hi just wantig to know if anyone has watched strangers it is awsome but then again i think that thay could have out a good ending to it insteaqd of the crappy one. marianne :p

It was a great movie. Creepy because it's was realistic unlike all the CGI shit in movies these days. If it had a better ending it would go down as one of my favorites.

yes i agree it was creepy but then again i like creepy and im glad that it was realistic unlike other movies because i have had enough with some of the movies having the same ending or people dieing in the same way as you would expect

I would hardly call it realistic - the way the bad guys got around and melted in and out of shadows I thought they were supernatural at first.

Actually some of those bits reminds me of Lesie Vernon talking about the set up before his kills..

marianne 01-16-2009 05:50 AM

whos he and i still think it was realistic the way that they moved around places to get to people and hurt them

Ferox13 01-16-2009 06:21 AM

From this film:

Obviously things like that were unrealistic but the whole plot of three strangers stalking a couple and messing around with them for there own personal enjoyment. Something like this could easily happen and I'm sure it's happened many times.

I thought the first half was really intense, but then that intensity started to feel redundant and I didn't care much for the ultimate payoff. It was still an alright movie for having my heart racing for a while though.

Also, I was interested to find out just what kinda true story the movie was based on, but once I did my research, I was quite disappointed. There should be a limit to how far the whole 'based on a true events' gimmick can be stretched.

I was really pumped to watch this, and like so many films i thought it sucked. They tried to create a scary atmosphere out of a simple story. It just didn't work, i got bored and when the movie finished i was like what the fuck?

I watched it last night, I felt pretty much the same, I was expecting it to be a lot better, but the villans weren't scary at all, they were just there, but not really doing anything. It all seemed a bit pointless.

Now, I really enjoyed this movie. I'm the kinda guy that likes to get scared in that jumpy way (I don't know if theres an english word for it?) and this movie succeeded in making me.

I actually liked the ending. Keeping The Strangers eerie and mystic was a good way to go.

Well, SodaGirl, as far as I know, it wasn't based on a true story... The whole "based on actual events" thing was meant as satyrical.

Besides that... I did like the movie. Even though I must admit it kinda loses its pace after some time, I think it has some pretty interesting elements. First of all, even if there are some definitely unrealistic things (hell, sometimes we might think the psychos can teleport), the photography, the camera movements and the violent scenes as a whole seem to have been made aiming at a realistic, say, point of view.

Also, I guess I really liked the way the just human killers can be totally cynical and just... Well, plain evil. No psycho babble about how their parents didn't give them enough sugar, no discourse on how they think they were wronged and, well, no speeches like "who needs a reason?". Those people are scary because they simply LOOK evil. One thing is to have Jason chasing you in that slow, expressionless manner. Another is to have supposed normal people doing that for mere fun. OK, I know it's been done before, but... I don't know, the whole thing just looked pretty convincing for me, hehe.

I really liked this movie, and realy liked the ending unlike most. Any more movies like this you would recommend? Ones with intruders or anything that has that kinda real life feel to it?

I already have "them"

valenS 02-03-2009 05:23 PM

I enjoyed the movie but i didnt like the ending. It remind me a little bit to Funny Games. In my opinion that kind of ending didnt suit for a movie like The Strangers.

That's more or less how I felt.

The Strangers had an incredible tension build-up for about the first 45 minutes. After that, it seems like the filmmakers didn't know what to do with all that tension, and it became progressively more and more like any other BS home invasion movie you could see in any big multiplex at any given time.

Great for about 45 minutes, unremarkable the rest of the time.

Plaguewind 02-05-2009 03:10 PM

Guess you'll like Funny Games, Mr. Myers...

milktoaste 02-05-2009 06:51 PM

No The Strangers was bad. I agree with the first 45mins. being really good, but then the victim characters became their own worste enemy. Come on, they had a loaded shotgun at one point, and only managed to screw themself with it. I tell ya, these random home invaders sure know how to pick em'.

crabapple 02-07-2009 09:33 AM

It's a terrible film that left me feeling cheated in the end...lame-o explanation about midpoint..."Why are you doing this?" "Because you're a home" ...uh, this film has not a single idea.

I enjoyed the buildup, but there was no payoff, and that's half a movie at best. Sorry, but "the strangers" is poop nuts...like so many recent movies, it was all about the hype.

Thank you SO much Plague, that movie was brilliant! Really really loved it, great performance by Michael Pitt. I would be very interested in any other recommendations.

You shouldn't forget the importance of entertainment;)

UngodlyWarlock 02-10-2009 04:06 PM

When I finished this one, I was shocked to go online and see that so many people liked it...and even more shocked to hear that it did so well at the box office.

It was "okay" at best, but the ending was awful. I'm all for endings that leave you in the dark, but this one just made the whole movie pointless. Not really a single bit of information.

It works in movies like Black Christmas (which isn't even a comparable movie, but it uses the same kind of idea of not telling you anything about the killer), but here it just came off as "We didn't really have a clue what to do here".

I didn't hate it, but I wouldn't watch it again either.

Have you seen Eden Lake? Amazing movie.

ZombieSalad 02-18-2009 08:40 AM

very good movie I think. got a little bit of the disturbing atmosphere then many other similiar movies. The building up is nice and the ending is nice, good movie.

No I havnt seen that one yet. Although I did see the trailer and the chavs in it just really pissed me off, they are annoying enough in real life, dont wana watch them in a move.

But thanks anyway, I might check it out soon.

Still looking for something as good as funny games, best iv seen in a long time.

Inside (Kick-ass home invasion!)
Ils/Them
Eden Lake (Nevermind the chavs, they're supposed to be annoying)

Overall I liked this movie. It wasn't great but I especially thought Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman did a pretty fine job at acting. I like movies like this that make you feel like you are trapped and there is no escape whatsoever. I find it extremely creepy when the killer(s) where masks as well.

****Spoiler Alert****

I especially liked the whole stabbing scene towards the end, I mean it was VERY disturbing and hard to watch but damn it was a very intense moment in the film.

marianne 03-13-2009 02:10 AM

yes i agree with you. i like to watch things that are hard to watch and find them interestingly good. marianne

Anthropophagus 04-16-2009 11:11 AM

Strangers was good but not in the same league as Ils aka Them.Always the case though isnt it.

Clockwork Black 04-16-2009 07:15 PM

I didnt think it was to bad. Sort of creepy in places. I kinda thought it feel apart near the end though.

marianne 04-28-2009 06:40 AM

the end of the film wasnt really good but the rest of the film was good.
