Horror Based Anime

Does anyone know of any horror based anime, the ones that I'd consider 'horror based' are:

Blood: The Last Vampire
Blood+ (the sequel to BtLV)

Vampire Hunter D
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (the sequel to VHD)

Granted both of those are about vampires, and really the only horror based anime I know of as they are the only ones I've seen, well except Blood+ as I've never seen it.

Check out Perfect Blue and Little Petshop of Horrors, there's many more I could suggest but all my thought processes have encountered a fatal error. Please reboot.

Check out all of Hellsing.

Oh God. Long list coming your way. I have found so many while looking for my mystery anime. Not necessarily horror but for sure gorey! * are suggested watches.

Akira*
Berserk
Blood Reign
Boah
Demon City
Elfen Lied*
Genocyber (Oh dear god this one is ugh)
Karas (haven't seen this one, but I want to)
Kite (also just one I have heard great things about)
Ninja Scroll*
Sin (not as gorey, but kind of horror/cyberpunk)
Violence Jack (One scene with a chainsaw, awesome!)
Wicked City
X

Or If you are into Manga

Battle Royale
Ichi the Killer
and most of the listed anime are manga as well.
oh and Tomie (like the Jhorror)

Demon City
Elfen Lied*
Genocyber
Karas (seen it, but not the sequel)

Ninja Scroll* (seen it)
Sin (not as gorey, but kind of horror/cyberpunk)
Violence Jack (One scene with a chainsaw, awesome!)
Wicked City (seen it)
X (seen it, but not the TV series that came after it, or Tokyo Babylon which X is a remake of)

I've seen Battle Royale which is based on the book which I read, not the manga which I've also read. I do plan on seeing Ichi the Killer, and I've heard of Tomie.

I'd rather watch anime, I tend not to read manga.

Where's Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend? graphic and goes for the jugular anime that started the whole demon tentacle hentai trend.

mlauzon 02-02-2010 03:38 PM

Not a fan of hentai.

HarryCanyon 02-11-2010 09:05 PM

Well Urotsukidoji is more then hentai, it's a very Clive Barker/Rob Zombie-like mind trip into the apocalypse and will blow your mind. Do you think hentai gives anime a bad name?

mlauzon 02-11-2010 11:54 PM

It's still hentai, and I am not interested in watching cartoons have sex.

Resident evil
Dead Space
Fear's of the dark (Not seen it tho, but looks/sounds very interesting)

And if you're into extreme gory violence check out "Fist of the north star".

I've seen:

Resident Evil: Degeneration
Dead Space: Downfall

Never heard of:

Peur(s) du noir

Scarebaby 02-16-2010 03:49 AM

Elfen Lied, has some of you have already pointed out. It's very cute but very bloody and violent.
I like anime but regretfully am not that familiar with it yet, so I'll be sure to look up some of the ones you guys listed!
