Ray Bradbury Theater
I used to watch Ray Bradbury Theater back in the 80s. Unfortunately, the series was kind of cheesy, so it didn't do the great Bradbury stories justice. I'd love to see these stories done again:
The Crowd The Playground The Small Assassin The Wind The Veldt The Haunting Of The New Boys, Raise Giant Mushrooms In Your Cellar! Mars Is Heaven Let's Play Poison Zero Hour What are your favorite Ray Bradbury stories? P.S. Also mentioned in a previous thread my Top 5 episodes of 5 horror TV shows (original Twilight Zone, Night Gallery, Tales Of The Unexpected, Hammer House Of Horror, and Masters Of Horror). I'd love to discuss those shows too. |
I think the series was quite well done. I enjoyed it quite a bit.
As for favorite Bradbury stories- all of them. I'm a huge Bradbury fan. I've done his story The Murderer as a performance piece a few times. For more in depth discussion, we should go to the Books forum, I think. |

I miss both Ray Bradbury Theater and Roald Dahl's Tales Of The Unexpected on TV.
Love the Dahl episode when the doctor makes the device that allows him to hear plants and trees screaming in pain. Wish I could find all of them on DVD. |

I loved both these shows, but I really thought Ray Bradbury Theater could have been done better (I guess when some of my favorite short stories are brought to the screen, I get fussy). |
Well, I was actually browsing torrent sites for them.:o But now that I'm back to work I'll check Amazon and see what I can find.

As far as TV, what about the long forgotten "Thriller" episodes. Those were truly frightening! ( La Strega, Pigeons from Hell, etc.) ~M~ |

I never got an opportunity to see Thriller on TV. I think I'll put the DVDs on my Amazon Wishlist. |

Almost every Bradbury story from Dark Carnival ( October Country ) is a masterpiece and a "must-read". A funny side note about The Lake. A friend of mine in HS and I used to have a running dispute about the opening lines to the story: He always said "They cut the sky down to my size" and I vehemently argued that it opens with "The wave shut me off from the world". Neither of us refused to budge and it wasn't til years later that I found out we were BOTH right. Bradbury had edited some of the Dark Carnival stories for October Country, and that was one of the changes he made. ~M~ |

Boris Karloff's Thriller Series
Quote:
I originally taped them in the early 1980's when they were shown on our PBS station in Beta Then when the the tapes went bad I retaped them in the mid 90's from the Sci Fi Channel and had to cut the many commercials out. A few years ago I got a bootleg DVD set whereby the shows were commercial free and recorded off the Scream channel. They were on sale like $75 ( normally $150). The picture quality was between 8.75 & 9. I have been very pleased since the picture was great and the price was right. The supernatural episodes were very scary for the time. The ones I liked best were: The Incredible Doktor Markesan ( with Karloff himself starring) The Pigeons from Hell The Hungry Glass La Strega ( I can still see that frightening witch) God Grant That She Lye Stille The Return Of Andrew Bentley Dark Legacy The Weird tailor Terror In Teakwood The Devil's Ticket The Grim Reaper The Premature Burial The Remarkable Mrs. Hawks A Wig For Mrs. Devore Trio For Terror The Cheaters Great series. rarely shown though. I understand that it is coming out in December but not by a bootlegger. Well I am very hapy with the set I got a few years back. Thought that I would share this with you. Have a good evening.:) |

However I have just played about 7 of them and so far my favorites are: The Playground ( with William Shatner) The banshee ( with Peter O'Toole) As I advance watching them I am sure that I will have more favorites. |
For those of you who were waiting for the Thriller release:
