True... I was worried about that...

How about It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown... The Great Pumpkin is pretty spectacular.

Disney's Halloween Treat
was a favorite of mine when I was little.

my kid just turned 8 ... but he's starting to like the more adult stuff..

he loves the aliens and the predators ... things like that.

he watched Cloverfield and told me 'that wasnt scary'
what his tone really said was : 'that wasnt scary, asshole' because it actually made my heart beat a mile a minute in the theatre and was worried about him seeing it ... kids ..

it all depends on the individual kid i guess ... i could make a lot of recomendations based on my kid .. but not too sure about the 2 kids in question

That was cute about what you said your boy really felt haha.

April my girl is into computer animated movies. We watched Monster House then Casper she told me Casper was lame and she just loves M.H. Carly likes scarier movies shes actually not excited about watching a movie that April likes because shes so much younger. Im trying to find a movie thats somewhat scary somewhat kiddie.

The Monster Squad is kind of fun ..

only problem i had with is is that a vampire calls a little girl a 'bitch' near the end ... which was the only thing that didnt fit into the film .. otherwise its a lot of fun for the kids

ernest scared stupid

one hallowe'en movie i loved when i was a kid, used to watch it many times every hallowe'en season, was the halloween tree. unfortunately they never released it on dvd. you might be able to track down a bootleg dvd or a used vhs copy, though. it'd be worth it, although i'm not sure you want to put that much work into it.

Lady in White and Watcher in the Woods if they want something creepy, I was about 8 when I saw lady and around 5 when I saw Watcher. I think I was around 8 or 9 when I saw Poltergeist and loved it.

neverending 10-19-2008 10:03 PM

The Halloween Tree is GREAT- based on a Ray Bradbury book.

Not sure if it's right for the 5 yr old mentioned in the initial post, though.

The Mothman 10-19-2008 10:12 PM

i remember enjoying Hocus Pocus when I was a little.

They claim so.

The girls decided on hocus pocus since april wants to be a witch for halloween lol

Most of the Universal classics are good for children. But I'd have to say, for kid friendly monster action, get some old school Godzilla. The newer stuff has slightly more realistic monsters and slightly darker content. The Toho master collection just put out Attack of the Monsters, a real gem known to Americans as Godzilla's Revenge that children really dig and it's about not being afraid. Though some of the jokes are slightly off color, Young Frankenstein is good. The Addams Family movies aren't too bad either.

Despare 10-20-2008 12:17 PM

I remember diggin' Spaced Invaders, it could be because I was 10 but I used to love that around Halloween.

I forgot about those! I haven't seen them in years. I need to rent them again.

Something kiddie that classifies as a horror. Hmm...As weird as this sounds I'd have to say "Gremlins" lol. I rememebr watching on the silver screen when I was a kid...I also remember laughing as parents rushed their kiddies out of the theatre at certain points (the Stripe death scene) for example.
