Fake blood suggestions - Will be used to stain clothes
 

Hey guys,

So for Halloween I want to go as an evil Alice in Wonderland. My plan is to purchase an Alice costume and white rabbit and stain both of them in blood. I'm just not sure what I should use... Should I use something like what's being pitched as "fake blood":

Or should I use classic corn syrup and red dye... OR should I use just plain red dye... Or should I use red paint? Or maybe red nail polish? lol

I want something that'll actually set in the stain and won't be sticky or goopy afterwards... I figured that most of you have done the fake-blood-on-clothes thing before, so I was hoping that you'd be ready with suggestions.

I would guess paint and mix it to that dark clotted red colour (maybe use 2 hues of red) - alot of other things might look a lot different when they dry..

Good idea for a costeume too.

I like your suggestion of just using dye. Like the kind you use for tie dye. You would have to soak it in vinegar to make sure it doesnt run in the washing machine and turn your whole costume pink. Then you wash to get the vinegar smell out. cold water though so it sets.

Then maybe splatter a bit of paint over that so it looks more like you just killed someone?

Paint will look shiny and fake.

Use dye. Paint or splatter it on, let it dry, then iron it. No need to wash it for a one day affair.

Unless you use an ultra flat or a tinted primer. .






Good idea with the dye though NE, you can mix some bright red with some scarlet and get a good color. Use the powdered RIT dye, it's a lot better to work with IMO. Vinegar works like MM said but rubbing alcohol or acetone in the mix produces a brighter more intense color in my experience. Pics!

Definitely good to know - I was leaning toward paint, but now I'll look into dyes. I'm going to a craft store on Tuesday to see what they have. I'll probably wind up picking up both and to the mix, like MM suggested. I'm actually pretty damn psyched about this!!

I assume that the dye would look good on the stuffed rabbit too, eh?

I actually mentioned yer idea to my GF and she thought it was amazing - i was saying it would be cool if you had a bunch of ppl all dressed as evil Alice in Wonderland characters..

I recommend blood.

I like acrylic paint for staining clothing/fabrics, myself...

I'll get a nice dark cherry red in a tube or bottle at the art store, remember these dry a shade and a half darker than the paint appears when wet. I'll get a dark blue or black also, this is to darken the color if it dries too bright.

Once you have the color you like, thin it with water into a soupy consistency--not too much water, or the color will not be vivid enough.

For a splattery effect, you can fling it on with a paintbrush--or dampen the bristles of a stiff brush and flick your fingers across these, allowing the droplets of paint to make fine flecks.

You can also drip and smear the paint on with rubber gloves.

Just allow it to soak in and dry, and you're good to go!

And crabby aught to know!

Take to piss flaps with kkkraft knives.

Thanks, Crabby. I didn't take into account that it would dry darker. Will definitely look for more of a cherry red than the brick red that I was planning on.

Oh. Eww. I get it now.

Back when I used to dye my hair, I used the dark deep red shades. I sware that stuff looked like a bloody crime scene sometimes. Its got a dark color to it, and some shades even have the 'browning' tinge to them that blood takes on as it coagulates. Its a suggestion. It does stain, even skin, though it does wash off eventually.

Good luck, and post pics, I have to see what you look like in your costume.
