question

I'm hoping someone will know the name of the movie. It was about a female doctor who lost her medical license in the U.S. and went to an island, possibly Haiti, to care for a man who believed he was under a voodoo spell. A young native woman who befriended her turns out to be bad news. I would guess this move was made in the last 5 years and saw it on the SciFi channel. Thanks to anyone who recalls the title.

It sounds like The Gate

At first I was thinking it sounded like I Walked with a Zombie, but that was made in 1943 so I'll have to go with The Gate as well.

question

Elvis, thanks but that's not it. Early on it showed a burning field and sugar cane workers chopping away with their machetes. There was a fat corrupt police chief in charge of the island. The native woman who turned out to be bad news was turning people in zombies by blowing a kind of powder in their faces. Hopefully these details will jog someone's memory.

Well if it's not the Gate then it's gotta be The Serpent and the Rainbow.

Or not.... maybe http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0250698/

lol Hey Elvis!

Here is a link to a pretty good synopsis of Ritual. Explains the guy thinking he's a zombie bit. http://www.beyondhollywood.com/tales...-movie-review/

MissMacabre, thank you, you got it. The Ritual! I checked A thru Z on the list of voodoo and zombie moves made during the last decade and couldn't find it.

That's cause it was apparently pretty crappy and went straight to video. :p

Question

MissMacabre, that would cover about 95% of horror movies. I recently saw the remake of Friday the 13th and that should have gone to video too. Rob Zombie is going to butcher Halloween 2 in the near future, probably even wore than he did Halloween. I think I'll wait for Neflix rather than waste another $9.50 at the cinemas.

True enough, but those movies made money and were single movies coming out on their own. What's more, remakes sell. There are teens who love horror movies but refuse to watch anything made before 1999. Remakes are a good chance to make money and for them to experience a story they otherwise wouldn't.

The reason Rituals went straight to video was because Bordello of Blood didn't make as much money as they anticipated when they filmed all the Tales from the Crypt movies.
