Halloween Costumes 09

Christmas comes earlier and earlier each year, so why not Halloween?
I tend to plan out my costume a few months in advance.

What about you guys? Anyone have any awesome costumes picked out or in the works?

bloody_ribcut 08-15-2009 11:10 AM

im thinking of creating a pyramid costume, with one eye at the top bleeding.

novakru 08-15-2009 11:10 AM

Female ninja with some style
(black catsuit, black boots, black leather bustier and my sword strapped to my back and my sai strapped to my thighs.)

maybe...

and there's the chick-ful-a cowsuit I've been eyeing.

donno
tough choices this year

Almost got a job as a butcher, I planned on wearing a pig mask and bloody apron to work one Halloween, but it never went through.

I'm thinking of making a Sgt. Kabukiman costume this year haha.

Seriously, Nova - I demand pics!!!

...

I don't know if we're going to have a Halloween party to wear them to this year... Then again we could always HOST one, though our apartment is very wee...

I've had this plan for a couple of years now where my boyfriend and I would go together as "hentai;" I would be a Japanese school girl and he would be a masked tentacle monster... but he's started falling out of love with the tentacle monster idea...

I'm going through a complete and utter vampire fixation lately. I might invest in a decent pair of fangs and white makeup and just sex myself up (I have a nice latex bodice that would work nicely).

nightmare_of _death 08-15-2009 05:33 PM

I had a costume planned....but so far I have nothing for my costume...so I was... or still am depending on if I get everything for it.. Columbia from The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and a small group of friends were or still are going as other characters from the film too. :) I think we also have it planned to go see it in theaters. If the costume doesn't pull through not sure what I'll dress as.

cheebacheeba 08-15-2009 05:36 PM

I was a zombie last year which involved some latex stuff, and colouring, destroying a shirt, and a fair bit of fake blood.

This year, if we do it...I'm thinking about either facial stitching, or some kind of plating, with colouring/flesh surfacing around it.

newb 08-15-2009 08:35 PM

Ferox13 08-16-2009 12:28 AM

I think I'll do the Droog thing again.

_____V_____ 08-16-2009 12:30 AM

Who's the guy in the Predator outfit, Newb? Or is it a replica?

Pretty cool pics.

I was a droog a few years ago. The Addicts had a Halloween show, it was rad.

fortunato 08-16-2009 01:49 PM

I'm putting together a Hallowe'en party this year with some friends at their house, and I'll be going as:

http://laist.com/attachments/la_lisab/log2.jpg

I'll need to find a good wig.

And - more importantly - a good log!

Awesome idea though man...very cool.

hacelikewhoa 08-16-2009 04:27 PM

I didn't get to dress up last year, or go anywhere for that matter, but this halloween I'll be 21 so I'll have to think of something. I'm ready to have some fun.

Thanks !
And oh yes, definitely a good log. The search has already begun.

The costume isn't complicated, but I want to make sure to get every detail right.

Shauna The Dead 08-16-2009 09:59 PM

not sure what I'll be but my daughter is gonna be a skeleton. I already have her costume.

Actually I think I'm going to get an Alice in Wonderland costume and be an evil Alice... I like that idea...

And J - The Log Lady costume is AWESOME.

Newb - Love the pics.

I'm following in The Return's footsteps and going as Comic Book Joker.

Which reminds me, because I did need to ask, have you got any tips for applying the make up? Like is there a best order to do it i.e. Red then white then black?

For Joker, I would do red first so you have a bit of an outline to work with, then do white, then black, touch up as needed.
I may not be an expert, but I do carry a pack of theater makeup in my car...just in case. :p

Haha, thanks :)

Do you have any tips for applying the white. Usually I just spread it with my hands but I think sponging it on my work better. What do you think?

Roderick Usher 08-18-2009 12:43 PM

my 12 year-old is going to be Candyman. My wife is making the fur-collar coat and I'm contructing the hook.

I've only seen this in films so forgive me if it's wrong, but don't American kids get to go to school in the costumes.

God your kid must be popular.

Oh, and a side note while I'm close enough to the subject: are many of the kids at your kid's school related to people in the industry? That would be soooooo cool.

bloody_ribcut 08-18-2009 02:14 PM

to the costume in school question....

when i attended we were able to wear our costume to an extent, but no masks.

i wore a wig.

I like to cake white on my cheeks and forehead then spread it around with my fingers and a sponge, you can see where you need to blend better that way IMO.

My kids go to catholic school so, no, they don't.
But at most public schools here- it's allowed.

Do your kids go trick or treating after school?

And also, I've seen this in films as well, so it might be wrong, but do American kids tend to leave early. Like, before it gets dark?

Roderick Usher 08-19-2009 09:07 AM

It depends on the neighborhood, some paranoid communities think kids will be somehow "at risk" if they go out at night, so they trick-or-treat during the late afternoon.

I'd never trick or treat with my kids until after dark.

our kids have a costume parade at school, but they are encouraged to change into their costume for the parade (at the end of the day) and not wear their costume all day long as it causes quite a classroom distraction.

And yeah, there are quite a few industry families in my kid's school. The prop guys and set-builder dads always help me construct the school's haunted house... which I need to start planning:o

Yeh, that's the way it should be done. I can understand being worried about the kids safety, but the parents should be taking them out themselves if they're quite young. What happened to quality time with the kids?

Trick or treating is town curfewed from 6pm to 8pm. We live in an awesome neighborhood to troop around though and almost all the houses go all out with the decorating and candy.

Wow, I'm sorry, why?

novakru 08-19-2009 06:23 PM

Cause I live in a tiny, red-neck, small-minded, morons rule, inbred, fucked up beyond belief- town.

I'm planning my escape...shhh:D

That's the hours for my neighborhood too, though on the Friday before Halloween all of the shops will have special Halloween open houses in the afternoon and kids can parade and get free goodies from the shops. It's pretty friggin adorable.

I live in a tiny redneck town as well, but it's run by....mormons.....*shudder*

so they are pretty trustworthy.
