Not seen the Kings Speech but Jesse Eisenberg was amazing in The Social Network.

Good to see Bale won best supporting actor. He really impressed me with his performance in The Fighter.
|
Did we really have such a dearth of comedies this year?

Yeah, I'm trying to remember the ones I actually enjoyed...
Get Him to the Greek was pretty fun... Uhm... Hot Tub Time Machine? LOL Didn't really care for Kids are All Right - Also don't really think it's a "comedy." REALLY need to see Social Network and I'm psyched that Portman won best actress for Black Swan. Definitely deserved it. |
Ricky Gervais seems to have got a mixed reaction to his hosting last night. I watched the first hour or so last night and thought he was hilarious, seems some of the 'great and good' of Hollywoodland cant take a joke.
Here's his opening monologue (I love the Charlie Sheen bit!) |

the social network beat black swan for best picture? :/
|
Surpried by the reaction some of the media have had towards Gervais. It's like they watched the office but never thought to watch any of his stand-up. I didn't even think he was that harsh and not that much worse than he has been in the past on US tv.

Who wants to see cher in a movie?...No one . it's not 1975... I thought that was rather excellent. |

Gervais was funny in Grand Theft Auto 4... that's it.
Seriously, the dude sucks, Just like any other british comedian. Not being racist. Just honest. :) Please love me. |

He wasnt as vicious last year and probably picked his targets a little more carefully, but still, compared to his stand-up I didnt think he was all that harsh.

They knew exactly what they were getting, he did say beforehand he was going to push the boundaries further this time around and maybe some felt it went too far. I get that some people think he can be a smug and self congratulating because I think he is, but its so much better than having some sycophantic lickspittle verbally wanking off every performer nominated. |

It reminds me of the time Roseanne Barr was hired to sing The Star Spangled Banner at a baseball game, and how shocked they were when she was booed off the field. |
Gervais was outstanding...
Hollywood must get sticks out of underfed egocentric asses. Bought the soundtrack to Social Network and IMHO-the award was well deserved. Haven't seen the movie so...have no idea if any other awards were merited for it and haven't really seen ANY of the movies that won, but want to catch a few that looked interesting on the previews they showed. I thought in all: was a nice entertaining show...the half that I watched on rerun. |
