How are you defining Modern (Salem's Lot is nearly 30years old)?

I liked some of the Species series after number 2.

Romero's Martin

Vampire in Venice is good (as in the Nosferatu remake)

The Jose Larraz film Vampyres

Frightnight

Shadow of the Vampire had a great twist on Nosferatu.

If u dig naked space vampires then Lifeforce is recommended.

Alot of ppl liked Nightwatch (i wasn't mad about it)

Monster squad has Dracula in it.

Sundown: The Vampire In Retreat isn't bad at all (cheesey fun)

Thirst (the Ozzie flick)

i could not help but include Salem's Lot since it was the first vampire movie that scared me, but i am leaning for some more current releases. My bad. Thanks for the list, i'll have ta check them out.

Since the late 90's, the only ones I've liked are:
Let the Right One In (loved it...an instant classic)
Habit (ultra grim Larry Fessenden film, in the vein of Romero's Martin)
Shadow of the Vampire (highly recommended, especially for Nosferatu fans)
Frostbitten (decent Swedish vampire flick......)
30 Days of Night (extremely flawed, but it has it's definite charms)
Dracula: Pages from a Virgins Diary (Guy Madden....Dracula ballet, you'll either love it or hate it)

Overall, the Vampire genre has stunk the past decade or so (unless you love
the action film versions (Underworld, Blade) or the Teen romance versions
(Twilight..etc).........

Anybody here like the Addiction? I haven't seen it, but I love Abel Ferrara.

I know I'm gonna get flamed for this but I enjoyed the Blood Rayne films.

The Addiction is quite different from other Ferrara films, imo. A slow, introspective, sometimes violent case study in addictive behavior using vampirism as a metaphor.

You can get Nadja for pretty damn cheap so you might as well keep it around. It's a curiosity to show friends. Peter Fonda is Dracula. That's worth six bucks.

The Hunger is a classic but ageless as well.

The Subspecies chain from Full Moon productions is worth a look, I loved them- corny and all.

Vamp

Modern vamp flix seems to me IMHO not so good...and vampires used to be my favorite horror of all.
I think the eighties really did the vampire genre justice.

fright night for me.

Let The Right One In was one of the best vampire movies I seen in a long while. I liked 30 Days of Night but I didnt think it was anything groundbreaking.

Ghoulie Newmar 04-06-2009 04:04 PM

anything but twilight.

Zero 04-09-2009 06:48 AM

i'd say let the right one in (i'm still in love with that film) and Near Dark (love, love, love that film)

best one i think is bloodraine:cool:

stenchofdeath 04-16-2009 03:27 AM

My faves

30 Days of night
Interview with the vampire
Near dark
The Vampyres
Dracula has risen from the grave

Cheetara101 04-25-2009 03:16 AM

My favorite:
Interview With A Vampire
Underworld

I think that "Queen Of The Damned" could have been a great film if they took it seriously and provided a better cast, bigger budget. As far as I'm concerned, they made a mockery of Anne Rice's tale.

I haven't seen BloodRaine yet. I must check it out soon.
