What would you do to survive?
 

Some friends and I had this discussion the other day.

What would you do to survive?

If you were stranded on a deserted island would you eat another person to live? Would you kill another person?

If you where playing one of the Saw games could you cause harm to yourself or another to save your life?Would you have the strength and the will to overcome anything in your way?

Then we had the big question.

Would you kill a family member or a friend to live or would you scarfice yourself for them?

I like to think that I would have the power to say, saw my foot off to save my life but in practice I don't know. As for the desert island, I'd probably not kill and eat them because I know I'd need the company.

I'm a big coward. Somebody would kill me and I'd be eaten.

I'd consider eatin' somebody just to save a trip to the kitchen....

The first to die of "natural" causes would be eaten and so on and so forth. Cant say id sacrafice myself but certainly cant say id force someone else on the chopping block though.

I would do whatever it took to survive and if it came to it I would kill in order to survive plain and simple.........nothing hard about survival........you have to push to push yourself beyond what is right and wrong in your eyes and in others and do what needs to be done.Thats never been difficult for me.

I could kill a bad guy to save a good guy or save myself. Couldn't kill a good guy to save myself. Don't even think I could choose between two people I liked if only one could survive. I could deal with self harm to save my own life, that one's easy. I have an unnaturally high pain tolerance, and would be okay with being an amputee.

But could you eat yourself?

I could eat someone if they died of natural causes or something like that.I could easily kill someone to save myself.As for the self harm thing it depends on what it is.I would sacrafice myslef before I would sacrafice a loved one.

There's a real question, and ya, I think I could eat pieces of myself. I've seen my finger bones and once saw over an inch deep into my own leg. Never took a bite, but the sight does effect different people in different ways.

I think I'd try and eat dirt and bark before I started eating the fingers on my left hand. To eat much more than that would be potentially fatal without some sort of medical expertise-or at least I would imagine so.

Yes. Though I'd look for alternatives first.

Seriously, i worked in the Sacto. Co Coroner's Office quite a few years back, and we'd occasionally get in a burn victim. Before i could work on them i would always have to eat my lunch first. They smelled that enticing. i just could not work on a dead human that reminded me of a BBQ when hungry. Not sure how that would translate in a survival setting, but if i were the other person i would sleep with one eye open...

And all this talk of a desert island and eating yourself and such reminds me of a short story, I don't remember who wrote it, or what book it was in, but it was a really good story. Had to do with a surgeon smuggling heroin to make some money I think.

And on the actual topic, we could all say that we would or wouldn't, but nobody really knows. It just comes down to how much you really want to survive. And that can change with the situation. And am I starting to sound like Bear Grylls? Might have watched Man VS Wild too many times...

But there is always another option if you use your intellect. The planet is teeming with life and much of it is edible.

Whenever I hear or read these types of questions,Im always reminded of the great old quote from The world of boxing."Everybody has a plan until they get hit." Sums up how I feel pretty much.How do we know what we would do to survive such dire circumstance? We dont.

thanks, Nova - I'm just a little stressed. Many projects about to pop, but the waiting... ugh, the waiting.

I would do whatever I could to survive.

Imagination & Confrontation of this kida situation in reality are totally different things. So I'm not sure how far I can go under those circumstances.

But in case of extremely harsh situations of hunger I think it'd be better to escape & leaving everything & everyone behind and trying to get some help. At least then there would be no chance of getting eaten by others. Although I have already tasted my blood in several occasions... and it tastes good;) (just kidding...believe me:D)

Id advise you all to watch the fuck out. I would eat you all
