Donnie Darko 2
May 9, 2008
Cult classic Donnie Darko – the film that catapulted Jake Gyllenhaal to fame, re-ignited interest in Tears for Fears and made sinister bunny suits de rigeur for Halloween – is about to get the sequel treatment. According to Screen Daily, Chris Fischer (Nightstalker, Rampage: The Hillside Strangler Murders) will direct the sequel, to be called S. Darko. Richard Kelly, writer-director of the original, will apparently not be involved, although Fisher said in a statement, "I am a great admirer of Richard Kelly's film and hope to create a similar world of blurred fantasy and reality." Picking up seven years after the original, the plot will follow Donnie's sister Samantha on a road trip to Los Angeles, during which she is plagued by a series of bizarre visions. Daviegh Chase will reprise her role as Darko the younger, while Ed Westwick (Son of Rambow), Briana Evigan (Step Up 2) and Justin Chatwin (Dragon Ball) will also star. S. Darko is set to start shooting on May 18 with a budget of around $10m. |
The single worst idea I have ever heard. Exorcist 2 anybody? Take out the people that made the original fantastic and it will never even come close.
The idea of some b-movie director taking it over makes me sick to my ass. |
the 's' stands for 'straight to video'

No, the S stands for Sucks.

Oh my God..... This has got to be the worst thing i've ever heard in my entire life. Donnie Darko... 2? How do you make a sequel to that? You can't! This is beyond *bullshit*. This is the end all... Fucking hell.

s.darko?
"S. Darko[1] is an upcoming 2009 sequel to Donnie Darko. It is directed by Chris Fisher. S. Darko follows Samantha Darko, the younger sister of Donnie, the protagonist of Donnie Darko, and her friend Corey. On their way to Los Angeles, their car breaks down, forcing them to wait in a small town until it is fixed. While there, Samantha begins to have dreams that warn her of the end of the universe.
S. Darko is set to be released on April 28, 2009, on DVD and Blu-ray.[2]" Wikipedia Now, I don't know how many of you would even give this a second look, and I'm not even sure why I did, but there seems to be some kind of attraction to this. What I really want to know, besides why this movie needed a sequel (They want money hurr hurr no $#!7), is why do most movies need these DVD sequels. I know the income can be decent, but in the long run wouldn't it be more profitable to do something new and better? |
I dont understand how a stand alone film like Donnie Darko warrants a sequel.
No matter what tenuous links they may maintain to the first, if they had a decent enough story why not just run it as an individual film? Really enjoyed Donnie Darko so it would be a shame if a straight to DVD 'sequel' tarnishes it. |
Well, production value isn't all that bad, but the issue lies within the development of the story. I don't see character flaws, but interaction and acting are at a loss in the trailer. Best to youtube it if you want to see. I don't know in the long run myself, I just know I'll watch it at least once.

|
I thought this was already out? Perhaps it was leaked, heard it is awful anyways.
