The Final Countdown

As requested by Pink.

Less than two weeks until Project V/F: Codename Informant begins. For those of you who have been around for our other projects, you know very well we're going to hype and spam the hell out of them.

So I'd like to start off this thread with a broad question: what is horror to you?

pinkfloyd45769 10-19-2008 09:13 AM

Thanks Flayed!!

Horror is a hobby,a habit,an obsession ,and a way of life:)

La Chat Noire 10-19-2008 09:35 AM

Horror is a way of expression and entertainment.

ferretchucker 10-19-2008 09:55 AM

Horror is a way of getting the adrenaline pumping, a way to make you feel alive without being in any danger.

neverending 10-19-2008 09:56 AM

Horror is the admin of this website that never bothers to communicate with us.

And as for what Horror is to me... It's an expression of the collective subconscious, it is the world of primal emotions (fear, survival), and it is a genre that is continually challenging its audience and redefining itself. To me, it is important that art evokes emotion, is cathartic, and challenges me... Horror does all those things, for better or for worse.

The Flayed One 10-19-2008 05:37 PM

How far does horror span to you? Movies or more? Define.;)

ALL over the place...I'm not kidding either

Movies, tv series, cartoons, video games, board games, trivia games, books, art, poetry, music, clothing, collectibles (My Teddy Scares, movie figures, etcetera), pretty much anything you can think of...Even the clubs I used to go to (and my friends still do, without me :() were 'horror-themed' Ie: Darkotica, Jekyll & Hyde's, The Church, Necropolis...They're probably at one of those clubs right now...

Oh well...I have a Dustin and a baby now, and that's even better :p

We did have a lot of fun, though

OH, that reminds me!...We even named the baby after a horror movie hero...ASH!...Gotta love Bruce Campbell

EDIT: I forgot to mention our big black Suburban with the 45 Grave emblems on it...So, even the vehicle we drive

I drank Black Kats (Jack Daniels, Diet coke, cherry juice and cherries)...They made it and named it after me ;)

pinkfloyd45769 10-19-2008 06:19 PM

I guess mine is not much more than movies.I know i suck:(

Nice answer, Rayne. These are the kind of things that will help us carve the path.

I just added these, because they just came to me: video games, board games, trivia games

I even have a bottle of Vampire Wine that I've had since 1996 :)

Wait, I gotta check the date on that...

Yup, 1996

I also forgot to add Necropolis...Another of our clubs

neverending 10-19-2008 06:28 PM

Horror is the world.

The Flayed One 10-19-2008 06:29 PM

Thanks again, Rayne. Seriously, the shape of this project is at least 70% in your guys hands, if not more. We only lay the guidelines and procedures.

lmao.

have to agree, depending on how much horror means to you, you can find a way to incorporate it into pretty much any aspect of your life (for example, rayne's extensive list ;) actually, it's quite impressive!). i find myself making choices that are guided by my love for the horror genre, right up to what i might change the desktop picture to on my computer.

The Flayed One 10-19-2008 07:32 PM

So basically, you all are saying that, like some optimists who find good in everything, that we can find horror in everything and indeed it is everywhere?

perhaps, or maybe if we don't find it somewhere, we put it there.

The Flayed One 10-19-2008 08:35 PM

Interesting.

So, let us pretend that we are motivational speakers. Or Ron Popiel style salesmen. If you were going to pitch the idea of horror to someone, how would you sell it? How would you hype it up to interest them into taking it into their lives?

_____V_____ 10-19-2008 08:44 PM

Eat horror, drink horror, watch horror, read horror.

And avoid HDC General Forum. :D

Haha! Oddly enough, that jingle has been stuck in my head all day.

I suppose if I was going to pitch the idea of horror to someone, I'd argue that horror can satisfy a part of them that nothing else can, really. It reaches into that part of us in which fear and pleasure are so closely linked, resides there, and therefore allows us to find pleasure in fear. It's for this reason, this outlook, that horror fans might be more able to make sense out of some of the fear that is so present in this world. It is also this outlook that unites horror fans everywhere, makes us into one body that's able to see the world a little differently than everyone else.

Hehe, that turned out to be quite melodramatic.

newb 10-20-2008 03:41 PM

yeah...and every time I see the title of this thread...that crappy song gets stuck in my head.

Were leaving together,
But still its farewell
And maybe well come back,
To earth, who can tell?
I guess there is no one to blame
Were leaving ground
Will things ever be the same again?

Its the final countdown...

I'm going to have a difficult time answering this without sounding incredibly melodramatic...

Optimism is pointless and unrealistic.

I find reality horrifying and, ironically, use horror movies as pure escapism. I fantasize about the zombie apocalypse.

What I find horrifying:
  • People (what we're capable of, what I'm capable of, what they're capable of - genocide, pedophilia, torture, misogyny, racism xenophobia, intolerance, violence, murder, rape, destruction, anger)
  • Ignorance (leads to the above)
  • Politics, failing economy, ozone layer, Wars, poverty, disease, hunger, megalomania, sociopathology.

THE HORRORS.

What an individual is capable of doing to another individual - Pure acts of evil, desecration, violation...

Evil is real. It's not some sort of super-natural God-made thing (or Devil-made thing or whatever Being that Some attribute Evil to). WE create Evil and we revel in it.

And, even MORE horrifying... Good can only come from US.

*shudder*

...

And on THAT cheery note, I think I'm going to go crawl back into my hole.

It doesn't help that Alex incorporated the song into one of his videos that the baby LOVES, so I have to HEAR it all day, too
