The Comic-to-Movie Adaptation Tournament
The last few years have seen some really good adaptations being released and hailed by the ardent comic fans. But how do they stack up against some of the all-time classics of the late 70s and late 80s? Let's find out.
Keeping this tourney strictly to mainstream stuff, I have narrowed it down to 81 selections. That's right - a short-and-sweet tourney. No animated direct-to-dvd ones (just to keep the apples/oranges comparisons out, sorry Massacre Man), or made for TV movies. There are very few exceptions which deserve to be in this (Superman and the Mole Men, for example), and so have been included. I am still open to suggestions for last minute inclusions. Hopefully I didnt forget any summer blockbusters - if I did then apologies in advance. First match in a bit... |

Bulletproof Monk
|
Mystery Men
Can we wait until Kick Ass comes out? ;) |
Mystery Men
|
I'll go with The Mask
|
The Mask.
Great effects for its age, adecent storyline, good music, scantilly clad Cameron Diaz back when she was super hot, and it can still make me laugh to this day. |

Yah, but was there ever a greater superhero than THE SPLEEN???
|
Mystery Men.

The Mask
Will Batman: Mask of the Phantasm be in this? It was animated but was released to the theaters. |
The Mask.
Cool tourney, V! |

Iron Man 2, on the other hand... Quote:

5-3-1, The Mask fends off a pretty strong challenge from Mystery Men to advance. |
|
Batman Returns!
I still need to see the new TMNT though, looks pretty decent. |
Masters of the Universe.
|
Batman Returns
Probably my least favorite non-Schumacher Batman adaptation. But still a good, fun movie. |
Batman Returns
although I didn't hate Masters.....kinda fun and my son was big into the action figures. |
Batman returns.
Yeah, TMNT wasn't bad return, don't expect much though...I mean it was better than the third "old" film. |
I have a fondness for Masters of the Universe, but I'll vote Batman Returns. Danny DeVito was great. And it had Paul Rubens and Chris Walken.
|
5-1-0, Batman Returns blows the competition away in a hurry.

Was not aware The Fountain was based on a comic...always thought it was the other way around. Either way, it's got my vote for sure.

What is good in life?
Conan! |
Conan.....
|
I thought Conan was based on Robert E. Howard's stories....

They say that the new Conan movie (should it see light) will be more heavily influenced off of the original Howard source material. The newer comic series seems to be doing a decent job of keeping in line with it as well. I enjoy both sets of mythos, although I'm not thrilled at the idea of Conan in early America (late Howard addition to the mythos) I always hoped for a good Conan the King movie starring Arnie, but I don't see it coming to fruition. |

CONAN |
Another vote for The Fountain
|
conan......
|
Conan... I thought that The Fountain was self-absorbed and overrated.
|
7-2-0, Conan destroys The Fountain and The Shadow.
|
|
Watchmen :D
|
Watchmen FTW... Oh, wait, this is Round 1...
|
I wanted to give Supergirl my vote but Watchmen was just way too cool.
|
I'm one of the few folks around that didn't hate the Fantastic Four movies...but it still can't live up to Watchmen.
Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? |
I'm only voting for Watchmen because I dont like the other ones.I think Watchmen is way over rated.
|
I agree with Freak, dont like the others but I still think Watchmen is overrated.
