The True North, Strong and Free...

Happy Canada Day folks!

I know we've got a nice selection of Canucks around here...any big celebrations going down? I think I'm just going to chill tonight and maybe try to catch the fireworks with some friends.

How about you guys?

Canada Day is essentially the Northern equivilent of the Independence Day.

I'll spare the full history lesson...long story short, it's Canada's birthday :)

Happy Canada Day!

Due to budget cuts in almost every city around here there isn't much going on. No festivals, no fireworks, no cake. We did have a food festival over the weekend though.

Today I am going to have a picnic with my boyfriend at the park. The menu will probably include soda crackers and flat pop, since we're both getting over the flu.:D Then probably home for a nap. We go all out on holidays.

But isn't England still your sovereign?

Frequently referred to as "Canada's birthday", particularly in the popular press, the occasion marks the joining of the British North American colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province of Canada into a federation of four provinces (the Province of Canada being divided, in the process, into Ontario and Quebec) on 1 July 1867. Although Canada is regarded as having become a kingdom in its own right on that date, the British Parliament kept limited rights of political control over the new country that were shed by stages over the years until the last vestiges were surrendered in 1982 when the Constitution Act patriated the Canadian constitution.

Happy Canada Day.
Every time I've been to Canada, it's been nothing but the most pleasant.
