which made me wonder whether other folks would kill the monkey . . . (ok - i grant this is a totally narcisitic thread - but hell that's what HDC is all about)

oh - i wasn't going to change. just curious if it was getting on people's nerves (i don't want to be annoying).

as for being 'more real' - i must admit i don't even know what that means. i'm not one of those people who believes in a 'real me.' i've been so many different people (and animals) in my life its staggering. i don't think this makes me fake (though some may disagree) - i simply am what i am at the moment i'm being that. (hmm -maybe i'm a sociopath and i didn't even know it!)

Would you have me stop chucking rodents? Would you have floyd stop being pink? Would you take the hammer away from Fan? Be proud. And as not all of your posts are ape related, I'd say it's fine. Just don't go overboard with it.

I love the monkey. The monkey is very cool. But like MissM, at times I find myself wondering about the guy under the monkey suit. Your essays in the Battle Royale very very well written and insightful. They impressed me- and I think they were a large part of helping you win BR. Likewise I appreciated the candor of the thread you posted once after a confusing night in a bar. I woul love to hear more of that side of the monkey.

I don't really get how you would really take to heart what I said considering what I actually said, to the point you'd make another thread about it...how is it that important?
It's just hard to take you seriously when the off switch is never under consideration...that's all. You seem like a nice person in the posts you're not ranting about the monkey shit, and I think it's too bad we don't see more of that.
I didn't say to DITCH or STOP it...just said that, like with the tournys it's a bit overdone...I mean, do you want to be the toy that loses novelty and gets thrown into a corner? What about the guy who decides to post "out of character" and has no other response than "what happened with the monkey bit" time, and time again?
I can see from this and the other thread that my personal opinion pretty much means shit to you and the others on the matter anyways - so, I guess proceed as normal, I was only using the other thread to attempt to bring up a legitimate concern on my part without being petty or asshole-ish about it, and it seems that was taken the wrong way.

I myself would like to see more of the man who wrote some excellent blurbs for the HDC Top 100s.

to phalanx - i wasn't insulted - just curious. there have certainly been many members whose 'schtick' got really old really quick (of course those were mostly paedophiles so that's a bit different).

as for me - well i am what i am. i'll drink more before writing to let the fractured essence of my psyche slip through in inebriated rants more often (hey - any excuse to get sozzled and go on-line).

as for female - well . . . nothing happened. i did see her again and it was just sort of weird. so that's that - more lonely monkey nights (and please no 'banana jokes' here - it would just be too easy)

I have to agree with MM and NE. I think that the Monkey persona is charming and funny (and you have the BEST and totally RANDOM monkey picture - the "monkey don't dance" one is my favorite)... But there are times were come off as honest, brilliant, philosophical (the BR essays are a GREAT example), and analytical.... And I, selfishly want to hear more of that.

But you are who you are. And I totally heart you.

Monkeys and apes...monkeys and apes both make hooting sounds and go poop nuts a lot. And they pretty much swing from trees and eat coconuts and bananas, which makes them think pretty much the same. The issue of tail/no tail is very minor and should not be regarded as the monkey tail usually does not show up in photos anyway--the long and short of it is, if it looks like a monkey, you can call it a monkey, and that applies to monkeylike humans as well such as those people who frequent message boards like HDC.

Furthermore, it is well known by all that a monkey is as good as an ape in a card game. They both have poker face capability (and saucer separation capability, like the Enterprise from ST:TNG) and so do not reveal their strategy easily.
