My first horror film
 

What's the first horror film you've ever seen? The fist horror movie i ever saw was Night of the Living Dead. NLD was pretty awesome, considering it was a first. Dawn of the Dead seems REALLY cool. DOTD is kind of like a remake of NLD, although it's a remake of the of the original DOTD.

It's really hard to remember but it's got to be one of the Universal monster movies, I think it's The Wolfman but it might be Frankenstein also.

Clockwork Orange, does that really count as horror?

My first was the original Friday The 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street 4 when I was about 8 or 9.

I was raised on horror but the first one I remember being scared really bad by was Nightmare on Elm Street (the first one). VCRs had just come out and it was one of the first ones we rented. I didn't sleep but for about an hour that night. I crept into the living room and watched TV the rest of the night.

this just goes to show how much of a newbie i am, but the first horrorish movie i saw was the ring.

I'm pretty sure it was IT for me. I was 8 or 9 when it first premiered on TV. My dad watched it... and despite it scaring the heck out of me I watched most of it as well. I was already scared of clowns at that time, but IT definitely reinforced that fear and - frankly - flat out traumatized me for years. If I happened to think of it before I shower, for instance, I would shower standing as far away from the drain as possible with my eyes fixed on it. :-p Still, it was the birth of my horror fandom. We went to the library alot around that time and I started reading Stephen King. I'm honestly not a big fan of his work now, but I read ALOT of Stephen King between the ages of 8/9 and 14 or so.

Actually, I didn't watch alot of horror movies through my teens. I was a horror fan, but more when it came to fiction. It's only been in the last three or four years that I've REALLY gotten into horror cinema.

Scary or not, he was hilarious and totally entertaining in that movie. It's one of my favorites.

My first one was Hellraiser on TNT when I was like 10 or something. At least that was the first one that I can remember back to...

It scared the living crap out of me, and since that day I vowed to watch as many horror movies as I could so I wouldn't be scared of them anymore. That took a few years to do, and I ended up scaring myself shitless a few times.

my first horrors owned were halloween 4 and 5

i think it was called 'terror express' which starred one of (or both?) peter cushing/christopher lee with telly savalas. it concerned a creature in a crate aboard a train that apparently had come to earth thousands of years ago. this secret beast was then worshipped as satan by modern day followers. the creature's eyes glowed red if you looked directly at them, and then your eyes would turn white (roll back) and blood would stream from them. it terrified me and still sort've freaks me a little though i'm sure anyone would find it campy as hell.. there's an 'our father' recitation to lucifer scene too which is pretty good

Dude, IT made me poop my pants. I could only see the beginning and part of the shower scene.

IT freaks me OUT!

The first horror movie that really freaked me out was the 50's House of Wax. I saw it on my friend's black and white television(it's a color movie) when I was five. Somehow I think the bad picture and lack of color made it much scarrier for me. My little kid brain imagined the worst possible things going on under the murkey static. I had a hard time walking through my darkened kitchen for a while.

The first modern horror film I saw was the thirdFriday the Thirteenth movie when I was ten. I saw it on tv with my cousin. Mostly i was interested and amazed that there were naked girls in it. I didn't care much about the slasher stuff either way.

i think it was a elm street movie, but the first one i remember frightening me and giving me nightmares was Dr Giggle:)

mine was leprecaun. i was like 6/7. my cousins rented it (they were all teens or preteens at that time). they say that i kept running out of the room every time that the leprecaun came on the screen. it really scared me and i didn't watch horror for a long time after that.

First horror movie I saw was "Sleepaway camp" the secong was "don't go in the woods"

My first was CARRIE . Great film.

I have been looking at this thread for a while now and just trying to recall my first horror movie. It was probably some lame kiddie horror thing but the first proper adult one I can recall is seeing The Thing when I was about 10 as we had one pirate copy that went around the whole of the neighbourhood!

first one i watched was friday the 13th part 6, loved it then, still love it now.

My first horror movie was Dracula (Christopher Lee): The prince of darkness...i'm almost 100% sure of this, though it could have been Psycho.

What about the clown in that Simpsons episode?
"Can't sleep...the clown'll eat me".

I think it was probably the 1931 "Frankenstein."

The first film I vividly remember being really startled by was "The Land Unknown," which had a scene where a pterodactyl swoops out of the mist and bumps into the main characters' helicopter accidentally (it's the first weird thing that happens, and it comes totally out of nowhere). I remember seeing this on TV when I was a small kid, and being really totally surprised. Whoa!

i find them both disturbing because of all the people bragging that they saw these adult horror films when they were 4 or 5.

as a parent it bugs the shit out of me..

there's no way in hell i'd allow my kid to see horror violence at that age ...

my first movie was IT. I was six. I was afraid to look under my bed for a year. :p It was being showed on the television in the afternoon, like 5pm or so. My parents switched it off though when they catched me watching it.

but since then... I've become very twisted :D

i used to see the old b&w horror films thay'd show on saturday afternoons on TV ..
Dr Horrors Mansion of terror - or some such thing - where some local TV host would dress up and introduce these films ..

i was probably 10 or 12 and they scared the shit out of me..
(i used to watch them with my unkle at my grandmothers house after baseball)

the 1st one i saw at the theatre was Tales Fron the Crypt - a uk horror compilation (like creepshow) and it scared me so bad i went into the lobby 1/2 way through.

i was probably 13 - 15

i never saw anything again for years - until i was around 17 - 18 when i went with some friends to an all night horror marathon at a drive in and saw for the 1st time - dawn of the dead, texas chainsaw massacre, the prowler, High Risk (not a horror) and a couple of others i cant remember..

i went from being terrified - to laughing myh ass off as the night progressed ..

i wasnt afraid of any movie after that ..

Im not 100% sure, but I think it was the Lugosi version of Dracula. Still one of the best movies ever. Either that or Frankenstien meets the Wolfman, my parents bought both at the same time. I was between around 3-4 at the time...wasnt scared at all:)

First horror movie that scared me was the Blair Witch Project like 8 years later. Most of it was pretty dumb, but the last 10-15 min scared me shitless. Couldnt even watch all of it! [I still feel the same way, actually, but now I can tough it out long enough to see the whole thing:p ]

king kong or valley of gwangi when i was about 5 or 6. i still try to enter a state of mind similiar to then when i watch movies today
Just to enhance the experience, i find it makes a good movie a better experience. First films that scared me shitless were Crowhaven farm and Something evil (both tv movies i think)

Halloween

Holy shit, mine too. But I saw Leprechaun 3, the Las Vegas one. It scared the everliving shit out of me. I still really, really dislike those movies, partly because they suck and I truly don't like them, but also because that little guy gave me the fucking creeps for a week. I especially remember him saying that fucking line: "For playing this trick, I'll cut off your dick!"

Kids just end up watching this stuff. I saw a lot of shit I probably shouldn't seen as a kid (my brother would get out lots of films when he was babysitting me - not really horror but a lot of the 80s gang/action flicks) a lot of childrens movies just didn't interest me. My first horror movie was Friday The 13th which I videoed sneakly off late night TV as a kid.
