Any (NFL) Football Fans Excited about Sunday?
For any those who do not know: The NFL Playoffs are over. The final game of competition between the conferences (besides the Pro Bowl) is set. This Sunday is Superbowl Sunday. The AFC Champions *cough* are once again the Pittsburgh Steelers. The NFC Champions (though many didn't expect it, they've earned it) are they Arizona Cardinals. The two will collide Sunday to compete for the Superbowl victory of course, as well as the Lombardi Trophy.
I haven't been on NFL Network in awhile but I assume the Steelers are the favorites to win. As much as it pains me to say, I think there will be yet another victory for those with the terrible towels. It also doesn't help to be praising them--especially two weeks ago when they eliminated one of my favorite teams-The Baltimore Ravens-who were a game away from their history and what was to believed destiny in Tampa. Regardless, I'm almost over it--and will be watching the big game later. And Since the Steelers and Ravens are in the same conference: AFC North, For One Night Only, I'll be cheering on the Yellow and Black. Bleh. Any NFL Football fans on HDC?: What are your plans? The Party Food? The Game? Who are you watching it with? Who's your pick? What teams did you expect to get in? Overall thoughts of the playoffs? Your views on the Pro-Browl Selections? I wanna know everything. Tell Me. |
Vikings are out so I wouldn't say I'm excited about it, but I'll be watching it while not really caring who wins.
On second thought, Larry Fitzgerald is a Minnesota boy so I suppose that gives me slight reason to root for Arizona over Pittsburgh. |
Saw on the Uk news this morning, some crazy guy sold his his flat in the Docklands, London and spent £40k travelling across America to see all the footbal matches. Even left his girlfriend behind for 14 weeks. Thats an obsession. He's trying to get tickets for this match but is having trouble.

Super Bowl is always lame and seems to have less and less to do with football each year and more about marketing.
The NFC & AFC Championship games are the best/biggest games of the year. I'm already looking to next season HAIL TO THE REDSKINS! |
It's been kind of cool to live in a city with a winning team. And I've been blown away by the dedication and commitment of the Steelers fans. Everyone wears their jerseys all the time, including at work and a lot of the banks and other businesses out here have had Steelers cakes and cookies for their clients. New York wasn't nearly as spirited for the Giants last year. Even though I'm not a huge sports person it's been good to see people having something to be excited about and proud of.

I'm more of a rugby guy.

Going to have to utterly disagree with you there. Game turned out great. |

Yeah, that was an excellent game. I'd be pretty pissed about the last few seconds if I was a diehard Arizona fan though. That last play looked like an incomplete pass to me, they ruled it a fumble, game over with no review. I was shocked the replay booth didn't call for a closer look on it. Warner's arm was clearly moving forward and the way the ball projected out of there seemed a lot more like a pass than a fumble. As it is though, I was pretty impartial to who won so I didn't really get too worked up.... But if that were the Vikings or I was an Arizona fan, I'd be fuckin' fuming right now.

But then when all else fails Warner sees Fitzgerald and 9 times out of 10 its magic. The only thing is, because of their high power offense, when Fitzgerald and Boldin have people beat deep, they score quickly. Perhaps after they scored, they should've went for two--to pressure the steelers to get a quick score and hope the pressure gets to them-so they make a mistake. Or, they could've went for the onside kick after they scored, so they could get the ball back, melt some clock down- so even if Pittsburgh forced a three and out, time wouldn't be on there side. With 2:37 left, even though the onside kick option might've been a gutsy call: It's the Superbowl. It's the only time when you're suppose to lay it all on the line--even if it's a gutsy decision. Regardless of the fact though, the Steelers earned this one--clearly. There were some rather sketchy calls in the 2006 superbowl-and Pittsburgh nearly lost that one. Last year, in my view, the better team (NE) didn't win the Superbowl. I think they were robbed. I know, I know--the Tyree catch counted. I'm still not over it though. But this year, although I hate to see another terrible towel waved in my face: Pittsburgh was the best team in 2008. |

Sadly...that's my second favorite team. Brady's receovered though. And will be back in '09...I wonder if Bill will keep Cassel. Probably not. Detroit will probably try to grab him...they'll need all the help they can get. :p Sorry if you're a lions fan on here. |

That's what I thought about the half-time show. Since the 2004 Janet Jackson incident-it seems they're afraid to get younger, hipper, musicians to perform; I haven't enjoyed any superbowl halftime show since. The halftime show for the thanksgiving game -lions vs. titans I enjoyed though. |

I had hoped McNabb would hit the market this offseason, but he seems to have rebounded very nicely from his benching in Philly and now I'm guessing he'll stay there, especially after their deep run in to the playoffs. |
There were rumors going around last year that McNabb was talking about heading there and if not he, then Chad Pennington would. But the Dolphins eliminated that option.

We're cool with the Rookie of the Year Joe Flacco and Heisman trophy winner Troy Smith. Boller has a hell of a arm...but needs to work on accuracy in terms getting in good positions for his receivers instead of those SS and DB down the field. Detroit might wind up with him, if they can't get Cassel. |
Boller is on par with what I would expect the Vikings to go after, which doesn't speak well of him. I'd take Flacco in a heartbeat though. He came out of nowhere this year and turned out to be excellent.
TJax would be okay as a backup if we traded for Cassel and dicthed Frerotte. I'm not comfortable with him at all in the starting spot though. He's still making too many mistakes. |

I'm a Saints fan. All good at QB here. |
You know what pisses me off about the Vikings franchise?
We had Tony Dungy & Mike Tomlin in our coaching system, they both get lured away by head coaching jobs at other teams and go on to win Super Bowls, meanwhile we're stuck with fuckin' idiot after idiot for our head coaches. Dennis Green sucked, Mike Tice sucked, Brad Childress sucks. It's ridiculous. |

I don't want Holmgren for the same reason I didn't/don't want Favre. If we get either of them and then do well or God forbid, win a Super Bowl, we'll never hear the end of it from the fuckin' Packer fans. Longwell & Sharper are more than enough former Packers on our squad right now. (If you've never traveled up north here, that Vikes/Packers rivalry runs very deep. In fact, when I was in college in Wisconsin near the MN border, there would literally be brawls after the games.) We hate the Packer fans and they hate us. Depending on what part of Wisconsin someone's from, they may hate the Bears fans equally, but rest assured everyone in MN hates the Packers more than the Bears or the Lions. I agree that Cower seems content in retirement. Shanahan would be a great option. |

But the steelers rivialry is bigger than the Redskins 1. We're in the same divisiions. We're the number 1 and 2 defense. Purple and Black vs. Yellow and Black. Lots more in common. |
