Something big is coming to DC this summer on July 15th.

Most comic book fans are aware that a huge event, Blackest Night, is coming this July. Over the past months, mostly through DC Direct action figure solicit information, readers have learned the identities of several Black Lantern Corps members.

They're really psyched about this on the Wizard forums. Justifiably so, because Geoff Johns has been doing really good stuff with the Green Lantern Corps.

Maybe you can begin to piece together the members of the undead Black Lantern Corps.

DC's news blog has steadily been releasing profile pages of the various Lantern Corps in the DC Universe. And now we're able to debut the profile page for the Black Lanterns. Best of all... you can see pieces of costumes!

A three issue mini-series, Blackest Night: Batman will explore the effects of the Black Lantern Corps on the protectors of Gotham. That obviously seems to suggest someone is coming back from the dead... but who? Bruce Wayne, as most readers know, is alive and well in the ancient past of the DC Universe. So who will terrorize the city? Some have speculated Bruce's shell of a body could become reanimated... but no one at DC is talking. Regardless, intergalactic zombies will soon be at the doorstep of a new Batman and Robin. No doubt a threat of this magnitude will be their first major test.


Blackest Night #0 was released May 2, 2009 as a part of Free Comic Book Day.

Blackest Night #1, by Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis, is scheduled to hit stores on July 15, 2009.

My guesses.

Looks like a decent event...after the last shitty crisis finally wrapped up it'll be nice to have a change. Tha Black Lantern thing has been a bit of an underlying story for a while now, the whole "lantern wars" is getting a bit old, this should close it nicely.

Looks like DC's solid answer to Marvel Zombies. And with the entire DC rooster thrown at this one, it promises to kick some serious ass. The Green Lantern Corps saga is all ready to get a much-needed boost.

I heard that that the Batman event is about Dick facing The Flying Graysons.

I was pretty annoyed that Dick got the cowl. Lazy writing. He doesn't have anything to learn.

But there could be a lot of potential in Damian as Robin.

Maybe so, but I was hoping for Tim showing Damian the ropes or Jason Todd struggling for redemption. And I feel kind of cheated because in a future scenario in one of the Teen Titans trades it showed Tim as Batman.

I think Grant Morrison put Todd off limits. I'm still under the suspicion that Jason Todd was the Satan Batman that Damian fought in Issue #666.

And I'm quite looking forward to seeing Tim Drake in the new Red Robin comic.

That's quite possible. The Red Robin comic will be cool, but I think Tim with the cowl would have been better. Maybe eventually DC won't ignore the continuity posited in the Titans thing or the fact that Dick had an adult hero identity. I would have liked to have seen Dick turn it down for a similar reason Hawkeye turned down Cap's shield.

I kind of really wanted it to be todd, hell, even Hush would have been better IMO...but I'm all good either way, it's not as though wayne won't be back within a couple years anyway, right?

This promises to be so cool. DC are having a fairly good run of original ideas recently, and Blackest Night would be the topping on the cake.
