Carnival of Souls
Anybody ever see this movie? If you thought the Sixth Sense was completely original you might want to check this film out.
|
I have this friggin movie and have for a long time. I still haven't watched it.
|
You should sit down and watch it, after you finish The Brood Tony.
|
hahhah...too true...too damn true
|
Did anyone ever see the "remake" that Wes Craven produced of this?
|
I've only seen the remake.
Can somebody say, "A Horrible Movie"? |

Carnival of Souls
This would be on my top 10 favorite classic horror film list. Its also on my top 10 favorite supernatural film list. I enjoy the whole surrealistic stlye of filmmaking Herk Harvery was going for. If he had made more horror films he would have defianetly been among the horror greats like Romero, Jackson, Raim, Carpenter, Argento, Fulci, Bava...ect.
Anyone else a fan? http://members.cscoms.com/~suwat/pos...l_of_souls.jpg |
Great movie, very stylish, very atmospheric, a great spooky movie for late at night
|
leading lady was hot....especially with the wet hair look...
|
yes this is a great movie ....
a prime example where 'less is more' great atmosphere and the lead was perfect too... I like it when someone has the skill to make you fear for them, not cheer for the killers/ghost/force .. whatever .. |
This would have to be my favorite atmoshere in any movie. The first time I saw the "main ghost" on the side of the road, it freaked me out.
|
One of my favorites too. Loads of fun! Well, in a creepy sort of way.
I loved that "guy across the hall" character, he's so sleazy and yet pathetically sad at the same time, he seems totally real. And I like the weird fluctuatory way the girl acts toward him, first friendly and caring, then condescending and snooty. This is disturbing in itself! Hilligoss' performance should have gotten an award of some kind. (Yes, she's really lovely, too.) |
Yup excellent film & personal favourite of Romero & Carpenter.
|
although I've seen the movie several times through the years--it is only recently that I've acquired it on DVD and had an opportunity to watch it more thoroughly.
Very creepy. Also, very much a period piece--I had a new Chevrolet of that model (1960) when I was a high school senior. I was a big horror movie fan at that time--but I don't remember that movie being released in the U.S.--And Remember, back in those days there were NO VCRs or DVDs. The only place you could see a movie not in current release was on TV--if it made the cut. |

I just started watching this...looking good so far:)

Eerie movie!
|
Strange, creepy, and compelling...I loved it!
|
Glad you liked it.

To anybody who has never seen "Carinval Of Souls" and your going to your local video store to rent it, do yourself a favor and avoid a so called "remake" of the film. It had Larry Miller and was produced by Wes Craven(!) It is truly, truly awful. Stick with the original black and white classic
|
I didn't really like the movie that much.

No, me neither. Just got it home from Ebay. First of all i didnīt find it creepy/spooky/scary at all. Okay the first time you see the powder faced man in the window of the car you get surprised. But after that minor shock itīs just the same happening in the entire movie and the male ghost dosenīt get scarier after the first time you see him. And i frankly thought that the lead actress was pretty bad. Especially the scene where she is being hysterical in the "doctors" office. Watch her face.... Yikes!:( |

What always struck me as somewhat interesting, yet oddly annoying, in Carnival of Souls was the incessant organ music. Like the movie, too artsy for its own good.
Some call the flic surrealist, and as experiments go, it ain't bad. Worth watching once, I suppose. "Is there death after life?" was one of the taglines of the film when it was released. And I suppose we're meant to go "hmmmmm" and "aaaaahhhhh" upon consideration of the disjointed narrative and visual cues that let us know we're somewhere between reality and limbo. But mixing the cerebral and the visceral should be done carefully. And Souls falls short. About Carnvial of Souls, screenwriter John Clifford said he wanted "the look of a Bergman and the feel of a Cocteau." For the budget, I think they came close. But if you're looking for a scare, look elsewhere. I do know this much after watching Souls. Utah in the early sixties looks like one scary place. |
..but how is the remake ?
"Carnival of Souls" (1998) |

its not a remake ...in any way shape or form. incredibly chilling performance from Larry Miller - normally a comedian .. dont know if i'd consider it a good movie though |

Never liked remakes of films that don't even need to be remade.

Like?!, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Dawn of The Dead for instance....both of the originals didn't need a remake, its all about the green. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
