Health Foods
What kinds of foods do you eat that are "healthy?" I don't mean "chicken" or "vegetables." Do you buy anything organic? Etc etc.
I recently started buying organic whole wheat bread... delicious. |
Do you have a Great Harvest Bakery near you? They have a bread called Dakota Bread that has pumpkin seeds in it and it is amazing!
|
I buy organic whenever possible, especially organic milk, eggs, and apples. It tends to taste better, you get more nutrients out of it and it doesn't have any chemicals, hormones or pesticides in it. I also don't buy processed foods, or anything with partially hydrogenated oils (trans fat) and high fructose corn syrup. I feel some much better after I switched and even lost a few pounds.
|
I eat mostly organic. Organic bread, honey, vegetables and fruits from the farmers market on Friday morning. Sometimes my mom gets free range chicken from my uncles farm, and they are so much larger than a chicken you would get in the grocery store.
I made tea yesterday for my cold out of ginger and organic honey. It was delicious. |
-Entirely organing vegetables and milk.
-Free range eggs. -Low Fat Bacon -Quorn minced beef -100% Juice not from concentrate -Never any drinks with the words "Diet" or "Zero" in the names (The sweeteners are worse than the sugar). -We don't buy crisps. Unlike America where I ate crisps loads, we don't have Saturated Fat Free ones. Thats my mine problem with crisps. |

Organic rice milk is delicious.
|
Generally try to buy whole grain only (REAL whole grain; no enriched flours, no bleached flours, and no high fructose corn syrups) but I'm not a stickler for it. Soy chocolate milk is pretty good but I don't buy it all the time. I like real foods, sugar over any artificial sweetener (and honey over sugar when possible) is a big example of that. Like I said before, I'm not a stickler and I'm not going to worry about what is good and what is bad. Anything not done in moderation is bad so I simply try not to overdue anything.
|
Soy milk is very nice. Very very nice. And soy chocolate milk is nice and thick!
|
Currently eating turkey and cheese sandwiches on organic whole grain. Delicious!
|
NICE! Something I try and do with sandwiches is just throw some lettuce or greated carrot in there. You don't really notice them, it looks better and they're healthy too.

I usually eat my sandwiches plain. I'm fairly boring. |
And red onions. They're pretty good.

I am a health fanatic when it comes to food... I rarely buy any canned or processed foods. The only thing I would make an exception for, is if I used canned beans for a chili and so on. And for processed foods, the odd subway never hurts. I get made fun of constantly by friends and family members the way I eat, as it seems boring to them but to me, I love it and feel great throughout the day. I eat alot of oatmeal, natural peanut butter, brown rice, all kinds of multi and whole wheat breads, vegetables, chicken, and lean cuts of meat. My diet may seem repetitive, but I enjoy it as I know what I am eating and easily count my calories in a day. I can't stand the way food is promoted in our society and the amount of people who buy all the shit. Food is likely the worst silent killer. |
Soy milk, whole wheat bread, low fat imported pussy, brown rice, honey. I don't sweeten my tea. Soy yogurt, lots of water. Soy links and burgers the chick'n patties are great. Just got the Quorn patties but haven't tried yet.

We buy organic whenever we can - fruit & vegetables, meat, milk, pantry items, etc. But never buy "low fat" or "sugar free" variants. Personally, I would rather eat natural sugar than artificial sweeteners. And "low fat" products tend to lack taste and often have other artificial ingredients added. What I only rarely eat is take-away or junk food. I would rather spend a bit of time and make a good, natural meal than buy McDonalds or KFC. |
Try to eat low fat stuff for meals (chicken, fish, turkey, pork and vegies) and snack on fruits and vegies all day long. Eat at least three bananas a day; they're my candy bars. And coffee, black, morning, noon and night. Also diet Pepsi inbetween cups.:)
|
I'm really considering going organic for a lot of reasons, but it's insane how much more expensive certain items are. Maybe one day soon I'll be able to swing an all organic lifestyle but for now I just try to stick to a lower fat higher fiber diet. I've noticed that most things that are actually considered "diet" foods make me gain weight in the long run (It seems weird I've put on like 20 pounds drinking diet cokes in place of regular) so I keep away from those as much as I can.

Organic is good but yeh, the prices are annoyingly high. That's my main hang up with it. |

"Low fat" equivalents, and "sugar free" equivalents...shit, just don't eat the stuff if it's bad, or eat more good stuff with it. Diet is more about ratio than gimmicks like these things on sale. I buy some organic, some conventionally grown stuff. Organic is only really better on account of less "bullshit" being used in the growing process. Usually it tastes slightly better on account of this. I shop organic, not so much for health reasons...it's simply because more of the vegetables/fruits meet my quality expectations, they look, smell, and feel way better than stuff I'd pick up at a shopping centre. If expense is a problem - try to find a local organic market, we have one here every week - the farmers sell direct and the stuff ends up cheaper, or the same as the crap stuff you'd find in the supermarkets. I eat lots of green leaves - buy a nice salad mix from the organic markets that takes care of that. Ginger, cooked, raw, in tea/coffee...I love it, and it's meant to be an anti-cancer, blood pressure lowering superfood. Legumes - predominately just green beans and butter beans. I eat 'em raw. Wholegrains - less sugar, more of the good stuff left in. Wholegrain/rye "crackers" are good for this too. Chilli, hot chilli (peppers, yes?) Keeps the digestive tract healthy, also an anti-cancer thing. Naturally oily fish, like salmon. Not TOO cooked. Full of omega, helps. Mushrooms. Garlic - vitamin-y, and also reputed to clear off heart valve congestion. Raw spinach, or lightly stirfried. No soda/carbonated sugary beverages. Green tea with jasmine - the good stuff of tea, without much of the bad stuff. Lots of water. Walnuts. There are also buttere-equivalents that lower cholesterol absorbtion, I use them occasionally too. Cut the fat off your steaks...etc...you can live with it. |
