Post-Apocalyptic Survival Horror
 

I just watched Carriers, thought it was pretty cool. I also like 28 Days/Weeks Later, Doomsday... The Road and The Book of Eli both look good and I'll be checking them out when they hit DVD.

What are some other films that fall in to this sub-genre that are already available on DVD?

And please, don't list zombie movies. I love them, but I've alerady seen the majority of them.

A Boy and His Dog and The Dark Backward are both great flicks, might not fit exactly what you're looking for but give em' a chance.

Hard to find too many post-apocalyptic horror flicks but there are some really superb post-A sci-fi films which are essential must-watches - Silent Running and Logan's Run are two which come immediately to mind, both of which are my faves.

I m sure Elvis and Zwoti will chip in with plenty of recs also.

The Quiet Earth (1985). i am not sure that i'd call this horror, but it was definitely one of the best post apocalyptic sci-fi movies that i have ever seen. Late.

As Imentioned in Chrono's thread on this same subject, a personal favorite of mine is Blood of Heroes with Rutger Hauer, Joan Chen & Vincent D'Onofrio.

radioactive dreams - totally indie 80s crap but a great premise for a film

also six string samurai - also cheap but hilarious (if you are in the right mood)

Terminator: Salvation

* Road Warrior - My dad showed this to me when I was wee, so it has a special place in my heart. Say what you will about silly leather-clad survivor stereotypes, that movie is a HELL of a lot of fun, fantastic, and great.
* 28 Weeks Later - I actually liked this better than the first one; I really liked the post-apocalyptic world that was created by the outbreak and how it creates a pure human horror.
* Planet of the Apes (1968) - Obviously a CLASSIC. Also shown to me when I was wee.
* Matrix - This was really the first movie that made me identify with a coward. Quite frankly, I'm with the guy who would rather stay in the Matrix than unplug into the real world... Though I wouldn't necessarily rat out humankind to do so.
* Land of the Dead - Not my favorite zombie movie, by ANY means, but like I said, I geek out over post-apocalyptic stuff. Love seeing the distopic landscape.
* Blade Runner - While not necessarily post-apocalyptic, I lump it into the genre because it DOES display a distopic future, which is a concept that post-apocalyptic movies definitely play into. I might lump The Crow and Dark City into this category too.
* Resident Evil - Like Land of the Dead, I don't necessarily like the movies as a whole, but I like the world that they create - I'm more interested in taking on the role of Alice and just letting myself go with it. It's how I feel about Terminator: Salvation. Some people here have said that it's an unnecessary sequel. I don't care. I just like seeing the distopic concepts; the robots taking over the water, for example since humans need water.
* A Boy and his Dog - Been a while since I've seen this one, but FANTASTIC.
* Night of the Comet - Post-apocalypse in the IMMEDIATE future... Overlooked classic.

Nah... if you liked utter shit like those flicks I doubt there's anything I could recommend you to watch that you'd like.

And if you thought any of those were utter shit, then you are probably right because I'd be inclined to think your taste in movies sucks.

Doomsday I found almost unwatchable.

Bwind - You might like Feast II and III - While the first one is a siege film, the second and third are more post-apocalyptic... I wasn't a huge fan (because I LOVED the first one), but you might dig them.

Yep, I've seen all the feast films. Very strange trilogy. Splattery gore, lots of funny bits, but in general, bad plots.

That's not out over in the Uk yet? It's been out here for months. It'll probably be available on DVD in a month or two.

In any event, I don't think any of the Feast films really fall in to the Post-Apocalyptic Survival Horror category.
