when i was younger i didnt understand what was so awsome about tcm but know i relise how great it is it has the best prop usage of any film ever

I could go off on what makes TCM the greatest horror film ever for days. Since I'm not interested in doing that here are some of the things I like about it.

-Leatherface is not the unkillable, omnipotent slasher hero. He cries and freaks out and is still scary.
-The part where Jim Siedow is driving in the truck with Marilyn Burns on the floorboard. He pokes her with the broomstick, then apologizes, then realizes he likes it and pokes her some more.
-Any scene with Ed Neal.
-Any scene with Franklin.
-The whole Sawyer family dynamic, especially Grandpa.
-It's basically Hansel and Gretel.
-The title credits.
-The cultural tension between the hippies and Franklin.
-Black Maria.
-All the movies it stole from.
-All the movies that stole from it.

OK Shifty2C, saying something just sucks is boring. What don't you like about TCM?

i enjoyed the movie alot. it is amazing how you can make somthing so good with such a low bugdet

The original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" is a fucking classic. All of these new teeny-bopper bullshit Hollywood movies are shit when compared to classic horror. Is it the best horror movie ever? No. But it is ONE of the best horror movies. It beats the SHIT out of garbage like "House Of The Dead" and "FearDotSHIT."

well i mean i just watch original last night and i thought i would like it but i didnt i was really dissapointed i dont know why but it just didnt scare me thats all. as for movies i like, well i like noes and friday the 13th although it doesn't scare me anymore i also like the original halloween. Scream is good although people say its not horror i myself think it is. OH and as for laying of the crack pipe, You'll have to pry it out my cold dead hand

the original tcm is one of the best horror movies of all time because its inspired by true events the story of ed gein the remake was alright but it couldve been better

When i first watched TCM i realy hated, i though it sucked big time but when i first watched it i wasnt into horror but then when i 'found out' i realy like horror movie and brought TCM on dvd because i got another dvd in this specail offer, so i watched TCM again and i realy enjoyed it and i cant believe i though it sucked.

EXACTLY Very well said. In fact, I'm playing it right now. They really did a great job restoring it for the DVD. Watching it today, reminded me of just how much I love it.

The original TCM is the ultimate exemple of a atmosphere horror movie. Not much of a story here, but the atmosphere is delightfully frightening. You can "taste" the personage's fear trough the movie and the madness of the whole Leatherface familly was well depicted by the camera views and filming in general. Tobe Hooper made a hell of a classic with this one.

And what about the finale? Wasn't it a ggod depiction of the whole Leatherface character to see him just waving around his chainsaw, twirling in the middle of the empty road??

The remake isn't all that bad, but can never recreate the TCM original atmosphere. What's been done perfectly don't need to be redone.
