From Great to Garbage in One Shot

The shit movie tournament made me go on a tangent ..

The Ring was a good movie .. a landmark in horror film history - it was well made and was the introduction for most folks to the world of asian horror cinema.

then #2 comes out ... and was complete garbage.

boggles the mind that someone can mess up something that good in one fell swoop.

I feel the same way about The Matrix.

what other films are there where you felt the origional was fantastic, and the sequel was incredibly bad ?

hammerfan 10-16-2008 05:14 AM

The Howling. The first one is one of my favorite movies, the second one made me cringe since Christopher Lee was in it, and the rest was pure shit.

bloodrayne 10-16-2008 05:15 AM

I really think that most sequels don't live up to their prececessors (like Cube and Hypercube), but I'm still trying to come up with one that was completely horrible attached to a really good original

Friday The Thirteenth came to mind...But, I can't really call part 2 'garbage'

Hmm...I'll give this some thought

crabapple 10-16-2008 05:19 AM

Empire Strikes Back: Worst, Sequel, Ever. was poop nuts :)

there's a difference between not living up to the 1st - and completely sucking off the charts.

i'm thinking about the ones that didnt just suffer from a weaker story or director - i'm talking about the ones that fell completely flat on their faces.

The Howling was a good example

Yeah, that's what I'm still trying to come up with

But, I like a lot of 'bad' horror movies, so I know I'm more lenient than others might be

The baby is playing some ridiculously annoying, noisy thing on his computer right next to me, making it kinda difficult to think, too...I'll come up with something, though.

lol, that picture made me say "aww" out loud :D

Okay, if anyone liked Toxic Avenger, part 2 was total crap

But...Most people probably don't like Toxie to begin with, and if they do, they might also like part 2

So...Probably not a very good example

I'll keep trying :)

I really like Toxie (well, not so much now as I did 20 years ago, I'll admit that)...But, part 2 was extremely disappointing,
almost like an insult to the original (and that's from someone who likes movies that most people think are
terrible)...Those are my thoughts on it

As I have been trying to come up with a good answer here, but so far I'm just having a really hard time considering
any sequels to be total garbage (that is, sequels to really good movies)

The Amityvilles became increasingly goofy as they progressed...It was like they ran out of ideas but didn't
want to stop making the movies

cactus 10-16-2008 06:15 AM

Highlander 2...

Nah, i'm sure richard burton would hang with you and... Oh right, he's dead...

Spider man 3. The first was awesome, and probably planted the seed that eventually grew into the marvel studios movies that have come out. The second was pretty good too, but already the MJ thing was wearing thin, then 3...

I actually got uncomfortable in the theater watching it. Some of the action was pretty good, but venom wasnt (and I really wanted to like topher), and the "evil peter" just made me cringe. i covered my face and watched through my fingers when he danced... I cant remember the last tiem I was so embarresed for someone...

I like Lake Placid as well, pretty much for the same reason. I haven't seen the sequel yet (I'm sure I will get to it eventually, I ALWAYS do).

I thought Jurassic Park 3 was pretty weak, though I liked the first two.
Oh and also, the sequels to The Crow.

DraculaInDallas 10-16-2008 07:23 PM

Jaws 2, & 3 all sucked as well as all of the Highlander sequels

Elvis_Christ 10-16-2008 07:38 PM

Freeway
Xtro
House
(but I really like the 3rd film)
