You know what? FUCK Bioshock.

I downloaded it off of steam, and it absolutely refuses to work. I've spent 2 days trying to make this fucking trash load, and it won't. I get the same "Bioshock.exe has stopped working" message before I see so much as a game screen. I spent hours on forums downloading patches and updating direct x and every other goddamn solution they had, and nothing worked. I just emailed steam demanding a refund. Fuck that shit. I was really looking forward to it too.

Angra 03-14-2009 01:04 PM

Considered buying it?

I did. You buy games off Steam. It's a legit program... Not a scam. I've been running HL2 off it for years with no problems, so this is just bullshit.

Oh... sorry...

Buy it

That being said i agree with the title ot this thread.

Sure it's original. It takes place under water. The music score is damn great and really sets the atmosphere. But other than that.... Its repetitive as hell, the horror elements in it is very, very minor. And where the hell are all the bosses? It's pretty much the same happening from start to finnish.

I'm not saying it's a bad game at all, i'm just baffled about all the hype about it.

Posher778 03-14-2009 01:24 PM

I'm more pissed off about all the wasted hours this weekend. I tried really hard to make it work. I downloaded it 3 times. That's 21 hours of downloading and uninstalling just to make this fucking game play like it's supposed to. Deeply disappointed.

Sounds like MY problems with Cubase these last 2 weeks. Irritating as hell yes.

Each room can play out differently based on how you approach it. Also, you have a VERY narrow sense of what is and isn't horror and I'm not at all surprised you wouldn't include genetic manipulation and science gone awry as horror. The limitations of the game are definitely increased if you don't approach the game in interesting ways. I had a hell of a time trying to get Bioshock running on any machine without Direct X 10, I just decided to get it on the 360.

True. When it comes to horror i'm not very open minded.

My philosohy is this:

If you have to analyze something to find the horror in it, it's not horror.

Look at the surface, you can kill little girls with glowing eyes to gain power that allows you to fuck monsters up. I don't think that requires much analyzing.

Hey asshead, how about a spoiler warning?

You dumb cunt, it's not a spoiler, it's in the fucking manual and beginning of the game. I'll fucking kill you... girl.

I didn't say there wasn't any horror in it. I just said it contained very, very little of it. I would say the same about the "F.e.a.r" games.

X¤MurderDoll¤X 03-15-2009 01:52 AM

I played the demo, I thought it was pretty lame.

Azazel005 03-15-2009 02:36 AM

All this does indeed piss me off as well. I mean for fucks sake you have someone who has paid for a game and should have no problems from their. It's fucking borderline theft. I know computers can be funny things but as far as I am concerned you don't offer to sell someone something that you aren't a hundred percent sure will work with minimal hassles.

All in the name of fucking copy protection, it's enough for me to want to just steal the fucking things.

Posher778 03-15-2009 06:51 AM

In other news, I got it to work, after hours more of struggle. Great opening... Sloppy controls. Very laggy. This game bit off too much and isn't even close to expectations so far. I think the only reason i'm playing is cause Mr. Bubbles is so cute.

Agreed.

I hated shooting those things as i found Mr Bubbles and the little girl damn adorable together. Made me feel evil and dirty..

Ok so after ALL this, my game crashes after the intro level. Last night it worked fine. I don't know what to do anymore. I can't handle all the technical bullshit this game has to offer. Right when the bathysphere thing makes it to where it starts loading the first real level, I get the "Bioshock.exe has stopped working" message. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO ANYMORE. If one of you guys can help me solve this problem i'd be grateful, but I'M NOT SEARCHING FORUMS ALL DAY AGAIN. FUCK THAT.

ChronoGrl 03-15-2009 10:54 AM

Is there any way you can escalate this issue to Steam and get your money back? Or are they going to come back and say the performance issues are on your end?

I've known people with this problem and they'll usually just keep you on the phone trying to fix it. Your computer and graphics card must all meet the minimum requirements, you have to go download and update drives (as well as editing the odd .ini file), and frankly it's all just a pain in the ass.

BUT

If you buy a pc game from any store, online or B&M, and then open the game only to find out you can't get it running... you're screwed. I don't know any place that will give you a return on an open pc game, only an exchange.

As far as the game goes, I can see people not liking it but shit, I'm so sick and tired of people pressing their opinion like it's a fucking fact. Murderdoll, what didn't you like about the demo? (I mean, other than your dark and brooding soul that can't find joy in anything... except Rick Astley.)

Angra 03-15-2009 11:18 AM

Rick Astley.... rrrrrrrrrr

Well I bought it online, so there's no way to *open* it. No excuse but to refund my money. Faulty merchandise.

I understand that but you could TECHNICALLY still pirate the game with the files you've downloaded so they might get uppity. I hope not, good luck.

A statement worthy of saving in my signature. I know quite a few who are guilty of the abovesaid.

Posh, you cannot ask for a refund now because like you said, you have been roaming around forums and ware sites looking for "fixes" and "updating" the game software as much as possible. That wont go well with Steam.

What is your system configuration? Can you post it here? Bioshock and Crysis are two games that require pretty steep hardware to work properly.

I might be able to help you with this.

Maybe on a different day, where i'm not about to crucify the files to the PC devil or something. I'll keep you posted.

Who cares if Steam is pissed at me! Hundreds of people have had the same problem with Steam's hosting of Bioshock, and the only solutions they've found were fixes and patches. That's absolute bullshit.

It's not them being pissed at you, it's the company protecting their product and supposedly preventing pirating. PC gaming has been rife with bugs since the beginning, unfortunately being able to "patch" games made developers rush products out even faster so you encounter more bugs than usual. I remember having to patch Duke 3D because of bugs (granted, Oregon Trail never needed a patch but it might have been nice, too much Dysentery) and it's something you deal with if you're a PC gamer. Life sucks, get a helmet. :)

Vodstok 04-21-2009 04:59 PM

posh, do you have an Nvidia video card? I do and had a fucking hell of a time when i first got bioshock. Get the LATEST drivers for your card, first and foremost. you are also no doubt running vista, so you could try compatibility mode, though that probably wont help.

Try the new drivers and also try lowering the settings. Also, check to see if there are any bioshock updates available. out of the box, the game was pretty broken, but over the last almost 2 years they have ironed out the bugs. mine ran like sahit for 9 months, but has purred like a kitten ever since.

cheebacheeba 04-23-2009 09:30 AM

Fuck Hitler!

Posher778 05-15-2009 07:29 PM

PC gaming is the best way to game. Hands down.

Posher778 05-15-2009 07:34 PM

More versatility. You can do just about anything on PC. MMORPGS, free games, etc. You have to pay for everything on console games. The MMO I play is better than most console games, and it was totally free.

There's a 360 here. It's not that exciting. I have a Gamecube. It's been better than most new consoles.

Posher778 05-15-2009 08:06 PM

No. I play PC games for live stuff. Plus I prefer shooters and RPGs to anything else, and they work better on PC.

Posher778 05-15-2009 08:13 PM

I've played plenty of console shooters... Not as much fun. Plus COD isn't horror ;)

cheebacheeba 05-17-2009 02:55 AM

Yeah, the pc is king of shooters...has not thus far been overcome.
