VampiricClown 12-10-2007 12:34 PM

Silent Night, Bloody Night

Christmas Evil

Gremlins

Silent Night, Deadly Night

Black Christmas

Just getting ya'll started. ;)

Roderick Usher 12-10-2007 01:08 PM

Profondo Rosso starts with a Christmas scene

Doc Faustus 12-10-2007 01:13 PM

Don't Open Til Christmas is pretty cool. Santa Claus Conquers the Martians is also a classic. Can't go wrong with that one

joshaube 12-10-2007 03:18 PM

Santa's Slay is one that hasn't been mentioned, which I'd recommend for fans of cheese. And with Christmas themed horror, what else is there? (Minus the excellent Black Christmas...)

While not horror related, another great Christmas-ish cheese film is The Hebrew Hammer.

Santa's Slay was a decent movie actually. It was corny, but come on, who can't enjoy seeing people getting slaughtered to Christmas music!?

ManchestrMorgue 12-10-2007 10:02 PM

Tales from the Crypt (the Amicus anthology) has one of its stories set at Christmas (the one with Joan Collins in it).

I too enjoyed Santa's Slay. It was corny as hell, but I had fun. I mean, how can you not have fun watching Bill Goldberg killing Fran Drescher?

As for a christmas horror movie, Jack Frost has yet to be mentioned.

Disease 12-12-2007 03:57 AM

The Nightmare before Christmas.....

I'm going to see it in 3D on Friday night.

You really should. I haven't seen to many movies in recent memory that were this fun. Especially as far as holiday movies go.

The Mothman 12-12-2007 03:21 PM

i thought santa's slay was tons of fun. threw a whole bunch of offensive humor in there too.
has anyone seen Jack Frost 2?

Ooo, Good call... Can I come?

Possibly one of my favorite Christmas movies, by far.

Other Christmas horror movies:

Black Christmas. Honestly, I've only seen the remake, which I thought was decent... I'm Netflixing the original as I type.

...

I second Gremlins (I love the speech that she makes)...

Quote:

The worst thing that ever happened to me was on Christmas. Oh, God. It was so horrible. It was Christmas Eve. I was 9 years old. Me and Mom were decorating the tree, waiting for Dad to come home from work. A couple hours went by. Dad wasn't home. So Mom called the office. No answer. Christmas Day came and went, and still nothing. So the police began a search. Four or five days went by. Neither one of us could eat or sleep. Everything was falling apart. It was snowing outside. The house was freezing, so I went to try to light up the fire. That's when I noticed the smell. The firemen came and broke through the chimney top. And me and Mom were expecting them to pull out a dead cat or a bird. And instead they pulled out my father. He was dressed in a Santa Claus suit. He'd been climbing down the chimney... his arms loaded with presents. He was gonna surprise us. He slipped and broke his neck. He died instantly. And that's how I found out there was no Santa Claus.
...

BRILLIANT.

...

And I think the original Die Hard deserves a mention, though not horror per say, it IS an atypical Christmas movie.

...

I tried to Netflix Silent Night, Deadly Night, but it doesn't seem to be in the database.

crabapple 12-12-2007 06:30 PM

"Santa's Slay" actually had some redeeming things about it. Fun, light pseudo-horror entertainment.

The original is a great film. You won't regret it.

I have it, but haven't watched it.

Disease 12-13-2007 07:42 AM

Damn it!

Gremlins is on early Saturday night and I have to work.....

crabapple 12-13-2007 09:11 AM

Yes, definitely.......Die Hard certainly deserves a mention here because technically, it is a Christmas film. Not your usual one, certainly!

It would be a very twisted thing to watch on Christmas day. I generally watch a George Romero zombie flick, myself. It's tradition.

I know.....I've been meaning to watch it forever, and finally got around to trying to add it, not there. And yes, definitely watch the original Black Christmas as soon as possible. A damn fine horror film. The remake is shameful, shameful I say! Haha....;)

Oh and we had lots of fun with Santa's Slay as well, just watched it a few weeks ago.

haha I always watch die hard around christmas. It's one of the only movies that involved an exploding helicopter that I actually like, Bruce Willis > .

Yellow Jacket 12-13-2007 11:21 AM

For all of those who want to see Silent Night, Deadly Night, go to filmhill.com. They have tons of movies to watch there (I watched Bad Taste and Dr. Giggles on that site). I have seen SNDN, but years ago when my local blockbuster had a copy to rent. Just thought I could help.

Jax 12-17-2007 06:05 PM

What are your top christmas themed horror movies?

My top 7:

1. Black Christmas (1974)
2. Gremlins
3. Silent Night Deadly Night
4. Christmas Evil (a.k.a. You Better Watch Out).
5. Night of the Comet
6. Tales from the Crypt (1972)

joshaube 12-17-2007 06:47 PM

You got number one right.

SodaGirl 11-23-2009 07:37 PM

Christmas themed Horror Movies?

I am wondering what the best Christmas or winter themed horror movies are. I love Christmas and I love horror, but I'm just not sure what's out there.

Thanks so much!

(I am sure there have been threads on this and I did try searching, but didn't find any)

Doc Faustus 11-23-2009 11:29 PM

I like Don't Open Til Christmas. I found Silent Night, Deadly Night disappointing and unfun.

Ferox13 11-23-2009 11:50 PM

Christmas Evil is really great..

Silent Night, Deadly Night 2 is amazingly stupidly great.....

I love the Tales from the Crypt with the Psycho and the Santa Suit..

Gremlins one is set at Xmas too..

Penance has a great scene of Christmas joy by the ol' Yule tree.

I wish it had more of a sense of humor. I thought it took itself way too seriously. I like the premise, I like the kills, but I wish it had been a bit lighter.

Elvis_Christ 11-25-2009 05:35 PM

I don't know if I'd say it took itself way too seriously. I think its intent was to be nasty and over the top (something I love about 80s slashers). Did you see the shitstorm it caused upon release in the doco Going To Pieces?

YES.

Hands down my favorite slasher. Ever.

Night of the Comet sorta counts, though it's more New Year's Themed... One of my favorite zombie movies.

There's always Gremlins and Nightmare Before Christmas.

AmericanIdiot 11-26-2009 06:07 PM

There is a christmas celebration in the film Mum and Dad.
