Date
Megamind
Skyline
Tron True Grit

Sucked:
The Last Exorcism

Not horror - it is about a Viking but is nothin like 300..It follows a Viking warrior who is travelling with some Christian Warriors to fight in the Crusade.

Its very slow and atmospheric with almost no dialogue.

Yeah, sounds shite!

I went to a special screening of The Whisperer in Darkness at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast and was bored rigid.

It was probably faithful to a fault to the book but, HP Lovecraft is amazing because of the beauty of the language, and that just didn't translate in the movie. It was made to appear like an old '40s movie, and they did that really well but the movie was too long.

It was the same group that made Call of Cthulu, which is supposed to be great but I'll put off watching it for a while. At least until the memory of the above has faded.

Just watched Harpoon last night - What a blast! Really liked that one. I'd say it's in my "Best of 2010" Category.
