Longevity

With previous discussions of long-term members, I got to wondering just how long I've been a member here. So, I looked up my old screen name and......I've been a member here for almost 5 years! That kind of surprised me, I didn't think it was that long.

Is anyone else surprised at how long they've been a member here?

ferretchucker 10-17-2008 10:42 AM

I missed my two year anniversary. I think it was in late August.

5 years is pretty good!

hammerfan 10-17-2008 10:45 AM

Of course, since you mentioned August, I had to go back and look at what the exact date was: 11-09-2004, so almost 4 years, not 5. Still longer than I thought.

jenna26 10-17-2008 10:51 AM

About 3 and half years for me. I've been a member here longer than any other forum, or any forum that I still post regularly at anyway.

The same is true for me.

Posher778 10-17-2008 11:14 AM

Going on three years as of December. I can't believe how much i've changed. I used to be so.... friendly :p

just shy of 5 years. I think I am one of the longest-running non-mods here.

i have the post-count and the sense of self-righteousness to prove it :)

LOL, yes you do :)

Isn't it funny how time flies?

5 YEARS...I was here long before I even MET Dustin, and we will have been together 4 years this December...Isn't it crazy that most of you guys can remember when I didn't even KNOW him?

And Vod, consider how long you have been married...We remember when you were just engaged :)

Massacre Man has been here longer than the rest of us...He was here the month before me...He was just a wee pup then, now he's a grown up adult...We've watched Return and Ferret grow up, too...Isn't it something?

HA! I actually had your name in there, too, but editted it out because 15 - 18 isn't as much 'growing up' as the others :p

You know, thinking about the old days makes me miss Heather even more!

Vodstok 10-17-2008 12:04 PM

you people are only reinforcing my sense of entitlement.

I guess deleting my retard thread was to keep me humble?:D

Hmm...I haven't called her in about 4 months either, nor has she called me

Last time I talked to her, she was on a new path of self-discovery :)

When I replace my charger, I'll give her a call (all of my numbers are on my dead cell phone :/ )

Well, now you have me curious - what's she been up to? At least, from the last time you talked to her.

Papillon Noir 10-17-2008 12:07 PM

My goodness, it will be 2yrs in January! I'm very glad to have found this place and to have met all of you! I have enjoyed every minute of it!

It was actually here that I first learned about giallo. :D

Oh crap...Did I do THAT one?...Well, there goes my retarded Paris Hilton picture...IF I did that one (and I most likely did), it was an actual mistake:o

I think I won in that thread anyway :D

Uwe Boll took a close second :)

Just trying to better herself, get out of her parents' house, that sorta thing...I imagine she's been very busy putting it all together :)

I have learned SO much here, it's unreal...When I first came here, I thought I was a horror master, hell, I always beat everyone that I knew with horror trivia...BUT, Avenger schooled my ass HARDCORE, we had a daily on-going trivia contest...DAMN that Kentucky boy knows his horror, I should have challenged someone a little lower on the totem pole...lol...He really put me in my place

AND, my horror collection has grown EXPONENTIALLY since I've been here...I now have so many movies that I would have never even heard of if it weren't for the members here

Have I mentioned that I LOVE THE PEOPLE HERE?! :D

Mine has as well, and my "to be watched" pile just keeps getting higher and higher and higher.....;)

hammerfan 10-17-2008 12:19 PM

Same here, Rayne. My horror collection has really blossomed since I've been a member here. And I learned to appreciate Asian horror - never gave it a second thought before. And Dario Argento, and Lucio Fulci, and Mario Bava.....heck, I could go on all day.

I've had some rifts with people (one) here in the past, but for the most part I really like everyone here and couldn't imagine not being a part of it. Rayne, you probably remember that incident. You and I PMed for a while talking about it.

I did leave for a while when the trolls were at their worst - but BudMan brought me back via MySpace! :D

I'd like to make a suggestion to everyone who reads this thread: stop responding to the people that are pissing you off and you won't get pissed off anymore. Just don't reply......don't even read the thread. It's like they say about TV shows that get slammed by conservatives for language/sex/drugs, etc.: if you don't like the show, change the channel. Just don't read the thread.

Vodstok 10-17-2008 12:43 PM

here's the crazy part about me being here. Since I started here, I have:
Been engaged
Been Married
Had a child
had 5 onsite jobs and innumerable work from home contracts
written close to 10 short stories
Moved
Stopped talking to my family

and there's more, I just cant think of anything else right now.

And I remember when your daughter was born and how happy and proud you were. I think you were already married when I arrived here. And I remember the first story of yours that I read - and my menopausal brain is drawing a complete blank on the title.

Nella 10-17-2008 01:04 PM

When I came here, I didn't know what giallo meant. I haven't been here that long but I have learned a lot. I know what I can and can't watch. I haven't bought any movies but I never bought any of my favorites before coming here. I like slasher films and suspensful, scary stuff but I tried two foreign horror films mentioned here and added others to my list. I look forward to watching them. I hope everyone makes a list in Fester's top 100 films thread so I can learn more.

This may be a loaded question, but-how would a non-tech person get an on-line job?
Any sites I may be directed to?
I need a job , I do not have the time nor mindset to go to back to school.
I would love to be a stay at home mom and work on-line in some type of capacity (other than med. transcript.-ugh)

I have a limited amount of energy and it's all for my rugrats:D

I did search for on-line jobs for awhile and all I came up with was putting together crafts at home for very little money and of course all the scams:rolleyes:

The Flayed One 10-17-2008 08:16 PM

I'm getting close to 3 years. It is amazing how time flies. HDC has become a family to me. It's amazing to me how much this place has grown as a forum. I personally feel that we're MORE than just a forum now. Maybe I overstate this, but how many other forums have you been to that have so many projects, annual events, their own awards show, a radio station linked to them, actual semi-famous members. The list goes on.

Babies, younger members growing up and going to college, it's been a good long run and I don't plan on ending it any time soon. Hell, I'm on a first name bases with a few of you.

This is the first forum I've been on that I've met people who I actually consider friends. __V__, newb, Rayne, urge, Posh, Return, Rod, the list just goes on.

It's our own little dysfunctional home, and I love it here.

novakru 10-17-2008 08:21 PM

I just mentioned how just in the last week, things around here have gotten almost cozy between members.

After all this time though, I know nothing about V.
Not sure if he has posted anything personal, but he is one dude I would love to have lunch with.
Very smart man.
