Top Decapitations
My lame attempt at pulling off a WickerFan stunt. So what are some of your memorable ones?
Final Destination, The Omen, Dead Alive, Friday the 13th, Friday the 13th VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan, Freddy vs Jason, Deadly Friend, Re-Animator, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, The Company of Wolves, Deep Red, Wrong Turn are some which come to mind. Any others? |
Hurray!! :D A Top list!!(My mind has burned out on list ideas for the moment)
One that immediately sprang to mind was Dario Argento's Traumahttp://dvdmedia.ign.com/dvd/image/ar...225588-000.jpg |
Trauma was a good one. Phenomena also had one at the beginning. Argento sure knew how to pull off a nicely filmed decapitation.
30 Days of Night is another. Didn't the original Dawn of the Dead have one too? Or was that Day of the Dead? |

Do head explosions count? If so, I'd like to include Scanners:http://mimg.ugo.com/200902/20530/scanners.jpg |
Pretty sure it was Day of the Dead then. A swarm of zombies pull the head off this soldier guy or something like that. Just googled it but couldn't find a pic.
Another one would be the climax of Underworld. Not exactly a complete decapitation but close. Did any of the Cube or Saw movies have one? Just remembered - Sleepy Hollow. Plenty of onscreen and implied decapitations. How about High Tension? Speaking of implied decapitations - Seven. |
A little off the top please.
A few more. Scanners, Final Destination 2? the fencing doing a job on a guy. Dead Snow. Cheers
Scanners mentioned already, I need more coffee |
Haven't watched Dead SNow yet. Any good?
Remembered some others- Hellbound: Hellraiser II, Halloween H20, Jeepers Creepers, Return of the Living Dead. Anyone know which was the first decapitation scene to be filmed in horror movies? Pretty sure it must be a classic one from the 60s or 70s. |
|
I remembered this nasty decapitating device from Machine Girl:http://www.horrorphile.net/images/th...-shimazu-1.jpg
Don't know if it's the first, but The Execution Of Mary Queen Of Scots (1895) must be pretty close.http://www-tc.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/spec...execution.jpeg |
Is that actually a movie or a documentary?
Just remembered- didn't Intruder have a nice decapitation too? |

No no I remember that one. They rip him into two pieces, not decapitate him. It was another I was referring to. Let me see if I can find it.
EDIT- http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...5268868&hl=en# |
Gosh, I hope this is not in bad taste but a few Hollywood actors were decapitated in real life, Vic Morrow on the making of the Twilight Zone movie and a actress called Jane Mansfield, shocking stuff.
|
good one involving a necklace at the end of Deep Red.
|
Toolbox Murders (2004)
Well, a man's head is sawed in half... so the top half of the head comes off, but not the bottom... |
Haven't seen that yet. Any good?

I also just remembered Spirits of the Dead (1968).
It's an anthology of 3 updated Poe stories. In Fellini's Toby Dammit sequence, there is a decapitation that happens off screen, at the end. |

Kill Bill Vol. 1:http://img.youtube.com/vi/prDCDmchtTg/0.jpg
|
It's from a Masters of Horror episode, which now reminds me I've been missing on Chiller :( and now that I'm moving wont be able to watch unless I find it online, but now I'm going off topic, back to the decapitation! http://www.mastersofhorror.nl/media/...te_burns04.jpg

what about GHOST SHIP??
|
|
this will forever be my favorite decapitation scene of all time. i know its not a horror movie, but just check it out. from tromeo and juliet.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUC5VQ6Rv6A and would u guys consider the end of riki-oh a decapitation scene? it was kind of like reverse decapitation, cuz the warden's body was turned into ground beef and he just left the head. |
Think this one could also go in the evisceration thread, the quality on the vid is poor but couldn't be arsed searching around :o
Also, this one below is from Hatchet http://media.photobucket.com/image/h...13e34.gif?o=94 |
In Wrong turn there's a scene in which the characters are stuck high in the trees of a forest in which a girl hesitates to move because she's paralyzed with fear, then suddenly the mutant is behind the tree and slashes her with a machete. Epic.
|
But I agree that the opening scene in Ghost Ship takes the cake out of the greatest beheading scenes.

Halloween: Resurrection
Jason X House on Haunted Hill Freddy vs. Jason some other Voorhees movies. |
