WB Cancels Angel
The WB announced today that Angel won't be back for a sixth season. The news comes on the heels of the network airing the 100th episode of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin-off starring David Boreanaz. The WB issued a statement early in order to give the show's creators time to wrap up the season appropriately.
"For the last seven years 'Angel' and 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' have been cornerstones of our network. The sum total of the work done on those shows has produced some of the proudest moments in our history," said the network. "Like some of the great series that are leaving the air this year, including 'Frasier' and 'Friends,' the cast, crew, writers and producers of 'Angel' deserve to be able to wrap up the series in a way befitting a classic television series and that is why we went to Joss to let him know that this would be the last year of the series on The WB." The cancellation might not be the end of Angel altogether though. "We have discussed continuing the 'Angel' legacy with special movie events next year, which is still on the table," said The WB. "In a perfect world, all of these details would be completed before this information went to the press so that we could be definitive about the show's ongoing future. But in any case, we did not want to contemplate this being the last year of 'Angel' without giving the show the option of crafting their own destiny for this character and for this series." The network also praised Boreanaz, cast and crew. "David Boreanaz continues to be one of the finest, classiest and friendliest actors we have had the pleasure to work with and we hope that the relationship furthers from here. The same can be said for all the actors and producers on the show." There are still nine episodes left in this, now last, season of Angel. Source: Warner Bros. |

I haven't watched the show much, only the first season, but I hear that there's way too much to wrap up in 9 episodes

I still need to buy season 2

I lost interest after they killed off Doyle.

I didn't like it when Doyle died, but I like THAT he died...as weird as that sounds. It showed that nobody was untouchable on the show. Just because you're in the core cast, even in the opening credits, you can still die.

I dunno.
It doesn't seem like Joss has much luck with his shows staying in one place. Buffy lasted five seasons, got moved, lasted two seasons and ended. Angel lasted five seasons and might not be moving anywhere. And Firefly went nowhere, that show got canceled faster than a baby in an abortion clinic. |
Boo Hoo...I never liked it anyway

http://scifi.com/scifiwire/art-main....2/10.45.rumors 12:00pm ET, 12-March-04 Angel Not Dead Yet? Are reports of the death of The WB's Angel exaggerated? The IGN FilmForce Web site, citing anonymous sources, reported rumors that the network is in talks with Fox and Mutant Enemy, which produce Angel, about a possible sixth season, even though The WB has already announced that Angel will disappear at the end of the current fifth season. A source, posting on a WB bulletin board, reported the talks, the site said. Other posts have suggested that The WB is going to be taking a close look at the ratings for upcoming episodes, including repeats, and basing its decision on whether or not to revive the show on them. Another source reported that Sky One, the satellite network owned by Rupert Murdoch, has been told that talks for a sixth season of the vampire drama are underway and that there will be a new season available, the site reported. |
I hope they just go one more season. That way, they'll know to give time for closure. They got the news of the cancelation late in the season for them to be able to wrap much of anything up.

Watched the WWII episode of Angel last night, the one set in the submarine!
All I can say is I'm glad they are ending it! That episode was weak, weak, weak! End it while it's somewhere near the top of it's game. Don't let what happened to Buffy, happen to Angel! |
