The single greatest horror movie ever made

Name your favorite horror movie. No lists of a bunch! Just your top 1. What you feel is the most complete well rounded movie that best fits your description of horror. i just am curious to know what people on here think.

mine is the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre

bloodygurl02 02-16-2004 09:59 PM

for me the exorcist

Signs515 02-16-2004 10:08 PM

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

sleepaway 02-17-2004 01:29 AM

Re-Animator

Distorty 02-17-2004 03:20 AM

Texas chainsaw orginal
Followed closely by NOES 1

sleepaway 02-17-2004 03:52 AM

A close second for me would be:

Ghoulies Go To College :D

Vodstok 02-17-2004 05:12 AM

Exorcist, definately. If i was told i couldnt use that one, then the Shining. I love the ring, but it wasnt quite the masterpiece someof the older ones were.

But i do love the ring.

Original Or Remake?

Vodstok 02-17-2004 05:36 AM

I'm going to get crucified for this, but the remake. I was bored senseless by the original. And i usually hate remakes.

left hand, please... WHAM WHAM WHAM WHAM.

right hand, please. WHAM WHAM WHAM WHAM.

just kidding.

The single greatest horror film is Texas Chainsaw Massacre. 1974 version, duh.

I would give the Shining a close second but the fact that it probably cost 100 times what TCM did makes TCM the worthy underdog.

Dreaming Girl 02-17-2004 06:28 AM

It's difficult, but overall I'd have to say Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It didn't rely on "jump" scenes or the dark or a manipulative soundtrack... instead it was simple, minimilistic, and highly disturbing in the fact that this *could* happen (versus the immortal killer, possessed doll, ect...).

I wouldn't go quite so far as to say it's my absolute #1 favorite, but it's pretty much got all the ingredients of what I would truly consider "horrific".

Je Suis Phnomne 02-17-2004 07:00 AM

Exorcist hands down.... what the hell is not scarey about seein your kid walk down the steps upside down on all fours. And as bad as pea soup is, to make it look that good is priceless

I liekd the remake but it just wasn't scary or even creepy. And the ending was so Hollywood I think I even laughed. Loved the addition of the Horse scene on the ferry though that was great.

Killer Clown#1 02-17-2004 10:59 AM

I would have to say a tie between Noes1 and Friday the 13th. Sorry can't decide which is better:p

bwind22 02-17-2004 11:53 AM

since everyone else posted their #2s, im gonna post mine.

1- TCM
2-Dawn of the Dead

Machine King 02-17-2004 06:12 PM

Mine is Evil Dead Trap.

otis 02-17-2004 07:01 PM

Man, this is a hard one. I would say Night of the Living Dead, the first one, and my second would be ummmm..... NOES1

orangestar 02-17-2004 07:54 PM

Original Night of the Living Dead.

Followed extrememly closesly by Candyman (dont kill me!)

shorty tha pimp 02-28-2004 01:14 PM

the single greatest horror film is.......
THE EVIL DEAD

Sam The Egg 02-28-2004 01:15 PM

Se7en

fluffho 02-28-2004 01:19 PM

i was about to say non existant.. but i agree with sam.

although that almost wasnt horror, more like action suspense. but horror it fits into

kpropain 02-28-2004 01:24 PM

Tie between TCM or Halloween

crazy clown 02-28-2004 06:39 PM

i'm gonna say the original frankenstein. that is a true horror classic.

but my favorite movie is noes1

prophet 02-29-2004 04:30 AM

I cant decide

ALL 3 DEAD MOVIES

Followed By All 4 PHANTASM'S

Then All the HELLRAISER'S

a small list sorry I cant absolutely choose just 1 u see I love all the horror movies even B horror

Voorhees 02-29-2004 06:53 AM

I think I'd have to say The Shining:)

Killer Clown#1 02-29-2004 07:08 AM

(in order)The Texas massacre, Friday the 13th series, and Noes.

DarkwingMantis 02-29-2004 09:37 AM

NOTLD, it pushed the envelope of what you can show in terms of gore and nudity. ( one zombie was nude from behind. Tame now but racy by 60's standards) Really opened the door for films like Friday13th, noes, and the likes

crazy clown 02-29-2004 10:55 AM

wow, hellraiser movies wtf.

Angelakillsluts 02-29-2004 03:39 PM

...

I guess it would be Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Haunted 03-01-2004 05:14 AM

The Exorcist and NOTLD ...however NOES1 follows really close behind.

Dr.Kelvinstein 03-02-2004 01:58 PM

There are a few films that are simply as good as a horror movie can be...Halloween, TCM, NOTLD, and Psycho.

The Wolf Man is probably the best monster movie of all time.

Darth Bane 03-03-2004 07:44 AM

Cannibal Holocaust, Blood Sucking Freaks, ONLY the beginning scenes of Last House on the Left, and I Spit on your Grave. Any movie that demoralizes women gets my vote.

Keyser_Soze 03-04-2004 06:21 AM

I guess I am alone here, but JAWS is the best MOVIE ever not just horror movie.

2nd would be Halloween II.

KRUGERKID13 03-04-2004 08:21 AM

Hellraiser 1
NOES 1
Gingersnaps (best wolf movie)
Sleepaway Camp 1 & 3

Mercury33 03-04-2004 08:31 AM

My all time favorite would have to be Halloween followed very closely by Evil Dead 2 and The Exorcist.

Ultimamk 03-04-2004 05:04 PM

Tie for me-- TCM and Halloween.

Randall_Flagg 03-04-2004 11:15 PM

For me it's Halloween, closely followed by Massacre.

SphereMan 03-06-2004 01:52 PM

Whoa, let me sleep on it. :D
