Which did you prefer, Land of the Dead or Diary of the Dead?

I just watched Diary of the Dead last night and i thought that it was better than Land of the Dead, what are your thoughts on this movie?
i tried to do a search on this movie, but it doesn't seem to be working for me.

No question,I prefer Land over Diary.I had such high hopes for Diary and was utterly disappointed with it.Its probably my least favorite of Romero's zombie movies.

urgeok2 10-12-2008 01:57 PM

diary by far.

I'm with Urge on this one.

A couple of annoying characters aside Diary is a solid flick and I really like how the script is a return to form for Romero. It reminded me of The Crazies. I still enjoyed Land but it was a bit of mess with a pretty weak social commentary... sure Diary beats you over the head with its ideology but at least it digs deeper and provokes more thought.

Hopefully he'll make everyone eat their words and top Day Of The Dead one day. But truth be told I'd rather see him put out something amazing along the lines Martin instead.

I enjoyed Land of the Dead much more. The first person camera in Diary of the Dead was disappointing to what I originally expected it would be. The characters added music and sound effects to it which kinda ruined it for me. I mean, why? I thought it was just unnecessary. [Rec] was much scarier without music because it almost felt real to me. Land of the Dead was just a better film to me, and I think if Diary would not have been first person it would have been much more enjoyable.

[REC] is a totally different kinda film. The FPC in Dairy was used more to illustrate the disection of the social themes (life in the digital age. etc) in the film.

I see what your saying, but thats another thing I disliked about it. I saw it expecting something more like rec. I thought it was too obvious that when a character picked up another camera Romero just wanted another angle to shoot from. I cant really explain what I didnt like about it well enough I guess. But the bottom line is I liked Land of the Dead better.

Diary, primarily because of the casting of Land - Dennis Hopper, Simon Baker and John Leguizamo are all just plain awful in this film (and in general) Asia is the only bright spot

Elvis_Christ 10-12-2008 05:21 PM

Dennis Hopper was great in Hell Ride but I see whatcha gettin' at. River's Edge was the last really good performance I remember.

Diary

Land of the Dead was terrible.

Diary Of The Dead was miles ahead of Land Of The Dead, in my opinion.

jugchord 10-13-2008 04:06 PM

Diary for sure, I hated Land of the Dead

Hilti88NYC 10-16-2008 09:22 AM

I guess Diary, just or the fact that the FX in Land were horrendous. Also,I didnt like John Leguizamo in the film.

BASSI 08-20-2009 10:01 AM

I Hated Land of the dead but is been growing on me a lot but Diary Of The Dead should change to Diary Of The dull and did not like it

The Mothman 08-25-2009 11:22 AM

I thought Diary was a good entertaining flick, im not sure why it catches so much shit, Land was horrible, i didn't even finish it.

Despare 08-25-2009 12:18 PM

Diary was great, Land was a fun zombie flick and one of the better films in the genre even if it didn't live up to Romero's high standards.

Posher778 08-25-2009 01:50 PM

I liked both films, but neither were anything that inventive or spectacular. Diary was fairly boring and Land was just sloppy. Romero has yet to top NotLD.

fuglystick 08-25-2009 01:59 PM

I thought Diary was a better film, but I liked Land as well.

Lowrie Productions 09-08-2009 08:38 AM

i liked the gore in Land and the story was not bad in Diary, liked the idea of taking it back to the night that everything all started

wufongtan. 09-15-2009 02:14 PM

Land of the dead was far better. Can't stand the whole blair witch style thing. sure it was cool when they did it. for the first time i saw it. then i couldn't but think how retarded they were. Sure use the camera cause it had a light on it But why why stick the camera in your face with its blinding light, then complain about not being able to see anything. But who would when being stalked/ chased would you run around with a camera? I'm sorry but its just too unbelievable. . Besides it was the first time in zombie movie history that the zombies actually provided a better acting performance than the living.

I will definitely agree with this. I enjoyed both but Land was a bit painful due to the casting. I haven't liked Leguizamo in particular in anything he's done.

I agree with this. Both were watchable but Diary certainly edged it as the better film.

Yeah, he pretty much sucks. The only part he's done that stands out for me is Summer Of Sam.

Ferox13 09-24-2009 11:25 PM

Ahh he was great as Spider Mike in SPUN..

Benny Blanco from the Bronx was cool too - he wasn't bad in The Kill Point either though the mini-series itself was a bit drwan out.

Touché.... But he's still mediocre at best.

Have we forgotten John L. as The Violator in Spawn? He did great things for that character...
