Worst Horror Films of The Past Decade
The boys over at Dread Central sat down and came up with a compilation which, for the most part, I tend to agree with.
...although it's another matter entirely that I always find some good stuff in bad films (even stinkers). 'cept of course, The Village. http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/351...r-films-decade Be warned, 4 pages of modern contemporary horror filth jump out if you click on the above. ...umm, you have been warned. |
I haven't seen the majority of those but I honestly liked Valentine, The Exorcist: The Beginning and Darkness Falls along with the Halloween remake + sequel.
|
Van Helsing and Scary Movie 2 are horror movies? Huh. Yes, I found them both pretty horrific, but I wouldn't call them horror movies as such. Although I would gladly watch Van Helsing countless times again if it meant never seeing a single from of Alone in the Dark ever again. I made it about five minutes into AitD and had to turn it off. It goes beyond being a bad, cheesy movie. Way, way beyond.

Killer Klowns is a camp classic, not really sure why you mentioned it in this thread. As far as It, a very tough novel to translate to film IMO. I definately wouldn't rank it in the worst horror movies catergory. Of course neither of these films were made in the last decade so I miss the point of your post. |
Of the movies I've seen (not that many, because they looked so dreadful) Rob Zombie's Halloween was the only one I disagreed with. I enjoyed The Happening:p, but I realize it deserves to be on that list.
One of the bigger disappointments to me from this decade had to be The Final Destination; as a fan of the other 3 films, I can't tell you how much I hated this unworthy sequel. |
Only saw Halloween: Resurrection, Scary Movie 2, and Van Helsing. Suppose I'm lucky! Glad Zombie's Halloweens didn't officially make the list.

I thought Premonition was rather cute actually. Kind of lame that the listmaker even bothered to drag in any of the Scary Movie movies, since they're obviously really bad and even more obviously not meant to be horror.
|
Of films that I saw in the cinema or got a cinema release here I got to go with THE LAST EXORCISM or HOUSE OF THE DEAD..
I enjoyed THE WICKER MAN because its such a fucking travesty (the bees scene and the Kungfu bear make it all worth it). |

Hmmm.
-My bloody valentine (2007-2008ish; I forget) -Scream 3 (2000) terrible, I prefer the previous two. & I can't wait to see Scream 4, I hope it's alright! |
Even though I have seen a number of awful movies, I guess I can consider myself lucky enough to have missed a large number of movies on this list. Though there is something to be said about how memorable bad movies can be. I guess in a choice between being remembered as a horrid director or being forgotten as a boring one I would probably prefer the former of the two choices.
One of the movies that I would have to disagree with would be See No Evil. While it wasn't one of the best horror movies I've seen I would say it is definitely a step up from Ghost Ship or Black Christmas. It contained its own sort of charm without being overbearing its set-ups or executions. Though a far a it goes, I would definitely say the worst one I've seen from this decade so far would have to be House of the Dead. It has no redeeming qualities and not even its campiness offered any real entertainment. It was really just frustrating to watch. |
Hmmmm.. I'd honestly have to say;
1) The Remake of "My Bloody Valentine" 2) Dawn of the Dead (Just, not my kind of movie) 3) Land of the Dead (Same as Dawn of the Dead, however, 1969's Night of the living dead was excellent, my kinda film.) 4) Seed of Chucky (Older ones are definately better) |

Worst horror films would definitely have to be The Grudge 2 and 3!
The first one, I loved! |
See No Evil was awesome! I thought it was one of the better horror movies of the decade..
|
The Omen remake was really bad, Lee Rimick was awesome.
|
The Remake of Nightmare on Elm Street was pretty bad. No offense to Freddy, but that wasn't the real Freddy Krueger in the remake, Just so cheap pedo imposter

I totally agree. I much would have prefered a sequel to the original franchise. |

It's easy to tell horror movies that suck nowadays. They need the following to apply for suckiness.
1. Remake 2. Rob Zombie 3. A number over 3 after the title like Saw 3 or 4 or 5 or 120 |

The Last Exorcism was very disappointing.
|
Five across the eyes - if you haven't seen it before, don't bother. How this film got commissioned I have absolutely no idea. It's films like this why some people don't understand the fascination with the horror genre.
|
Thirteen Ghosts is so early 2000's. I watched that movie when I was 11 years old and I almost crapped my pants after watching the Jackal.
I also think 6th Sense was scary, scared me for years (watched it when I was 9) even thought the movie came up in 1999 when I was 8. |
the exorcism of emily rose

I like several movies on that list. The Happening I think was entertaining, I really enjoyed the remake of the Wicker Man, Ultraviolet is just amazing, I love it, though I am not sure why it is listed as a horror movie as it really is a science fiction action flick so I guess if someone see it and expect horror they would be disappointed. Doom is a good movie in my opinion, it is one of the best computer game movies around.
And on that long list of what the author call stinkers you have movies like the Eye, Shutter, well the list go on and on with great movies which he calls bad. And he have Van Helsing as the worst horror movie of the last decade? First off all Van Helsing is not a horror movie it is fantasy action, it is not more horror than Lord of the Rings, and secondly while it is not a perfect movie it is still rather entertaining. I do not mean to offend anyone, and the author off this list certainly have the right to his opinion, but to me that list seam rather snobbish, many horror movies is a bit campish, that do not make them bad. I also do not see why everyone is so against remakes, especially with horror and science fiction remaking movies with more modern special effects often makes for good movies in my opinion, yes often a remake can not match the charm of the original, but that do not make the remakes bad. Now as for worst horror movie, well you have The Human Centerpide which I have not seen however the concept alone qualify for the top place. You have an insane scientist who kidnaps three people and surgically joins them together in a line, mouth to anus to test whatever or not human beings can survive on the well...poop off others. So the scientist run around and train his captives to crawl around and off course in the end one of them, the poor bugger at the end of the chain who have had nothing to eat for days save twice digested food get blood poisoning. The movie is just made for shock value and nothing else. The worst movie I have actually seen lately is Vampire Assassin, I could tell you the plot, but it is just a mangled mess, the effects and dialog are so bad it seams like something a few friends made over a weekend and posted on Youtube. The whole movie I just sat scratching my head that this ever got a commercial release. |
Human Centipede was highly entertaining. The Wicker Man remake was a spit in the face to the original.
|
I think the new Wicker Man movie was good, I think that when one watch a remake one have to consider it a new movie and not get offended when it vary from the original. A remake is not meant to be a copy of a older movie, but a new entity inspired by it.

Well we will have to agree to disagree on that, the movie had it's flaws but I quite enjoyed it.

I'm sorry, but if you haven't even seen it, how can you possibly comment on it? Most of what people think they know about the movie is incorrect. It's not all that graphic. There's no 2 Girls 1 Cup type action. It's campy as hell and not meant to be taken seriously at all. It is actually a fairly well done movie for what it is. |
